Road to the 2000 Guineas

My figure for Frankel's time on Saturday is 134. It includes WFA. From memory, my best figure for a Guineas winner in recent years was Haafhd's 129 in 2004.

Thats interesting Gus - i didn't get a massive figure for Haafhd..decent 118..without wfa. Moayed and to a lesser degree Promotion's race held the figure down i thought.

Using the same scale i work to now these are the better guineas figures..
an old one first..

Zafonic - 129

2000 - Kings Best 119
2001 - Cockney Rebel 125
2008 - Henrythenavigator 118

131 is a big figure for Frankel..considering how he ran the race..worth more

Thinking about it, I also had a big figure for Cockney Rebel. Possibly a 129, in fact.

The other one that sticks in my memory is Celtic Swing in the Racing Post Trophy - either 132 or 134.

I can't wait for Frankel to run against Goldokova Gus..I think F should be a decent price because many will underrate his guineas performance...only beat Dubai by 6 etc

I personally think Frankel would beat G & CC by at least 3 lengths..maybe more.

I don't think Frankel will turn out to be a miler. If he comes up against Canford Cliffs or Goldikova, in the form she used to show, I think he'll be vulnerable.

They've shown him off in the Guineas, but you can't run thoroughbreds wire-to-wire like that every time they appear. It'll kill him.

I'd be surprised if Goldikova is as good this year and the only race I can see CC and Frankel clashing over a mile is the Sussex, where I think the WFA scale is a tad slanted in favour of 3yos. So I wouldn't back Hannon's against him there.

The bottom line for me though is Flat racing badly needed a Frankel to turn up this year. From about August last year I was pining for the Jumps.

where do you get the idea they will ever wire to wire him again though Steve?

and if they do wire to wire him with just a slight restraint early he can better his 2000 guineas run..don't forget he ran 5f pace in the guineas and still won..do you think CC or G have that type of petrol?..because if they do they haven't displayed it yet..they look like very good milers..he looks like a freak of nature

i think you have said it right...shown him off..next time will be different i think..Cecil is a very clever chap

no one actually knows what way he will be asked to run next time do they really?

the only problem i have with F sticking to a mile is a string of non events unfolding where we never see his true potential displayed due to no really decent horses turning up to lose to him

You see I agree with you that he is unlikely to be run like this again. However, this is precisely the argument that people are offering for not running him in the Derby (that he cannot be run any other way).

I believe there is more than one string to Frankel’s bow.

Secretariat's Belmont win is the best performance by a racehorse I've ever seen.

Frankel's got a way to go to equal Secretariat but there are definitely similarities.

Is that true? Bloody hell..... That's nearly impossible surely... Frankel only managed 12 secons per furlong in the guineas!!!

What was his best 12f time?
