The 2015 2-y-o thread.

At least some more action in the FSS championship. First of all Arab Poet 8/11f won his race by 2 1/2 lengths for the Stoute/Moore combination thus giving Poet's Voice win number 20 to level up with Lilbourne Lad who is on 20 wins, too. Half an hour later Von Blucher 5/4f won his race by 1 1/2 lengths for the Gosden/Moore combination to put Zoffany onto 34 wins for the season. It's difficult to see Canford Cliffs fighting back from here as he has a current deficit of 4 wins and a maximum of 8 flat racing days left should he have runners every day from Thursday onwards.

Today there are some more FSS runnners by Lilbourne Lad and Poet's Voice who battle out third place in the championship whilst tomorrow there are 6 top5-FSS runners of which 3 are Zoffany's and none are by Canford Cliffs.

BennyB, it's time to collect your winnings pretty soon now!

And another one for Poet's Voive today when the 14/1 winner Electra Voice was on top by a short head. Poet's Voice has now passed Lilbourne Lad and is in third place with 21 wins.

As mentioned 3 FSS-wins yesterday (two for Poet's Voice and one for Zoffany). Standings by wins are Zoffany (34), Canford Cliffs (30), Poet's Voice (21), Lilbourne Lad (20) and Dream Ahead (17). So it looks the decision is more or less over and the only fight remaining is for third place between Poet's Voice and Lilbourne Lad.

Today there are 5 2-y-o races in the UK & IRL - Dundalk (2) and Nottingham (3) - today's top5-FSS runners are:

Dundalk
7.05 Zoffany Lord Justice 13/2 & Gainmill Girl 14/1

Nottingham
1.20 Zoffany Zoffany's Pride 18/1, Poet's Voice Raasmaal 8/1 & Four Poets 14/1
1.50 Lilbourne Lad Custom 15/8f

No Canford Cliffs' runners today and the three Zoffany runners are not the best of chances either so it's likely today remains unchanged at the top.

Countdown to the final raceday for the FSS championship 2015 on November 7th: 9 days of flat racing in the UK and Ireland including today.

Current standing: Zoffany 34 - 30 Canford Cliffs

Enjoy!

Sorry for the late update - was busy and did not quite expect this result:

I think today Zoffany finally sealed his FSS championship when Zoffany's Pride 8/1 ran out a convincing winner by 4 1/2 lengths to give Zoffany a lead by 5 wins over Canford Cliffs with just 8 days of flat racing left in the UK & Ireland (Zoffany also has 2 remaining runners tonight at Dundalk).

In racing nothing seems impossible but for Canford Cliffs to come back in the hunt would be some achievement in such a short period - I don't think he stands a chance.

In fact it's more likely for Zoffany with his current 35 wins to equal or even better Zebedee's record number of 36 wins in 2014.

I think he's got a good chance for this in 8 days racing - so hail the new champion Zoffany.

.

As mentioned Zoffany had his 35th winner for the season and another FSS win yesterday was for Roderic O'Connor giving him a total of 11 for the season. Unfortunately, there seems to be a new issue on the Racingpost bloodstock section as results from yesterday are not incorporated regarding wins or runs by FSS progeny.

Today there are 5 2-y-o races in the UK & IRL - Chelmsford (2) and Lingfield (3) - today's top5-FSS runners are:

Chelmsford
4.40 Lilbourne Lad Planetaria 9/2, Dream Ahead Silent Dreamer 14/1

Lingfield
1.20 Canford Cliffs Cliffmeena 50/1

There's no Zoffany runner today whilst Canford Cliff has just one 50/1 runner so chances for him are very remote to catch up today. Already had a brief look at tomorrow's cards and this is not encouraging either as both top2-FSS have no runners in the UK whilst there are a number of Zoffany's entered in Dundalk against just one by Canford Cliffs. These cards are not yet final, though. In summary it looks the next 2 days will hardly see a chance for Canford Cliffs to reduce the 5 wins deficit. And afterwards it's just 6 days of flat racing left that counts for the championship as coming Sunday and Monday there is no flat racing in the UK & Ireland.

Countdown to the final raceday for the FSS championship 2015 on November 7th: 8 days of flat racing in the UK and Ireland including today.

Current standing: Zoffany 35 - 30 Canford Cliffs

No FSS winners yesterday - meanwhile, yesterday's issue in the Racing Post bloodstock section is fixed and Wednesday's winners by Zoffany and Roderic O'Connor are correctly reflected in the FSS wins as 35 and 11 wins.

Today there are 7 2-y-o races in the UK & IRL - Dundalk (2), Newmarket (3) and Wolverhampton (2) - today's top5-FSS runners are:

Dundalk
5.50 Zoffany Zig Zag 4/1
6.20 Zoffany Oscar Dominguez 14/1 & Spirit Of Time 20/1, Canford Cliffs Landsman 12/1

Newmarket
12.25 Lilbourne Lad Grapevine 16/1

Wolverhampton
5.10 Dream Ahead Dream Dreamer 10/1

The best chance of a FSS win today probably rests with Zoffany's as he has ZIg Zag 4/1 entered at Dundalk whilst Canford Cliffs has a 12/1 shot also at Dundalk together with two more Zoffany's at 14/1 and 20/1. So there won't be any dramatic change to the number of wins by the top2-FSS and with another day gone by Canford Cliffs' chances are running out fast. In contrast, the next Zoffany win - may be Zig Zag today - will equal Zebedee's record number of 36 FSS wins last season.

Countdown to the final raceday for the FSS championship 2015 on November 7th: 7 days of flat racing in the UK and Ireland including today.

Current standing: Zoffany 35 - 30 Canford Cliffs

Enjoy!

Just the two of interest to me today.

Newmarket 12.25
CURRICULUM (14/1) is a New Approach newcomer who is a half-brother to Enticing (RPR 115) the winner of the Group 3 King George Stakes at Goodwood in 2008. Sire and trainer stats for debutants are OK.

Wolverhampton 7.10
WALL OF LIGHT (12/1), who was clueless on debut at Newmarket last month, is a half-sister to The Cheka (RPR 113), he won on debut as a 2-y-o and went on to win the Group 3 John Of Gaunt Stakes over 7f. as a 5-y-o.

Here's the list of the top5-FSS runners for Saturday (the odds are the forecast odds of the Sporting Life racecard by race and thus may not be as accurate as the odds posted in the morning of a raceday):

Saturday - a total of 7 2-y-o races in UK & IRL - Newmarket (4) and Wolverhampton (3) - runners of top5-FSS are:

Newmarket
1.30 Poet's Voice Purple Raven 8/1

Wolverhampton
5.10 Canford Cliffs Cuppatee 12/1, Lilbourne Lad Forgotten Wish 10/1

Sunday/Monday - there is no flat racing in UK & IRE before Tuesday

The one but last weekend before officially closing the run for the FSS championship and it is a very quiet one regarding runners for the top5-FSS. Zoffany has no runners on Saturday whilst Canford Cliffs' sole runner is the 12/1 shot Cuppatee. No really good chance visible for Canford Cliffs and I guess - depending on today's racing - there will be a 5 wins gap between Zoffany and Canford Clidffs come Tuesday.

Countdown to the final raceday for the FSS championship 2015 on November 7th: 6 days of flat racing in the UK and Ireland including tomorrow.

Current standing (without any winners from Friday): Zoffany 35 - 30 Canford Cliffs

Enjoy!

Yesterday Curriculum looked well up to winning races - next year now i would think - don't think winning was in the plan for yesterday's race.

Interesting maidens at Newmarket today, especially the first.

Newmarket 12.30
AGHAANY (7/1), a Dubawi debutante who is half-sister to Hadaatha (RPR 113) who ran third in the 10f. Group 1 Prix De L'Opera last year. Sire is 13/43 and trainer 6/99 with newcomers in the last three seasons.
ALYDAM (11/1) is a newcomer who is a half-sister to Dubday (116) winner of a 12f Group 3 at Goodwood in July. Sire 5/102, trainer 8/112 with newcomers.
RAVELIN (11/1) another newcomer, she is a half-sister to Rerouted (113) and Critical Moment (110). As far as I can see she's the sire's, Congrats, first runner here - he was the top first season sire in the US in 2010. C Hills is 21/219 with his first-timers.

Newmarket 1.00
TIPTREE, showed some ability on debut at Nottingham, she is a half-sister to Troubadour (113) winner of an 8f. Listed event at the Curragh.

Wolverhampton 5.45
A hot favourite in this one but TARTAN BUTE (22/1), making his debut is a half-brother to Soapy Danger (119) the winner of a 12f. Group 3 at Newmarket in 2006. Mark Johnston is 6/40 with his AW debutants and the sire is 6/51 wth all his first-timers.

There were 2 FSS winners since Friday: one for Frozen Power - now on 10 wins for the season - and one for Pour Moi - now on 6 wins for the season.

Today there are 5 2-y-o races in the UK & IRL - redcar (1), Southwell (2) and Wolverhampton (2) - today's top5-FSS runners are:

Redcar
12.30 Zoffany St Dunstan 40/1, Canford Cliffs Just Fab 8/1

Southwell
2.40 Canford Cliffs Belle Mare Plage 11/2, Lilbourne Lad Bit Of A Lad 14/1

Wolverhampton
4.40 Zoffany Zauffaly 8/1
6.10 Zoffany Sark 14/1, Canford Cliffs Jassur Evsf

Quite a good chance today for Canford Cliffs to reduce the gap to 4 wins with the even money favourite Jassur. Overall the season is dying rapidly though and neither are there many 2-y-o races nor are there many runners for the top FSS. I already had a brief look at tomorrow's races and the same applies there with just 4 2-y-o races, 3 top5-FSS runers, none for Zoffany and only one outsider for Canford Cliffs.

Current standing: Zoffany 35 - 30 Canford Cliffs

There were 3 FSS winners yesterday - one for Elusive Pimpernel (7 wins for the season), one for Dick Turpin (6 wins for the season) and - most importantly - the 10/11f Jassur (by Canford Cliffs) could only finish 8th whilst the 11/1 Zoffany outsider Sark obliged by a neck to give Zoffany his 36th win of the season and go 6 wins clear of Canford Cliffs. Worth mentioning, too, is the fact that this win had Zoffany equal Zebedee's 2014 record number of 36 wins in a FSS season. With 4 days of racing left there is a good chance that Zoffany will be the new record holder after November, 7th even though he has no runner today.

Today there are 7 2-y-o races in the UK & IRL - Kempton (4) and Nottingham (3) - today's top5-FSS runners are:

Kempton
5.10 Poet's Voice Himalayan Queen 15/2
5.40 Canford Cliffs Caitie 14/1
6.10 Poet's Voice Raasmaal 18/1

As mentioned above there are no Zoffany's under order today whilst there is just one 14/1 outsider for Canford Cliffs.

My gut feeling would be a small rise for Canford Cliffs to about 15.000 and a considerable rise for Zoffany to about 20.000. What do you reckon?

Two maidens worth a mention today.

Kempton 5.10
ROCKSAVAGE (16/) showed absolutely bugger-all on her debut at Nottingham but she is a half-sister to a sackful of very decent performers, seven black-type winner with the highly-rated Nathaniel (RPR 127) and Percussionist (121) heading the list.

Nottingham 1.20
LUGANO (14/1) a newcomer by Galileo out of a mare, Swiss Lake, who has produced five sprinters with a RPR of a 100+. Swiss Diva (116) and Swiss Spirit (116) being the best. Be wary though the colt is trained by Sir Mark and it's quite likely he will miss the break and finish tailed off, on the other hand......who knows how the Baronet's mind works?

30K minimum for Zoffany.

Being a breeder myself may be I was looking at it too much in breeder's favour - I was contemplating 20k, may be 25k. But obviously the Coolmore boys are very volatile in their fees and success spurs a hefty rise in fees whilst at the same point they don't wait too long to reduce fees - may be not quite so volatile -when lack of success. So you could be right, we'll see,

Just went through the next and final 3 days of this FSS season after today and unless I overlooked something there is no more Zoffany runner and only 1 more Canford Cliffs runner - if finally declared - until Saturday in a total of 8 remaining 2-y-o races (in case there is no split of races at Dundalk on Friday or in one of the 4 UK races on Saturday).

So, overall there is no more danger on paper for Zoffany's championship and Zoffany will end the season on a level number of 36 wins with Zebedee's record in 2014.

I'll continue the posts - with the few top5-FSS entries tomorrow and Friday morning and Friday lunchtime with the preview for Saturday. Afterwards I'll pass the buck back to Colin for his well deserved final words for the season and may be a final copy of FSS tables come Monday.

as with last season..Gosden has saved his Derby horse for Nottingham..this afternoon WAJEEZ has put in a similar figure to that Golden Horn achieved here last year on debut. Speed figure with sectional mark up is 115

only Golden Horn and Kingman have won on debut over the last couple of seasons with this sort of figure. check the video..v impressive. This is potentially the best 2yo seen this year.

33/1 at the moment for the Derby

something to look forward to over the winter months

Certainly a taking performance. Possibly the ground could dictate things.

What did you make of the Botti filly last week Aljazzi?

No FSS winners yesterday.

Today there are 2 2-y-o races in the UK & IRL - Chelmsford (2) - today's top5-FSS runners are:

Chelmsford
4.35 Lilbourne Lad Wilsons Ruby 9/4f

Just the one top5-FSS runner today. The season is wrapping up quickly - another 2 races for the 2-y-o's tomorrow and 4 on Saturday. Most interest at the moment could be the FSS to watch out for next season.

Countdown to the final raceday for the FSS championship 2015 on November 7th: 3 days of flat racing in the UK and Ireland including today.

Hopefully the ground issue may change as he grows according to what i've read..at 33/1 its worth a risk

2yo ratings from that Newmarket meet

ALJAZZI 79
TIPTREE 83
FIREGLOW 102

Certainly looks decent prospect.

Interesting. Look forward to seeing where she pops up first time next season.

How do you feel about the fee increases announced Danoli?
Kodiac 45k
Dansili 85k
Dubawi 225K

Where to pitch Gleneagles ? 20 to 25k ?

Gleneagles I would have difficulties to give a close guess, my gut feel would be that he'll be higher being a dual Guineas winner and a horse close to the Coolmore boys' hearts. And I'm sure they feel he's been delt with a touch unlucky, so I'd be surprised to see him as low as 20k. Also there's the aspect of him being a 'cheap' Galileo and I'd guess they don't want to water his fee too much with cheaper alternatives.

For the other 3 fees I would not really argue to much about any of them - even though they're not quite my normal league. I guess the highest I was contemplating about was Montjeu when he was still around the 50k's I think, did not do it in the end though and went to Alhaarth 3 times in 4 years before he went up to 25k.

Kodiac and Dubawi show a similar rise in percent and there is enough good progeny around to back the rise for those two. I must admit personally I'm a bit reserved about Kodiac as I think there are too many around already - just my opinion, there's good enough reasons for people seeing it differently. Dubawi shot through the roof this year and was in the headlines through some of his exceptional progeny and the fight he gave Galileo.

In a way I'd feel Dansili coming down being the best deal of the three but obviously the mare dictates whether it makes sense in the end. I guess the drop in fee may be a reaction because of his son Zoffany and that he may well take a bit off Dansili's mares.

So in my view all 3 fees are understandable - in the end the market dictates and I'm sure there'll be a good demand for Gleneagles as well as the other three.

Another winner for Lilbourne Lad yesterday - this is his win 21 for the season and gives him level third place together with Poet's Voice at the moment. However, Lilbourne Lad has no more runners today and tomorrow whilst Poet's Voicen has a 4/1 second favourite today that may well give Poet's Voice the sole 3rd place in the 2014 FSS championship.

With only 7 2-y-o races today and tomorrow (one race was split) and just 4 top5-FSS runners I'll do a combined post for both days now.

Today there are 2 2-y-o races in the UK & IRL - Chelmsford (1) and Dundalk (1) - today's top5-FSS runners are:

Chelmsford
5.10 Poet's Voice With Pleasure 4/1

Tomorrow there are 5 2-y-o races in the UK & IRL - Chelmsford (2) and Doncaster (3) - today's top5-FSS runners are:

Doncaster
12.10 Dream Ahead Dream Farr 10/1
12.40 Dream Ahead Foresight 4/1
1.15 Canford Cliffs Cuppatee 33/1

So of the top2-FSS Canford Cliffs has the final say tomorrow - not really that it matters and at 33/1 there's hardly a chance for another win there.

Countdown to the final raceday for the FSS championship 2015 on November 7th: 2 days of flat racing in the UK and Ireland including today.

Current standing: Zoffany 36 - 30 Canford Cliffs

I hope you enjoyed this season and conclude my contribution to Colin's thread here and hand it back for some final words and/or tables.
