Speaking at 2.p.m O'Brien said: "We were happy with the bit Starspangledbanner did this morning and it looks like he will be going to Haydock although we will check him out in the morning before a final decision is made. If he goes then Colm O'Donoghue will probably ride."

I would have preferred to see them bypass the Nunthorpe with SSB and go for this. He is holding his form remarkably well considering the travelling and the season he just had in Australia but he surely cannot keep on the go.

Genki should be 14s for Haydock Sprint Cup tops. 20s is a knocking bet in a race that is wide open. He's certainly better than Markab who is 8 points shorter on Betfair.

Terrific run .Watching it hard to believe it is 30 years since Moorestyle won the race .

In those days Haydock did not have a six furlong straight track and they came off a chute . Moorestyle won in a canter as I remember .

"As you remember... "? You'd have been about 6 at the time, Arders! Anyone would think you were the Deuteronomy of the forum!

I loved Moorestyle - winner of the Free Hcap, July Cup, Sprint Cup , Abbaye,Challenge and Foret as well as second in the Poulains and in the Maurice du Gheest when he had to give weight to four year olds !

Was he not the last horse who did not win a classic to be horse of the year ? Or did Lochsong win that too ?

Fleeting Spirit has been retired, a great mare who didn't win the races she should have done due to her moronic campaining by connections imo.

Overdose also unlikely to run in the Abbaye, surprise surprise!

She did pretty well, winning the July Cup and the Temple Stakes. I don't think she did too badly for a horse that started 15 times. If you want to know mismanaged, look no futher than the bonny little mare here in Australia that raced by the named of Our Egyptian Raine. Her owners were found to be suffering "financial difficulties." They had debts sky high with bookies, trainers left unpaid. The horses were owned in receivership before they were sold at public auction. It also led the principal of the syndicate to being barred from all race courses. It probably explained the reason why she raced in about every Group 1 race on the Australian East Coast one year. Somehow she managed to earn $1.6 million, and placed either 2nd, 3rd or 4th in 12 Group 1 races. She was definitely one of those animals that was a "What could have been" case. There was no doubt she would never accomplish the same feats as Sunline or makybe Diva, but I don't doubt if she had of been placed accordingly, she would have won at least 4 or 5 Group 1 race, and well over $3 million, rather than what she did. Hell what she did was amazing. Sorry my pet peeve of all time is the mismanagement of that animal.

I also reckon that Overdose is going to be another "What could have been story." Fingers crossed he will get that elusive Group 1 win. But I am not holding my breath with him. Next thing he will probably be racing in Slovakia again.

Another old favourite of Hamm's :D, Overdose bolted up in Berlin todat, breaking the course record by 3 seconds!!! Next stop, the Temple Stakes...

We've heard this before however!

Monsieur Chevalier is entered in the Greenland Stakes - would be nice to see him back to form after his pelvic injury.
