Sea The Stars - Retirement Announced

It's a worry and stops me topping up. Suave Dancer won both races, but he won the Irish by about fifty lengths I seem to remember.

I'm not worried by Fame taking in the Irish Champion on his way to the Arc. A strong run competitive race might just as easily bring him on to his peak. He hasn't had a hard time of it this season. Even when beaten in the Derby he didn't have a hard race. He ran the best race of his career next time out and is clearly at or near his peak. It could be argued that STS has had a more gruelling time of it. I'm also not overly concerned about him running to near his best at 10 furlong, despite looking made for something like the St Leger. It looks like he has a wide distance range to me. The thing he needs is something forcing the pace which allows the full expression of his considerable strengths.

I see Casual Conquest is entered at Leopardstown and The Curragh this weekend. Granted I do not think he would win, but no point aiming him at the Group races in Ireland when there is a Group 1 at York the following week over his ideal trip and on a surface unlikely to be too firm.

Not very ambitious, but maybe Group 2 is his level. I know he won the Tattershalls but his run in the Meld Stakes wouldn't have encouraged many that he would beat Tartan Bearer at York, never mind Sea the Stars and Mastercraftsman. Having said that I couldn't see Coolmore campaigning a Group 1 winner in lesser races when there is a Group 1 alternative.

I need Casual Conquest to start winning one or two more, as he's one of my 'edge' horses in the TTF.

I'm not too concerned about his performance last time out as we were warned he'd need it. He's better judged on his Group 1 win before that when Beating subsequent winner Famous Name.

We'll see, but I don't think Sea The Stars is value at 10-11 because I think he'll lose.

I'll be like one of those annoying betfair bots and stick my £2 in front of Shadow Leader and Irish Stamp for 5/6.

Oxx has (rather predictably) issued a warning about STS’s participation at York (going dependent). He has also said that he is not ruling out the Arc itself (presumbably only if it’s good to firm and the stamina horses don’t turn up).
