Your scenario makes no sense. No one in the EU, not the Council, the Commission, the Parliament nor even the dreaded Court of Justice has the right to tell a Member State to limit its spending on social welfare as a proportion of GNP. They just can't, they don't have the power to do such a thing.

Another case of not letting the facts get in the way of one`s views. Also, I see another of Corbyn`s "loony" ideas ( the aspiration of a 4 day week) has been supported in a study published today. Affordable and reasonable is it`s conclusion. Perhaps our new found increased sovereignty will pave the way for this. On the other hand, I can`t see the likes of Rees-Mogg and co wanting us going down that path somehow!!

You can see social security comes under that, (loud exhale of breath) I was then merely using the example I stated as a purely hypothetical example of the UK wanting to move further left but a more right wing eu preventing that.
The crux of it being would remainers still vote remain if the UK gov moved generally left under a socialist government but at the same time the EU had moved generally right then prevents it from doing so on key policies because the UK would have to operate within the bounds of EU legislation and would have no veto on all the areas covered by QMV.
If people want precise manifestos and policies on each side then they're being rather obtuse and missing the point
I've only had one so far with the stones to answer and I can at least respect his commitment to his views.

Fortunately, common sense has prevailed, and we'll no longer be subject to laws designed by outside jurisdictions.

A historic day, today. The EU have agreed the Brexit deal, both our Parliaments look odds-on to ratify, and the AstraZeneca Vaccine has finally been approved.

Never say never to anything but it's looking like the Tories have had big sh&t, and had to step off it, on the chances of the middle class socialist wokest party getting in next time.
And it's they're still all just packing plastic pants and a trademark when it comes to answering my question. :lol:
