Paddy Power Gold Cup

agree with grassy. running simonsig in this isn't NJH's style. personally i'd like to see him up against cue card in the haldon gold cup.

Entries out. Finian's Rainbow highest rated @ 163. Different connections but I wonder if Nicky can persuade Buckley to run him so Rajdhani Express (155) and Kid Cassidy (150) get handy racing weights.

I'd have to consider this one of the least compelling list of entries for this race in years.

Hamm, not sure Long Run (and others) compare well with Simonsig, insofar as the PPGC as a target is concerned.

Henderson didn't really know where he stood with Long Run when he ran in the race, because it was coming off the back of defeat in the RSA Chase (and he was of course beaten again in the PPGC itself).

Henderson knows exactly where he stands with Simonsig (or he did, pre-injury) and other targets would be more logical, in terms of where he might send him. IMHO.

Youre right Nick , there's not much to get excited about, infact I'm finding it hard to get going this season, maybe watching First Lieutenant sluice home @ Downroyal on Saturday will light the fire.

but isn't this what many people expect nowadays to prove you are an exceptional horse..i've read it here lots.."well i know its won 12 Grade 1's..but its never given weight in a handicap"

i personally don't understand the obsession with wanting a top horse to give a lot of weight away..if its a good weight carrier like Denman then it tells you very little..except ...its a good weight carrier

The point is that in some cases , this is the only way to know how good is

This year we have sprinter Sacre , with a hcp like the Víctor chandler we could have a better idea of how good this horse is.

Not too many of the higher weighted animals appeal. I think Walkon has a shot if the ground is soft enough and Kid Cassidy as well.

Captain Conan for me, won at this meeting last year, and fancy him to lead from the front and have to much speed for the rest of the field.

Hanlon reported: "Hidden Cyclone definitely runs in the Paddy Power Gold Cup. His preparation is going well and he will do one more bit of work tomorrow.

"He had a racecourse gallop at Fairyhouse and that all went to plan, so we are happy with him.

"I was very happy with his run at Listowel. A lot of my horses were very sick last year, but I think they are over that now because I have a lot of point-to-pointers and they are winning every week, so I think they are back to form.

"It looks like it is going to be a very good race with tough opposition, but we will have a go.

"I don't have any concerns about his jumping. In my opinion, they don't go fast enough for him and obviously that won't happen in Cheltenham. The faster they go, the better he will jump.

"The uphill finish at Cheltenham will suit and hopefully he is on a nice mark, so we will see how he gets on."

I cant see Champion Court out of the places. Likely to run into 1 or 2 better handicapped horses though. I'll be having a good place bet on CC.
