Punchestown Festival 2017

Very glad I downed betting tools after Outlander pulled up the other day. I love watching this Festival but it's a massive no no from a punting perspective. I'd have been destroyed today if i'd tucked in.

had 2 bets all week. labaik on tuesday with victors money back concession and great field yesterday. i have the same viewpoint with aintree as well. it's almost entirely a watching brief.

Been a crazy week and yesterday no exception..I do a 3 x doubles and a treble BOG first 2 hose up and the next one on paper looks a good thing until it drifts from 3 out to 8.44 finishes a well beaten 2nd and does me for thousands..then to top it off Mullins decides to win everything with his unfancied horses...........taking me right back to square one for the week :( in the end Hammersly Lake put me back on top so Nicky saves the bacon yet again.

So I am sticking to the genius that is NJH today at Sandown bar one bet at Punchy

All say he should win with Altior but he won't be carrying my cash..not against Special Tiara who if gets into a rhythm will tale Altior places he has never been before...........Def a no bet race.

The horse I really fancy is none other than rent-a-dog as some call him L'ami Serge.......Forget Ayr this is the race they want.

Daryl barely touched the horse at Ayr. When it was obvious 2 out the weight concession was going to be too much he just nudged away.

Unlike Ayr which looked very much like a win if you can day he'll be off for his life today and the New One will struggle to give him 8lbs.

I've backed him EW 1-2 at 8.5 BOG

Neither The Young Master nor Sugar Baron got very far in their nationals. Having a small ew on each for an interest in what looks a real puzzle.

No less a puzzle than the Oaksey and why Traffic Fluide is so short....Menorah will win this.....simple as.

The Punch nap today is simply Apple Jade kitchen sink and all.....The Mullins could be anything brigade are out to upset her but fook them.......Gordon Elliot needs this race and there will be no messing about...............they won't see the way she went,,,,,,,grab all the evens you can

Great coverage from RTE, which I've never come across before. And HD as well.

I wasn't really in the Finian's Oscar fan club until yesterday, he wasn't that impressive at Aintree imo. However the way he scooted clear (Robbie looked like he went a bit too soon, maybe over confident) had the hallmarks of a top class beast. The momentum killing jump at the last lost him the race though.

A great shame Finians landed on all fours over the last. Been a frustrating week with Penhill, Nichols, MTOY, and this one. Still decent winners with Fox Norton and Sizing John have recovered some ground although I'd have preferred Djakadam as had him in a tasty double with Fayonagh.
Can't understand why Bapaume is jolly over Mega Fortune today and will double the latter with Apple's Jade

I'm a little taken aback how many horses are being turned out multiple times within a month on both sides of the Irish Sea. We go 5 months of the NH season with small fields every Saturday and trainers withdrawing them last minute for a plethora of reasons but when there's a trainers title on the line all that goes out of the window.

Every effort is made within the sport to promote the lengths they go to in the name of animal welfare yet the actions of some trainers in the last few weeks gives the impression that greed comes above all that. Fine, if the animal can take it's racing but don't spout all this **** through the rest of the season why they're not running.

Part of the problem is the way the NH season is so weighted towards March & April and that needs addressing but it leaves a sour taste in the mouth when you see Runfordave dying in front of your eyes purely because the trainer is desperately chasing prize money.

Theinval a case in point. Cheltenham, Aintree, Ayr last Friday, Ayr last Saturday, Sandown today.

Much as I wanted Gordon Elliott to win the trainer's title, you have to hand it to WPM, winning the title after losing 60 of the Gigginstown horses is some feat. Love to be a fly on the wall at Gigginstown HQ when they have their end of season discussions what with this and thirteen horses in the Irish National with none of them in the first three.

it makes one wonder whether winners and win prizemoney only should be used when deciding championships.
When you have the situation like the mares' hurdle today where Elliott's win and sixth prize were worth just 20k when WPM fillies filled 2,3,4 and 5 places.
I would like to see the win only prize money comparison; the Championship should be decided on first place winnings rather than sheer numbers.
That cuts both ways i realise but it might make for a fairer result.
Winning is the name of the game after all.
fair dues to all as third, fourth and fifth placed Irish trainers never had it so good either in terms of winners or prizemoney won.

P.S, Having just read Irish Field I see Gordon Elliott had 400,000 plus more place money than WPM so Willie would have been a more clear cut winner on this basis.

And he also lost Vautour and, in essence, Faugheen and Annie.

“It is completely up to Willie Mullins. Our door is always open. It was Willie’s call to let go of the horses and it’s Willie’s call if he wants them back,” he said (Michael O'Leary)
“There is no problem and we have no issue. We have always left the door open and it’s still open.”

I posted up Menorah, Apple Jade and L,Ami Serge which if anyone is interested is what this game is all about...........Fook wpm when's the last time he pinpointed a winner?

God you're amazing Tanlic. Three short priced winners, how do you do it? Not sure what purpose this post serves other than to publicly bolster an already over inflated ego. Let me know when your winners recoup what must have been colossal losses suffered by putting half the Cheltenham fund on a Altior/Douvan double and dutching Melon & Labaik at Punchestown.

Having a discussion about the sport without a betting angle is quite commonplace on here and they certainly don't deserve to be interrupted by moronic posts such as yours.

Yes really excellent read - Thanks Grey

Benny you really should get over there and it can actually be done from the UK cheaper than a Club ticket for Cheltenham Gold Cup day!

return flights from Birmingham under £40
days car hire £17 (brand new mini clubman!)
free on course parking
reserved enclosure entry, race card and a free €5 bet for €25 thanks to Pigsback/Edgt

Highly recommended and will be doing two days in 2018
