The 2011 2-y-o thread.

Jockey went got a gap that wasn't quite there. Nearly clipped the rail and could have come down. A bit scary.

Strange race all around - Power looks bloody huge and appeared to be running on the spot in the last furlong. Maybe gave the winner 3lbs and a beating last time out...

Gave it 9lb if you include the overweight and that Joesph O'Brien could not clain 3lb....

I'm not saying you should. I'm merely pointing out he is a 3lb claimer who did 3lb overweight in a Group race. I heard a quote second hand that Joesph said he could win on her that day doing 10st. The point is she is a seriously good filly and the formbook does do her complete justice.

Maybe was really impressive today. As I said earlier, the form of the Chesham hadn't stood up and she was merely workmanlike last time out but now we know how good La Collina is. I'd still favour Discourse for the Guineas, though, based on her time yesterday which was right out of the top drawer.

It certainly seems to be a vintage year as far as juvenile fillies are concerned.

What people did not factor in on Maybe last run was the confidece behind her. KP said in the RP the day after that he really fancied La Collina but backed her without. When you consider that and that she gave La Collina 6lbs it was a hell of run. People expect there O'Brien horses to win by miles. The 2yo on that card had everyone purring but the form of the race was dirt.

I liked Discourse but if she gets on a plane to Dubai ( rather than staying here like Blue Bunting )expect to see her reappear in a listed race in July !

There hadn't been anything among the juvenile colts to capture the imagination but Top Offer looked a really nice prospect at Newbury today. His trainer wouldn't be one for talking them up but he clearly holds this one in high regard.

The form of the maiden won by Fallen For You was given a substantial boost when the runner-up ran away with a Doncaster maiden on Saturday.

There were a number of interesting two-year-old races on Saturday. The world and his wife could see that Dreamwriter was hugely impressive at Newbury but for betting purposes I thought Pimpernel's win under top weight in a Newmarket nursery was more significant. She won only narrowly but it was an excellent time and she's well up to Listed and Group company on my figures.

DISCOURSE.
I've already backed this for next years 1000 guineas i sent it out straight away as i thought it may get backed we got 10s and the very next day was 8s,not something i normally do but it did have the fastest time from all the 2yr olds so far and is bred for further, the one negative is that not much has gone on to progress from the pedigree but thats the risk you take having an ante post bet. You'll probably never see me have another one as i rarely do them and if it comes out wins again will dramatically shorten and you may be able to lay off at some point for a nice profit if you choose. The reason i sent it out was it the way it won, looked good for another 6/7ls and looking at captain ramius winning off 94 earlier on the card discourse was .80 quicker and as i mentioned before looked 6/7 ls better than that would put her nearer 115+ with even more improvement to come after only two races. The most impressive performance by some way this season so far

Been too busy to follow the Deauville programme this Summer unfortunately but the performance of Dabirsim today in the Morny has to be up there with two year old performances of the year.

Only cost 30k as a yearling too and his young trainer could be one to watch from outside of the Chantilly bubble.

Not sure about that theory, kjansch: first, he's owned by a Jewish man (and buying from a Jew, no matter how well placed in society, would be sternly considered by many Arabs as a major faux pas, especially the ruler of Dubai - don't forget Israelis have been near enough assassinating a leading Arab with connections to Palestinian pressure groups), and then Mr Springer has named the horse with the starts of his son's, his wife's and his own name: DAvid, BIRgit, SIMon. When you've personalised a horse with your family that much, and it's just racked up four straight wins for you, you may not feel that money always means everything.

I would say that the Sheikh's political sensitivity towards Jewish-Arab relations, plus perhaps the Springers feeling there's an emotional tie to the family, would see the horse stay at home.

But that's just my best guess. I'm sure God would love to have him - now, if Simon Springer were to just happen to sell him to someone who wasn't an Arab or a Jew, who then sold him on to God, that'd be a different, diplomatic, story... ;)

Interesting runner in the first at Beverley today. REALLY LOVELY, trained by Jeremy Noseda, who doesn't have many runners at this track but has a 50% strike rate overall.

REALLY LOVELY is nicely bred by Gallileo out of the Danehill mare Simply Perfect, her first foal. Simply Perfect won the Meon Valley Stud Mile at Ascot as a 2-y-o and the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes as a 3-y-o.

She made her debut at Newmarket at the end of July and despite running green she was keeping on at the death. She did look a touch on the small side, which, so I've read, isn't unusual with a first foal.

5/2 available at the moment.

Perfect herself is a very neat mare so it's not surprising Love is small, although she was an early January foal so she doesn't have that excuse.

Redact, a horse I was impressed with earlier in the season runs in the Ripon 2yo Trophy today and looks to have a solid chance.

Lyric of Light, Hamm's favourite horse;), gets a 10/1 quote from Coral's for the 1000 Guineas.

Anyone know what price the Fallon horse touched 'in-running' in this race?
