Road to the Champion Chase 2011

let's face it, Grassy and granger would want him to have beaten Voy Por Ustedes at least two and a half miles in the Champion to admit that form is within an arses roar of that Tingle Creek.

But these debates are good fun on a winters day.

 "good fun"!!! ...I suppose so.

Yes, in fairness you are much closer to understanding the horses ability than Ruby or Nichols could ever be

If you genuinely believe this clivex, you would be as well exchanging your form-book for a copy of the Beano. It should prove to be an interesting diversion in between checks of Nicholls' Betfair column, and the preparation for your Saturday Goliath.

Top fun as always, tracks - and all posts hopefully taken in the jocular way intended, one hopes.

Except for those directed at clivex - he's an utter poon. :D

I was going to say that that's quite sweet, as a 'poon' or 'poen' is 'pony' in Afrikaans. I thought I'd look it up anyway on Google, and do you know what?

It's a type of Indian tree!

(When it isn't linked with 'tang', as in poon tang, which is Korean for a fast prostitute - presumably those which can take care of you very quickly, should you be late for a meeting. I shall be tempted to shout 'you ******* poon!' at slow toy cars and caravans from now on. A nice little word.)

What I like about the whole Moscow v Master Minded debate is that - at the time - there was actually some [like suny..sorry mate!] ..who argued that Azerty was the superior 2 miler of that generation! Imagine! So, whatever about the whole MM thing, it's actually great that in hindsight, it is clear - and really goes without saying - that MF was the resounding winner of the MF v Azerty debate..

:)

I remember mentioning it before the Queen Mother last year - Master Minded has disappointed a couple of times when there has not been that much cut in the ground or at least he certainly has not really proved himself on a faster surface. On the two occasions when he has raced on Good ground he has lost.

I remember waking up the morning of that Tingle Creek and thinking it was the bet of the century

He was absolutely sensational that day - I remember dropping into a bookies in Mallow and the place was going spare as he cleared the last - the roof was nearly lifted off the place and only a few had backed him!! Savage lad!! Master Minded couldn't hold his coat!

Agree with Euro.

Master Minded this season looks different to the one I watched back in March. Much more zip about him. I could watch him jump fences all day. I would expect him to be able to comfortably take care of the likes of Forpady and Kalahari King if he were anywhere near his best, which to me he wasn't at the Festival.

I do like Big Zeb. But I think MM will regain his crown.

On form lines through Gauvain, Forpady and Kalahari King that plainly is not the case.

That's if you read form literally, which I don't. Gauvain beat Forpady on Good to Soft last time out at Cheltenham, Forpady is horse that needs Good ground, Gauvain looks like he prefers soft ground. I think Master Minded looked mightily impressive yesterday, but the horses out in front went a suicidal pace in front, as they got tired MM picked them up as he liked, beating Petit Robin by 8 lengths is not bullet proof form IMO.

If you go back through Master Minded's form, all of his wins have a going of soft in the description, if the going is good at Cheltenham, I cannot see him getting past Big Zeb.

Forpady doesn't need good ground. He was a cracking second to Cooldine in the Moriarty on soft. I don't think he was at the top of his game the other week but the race yesterday has a far more solid look to it than the last QM.

It wasn't a suicidal pace, in fact the other jocks gave them too much rope and MM is actually better than the bare result suggests. I also think it's wrong to be too dogmatic about the likely ground conditions come March. Our weather seems to be changing every year, this is the coldest first part of December I can remember and a wet spring would not be a big surprise.
