The 2015 2-y-o thread.

One FSS winner yesterday when Shakesperean had his 2nd win for the season

Today there are 12 2-y-o races in the UK & IRL - Kempton (3), Navan (2) and Newmarket (7) - today's top5-FSS runners are:

Kempton
7.55 Canford Cliffs Justice Lass 14/1, Poet's Voice Ronnie Baird 16/1

Navan
3.50 Zoffany Lord Justice 15/2 & Remarkable Lady 15/2, Lilbourne Lad Dinozzo 11/1

Newmarket
2.00 Canford Cliffs Whitecliff Park 14/1
2.35 Lilbourne Lad Deben 40/1, Dream Ahead Tigerwolf 11/8f, Poet's Voice Colour Me Happy 7/1
3.10 Poet's Voice Poet's Word 12/1
3.45 Zoffany Knife Edge 15/8f, Canford Cliffs Storm Rising 9/4
4.55 Canford Cliffs Rio's Cliffs 7/1, Lilbourne Lad Southdown Lad 10/1

My form as tipster is rather miserable at the moment. Yesterday my two fancies for the forecast in the 4.05 at Lingfield both disppointed when Canford Thompson 2/1f finished in 7th place some 4 lengths behind the winner and Carry Me Home 3/1 fared only marginally better ending in 5th place some 2 lengths behind the winner. May be this poor form of mine together with my previos comment not fancying Zoffany's chances for today should be interpreted that now Zoffany will have a winner today. The obvious race for this is the 3.45 at Newmarket. In this 5 runner race Zoffany is represented by Knife Edge as 15/8f. He's obviously got a chance given his only race so far resulted in a 3/4 lengths win. However, 4 out of the 5 starters do have a good chance in this race given their previous form which makes it difficult to bet and the odds in smallish fields like this are far from generous, too. It's an interesting race to watch though - especially as the marginally higher 2nd favourite in this race is Storm Rising 9/4 and he is by Canford Cliffs.

Countdown to the final raceday for the FSS championship 2015 on November 7th: 15 days of flat racing in the UK and Ireland including today (plus 4 2-y-o races at Leopardstown coming Sunday).

Current standing: Zoffany 33 - 29 Canford Cliffs

Enjoy!

As I said before - the 3.45 at Newmarket did look tricky with 4 horses in with a good chance. And so it proved, the 3rd favourite won in front of the 4th favourite. Thus, both Zoffany as well as Canford Cliffs drew a blank in this one.

Good day for the FSS yesterday - 4 winners in total. Recently, the battle for bronze medal behind the top2 is producing winners most days. Yesterday Lilbourne Lad had 2 winners to go up to 20 wins for the season whilst Poet's Voice one winner took him to 18 and leave Dream Ahead behind on 17 wins. Interesting to see the different patches during the season. A couple of weeks ago it was a ding-dong battle at the top, now this has dried out. Lilbourne Lad, who started so well into the season is producing winners frequently this part of the season after having had a very dry spell in the middle of it. Dream Ahead, who was so impressive with his strikerate from rather few runners some weeks ago, does encounter a quieter time now. In contrast, Poet's Voice was never much in the headlines for significant success waves but he's in the mix rather constantly without any big ups or downs.

Today there are 3 2-y-o races in the UK & IRL - Chelmsford (3) - today's top5-FSS runners are:

Chelmsford
5.25 Canford Cliffs Rockley Point 11/2
5.55 Canford Cliffs Jassur 10/1, Lilbourne Lad Bourne Symphony 16/1, Poet's Voice Nietzsche 7/2

A quiet day in-between, Zoffany without runners whilst Canford Cliffs has two runners, none of them with the hottest of chances. Tomorrow should be different though when there are two runners for Zoffany and both are just about favourite or at least close to it whilst Canford Cliffs has another day without strong claims. Anyway, time is running out quickly and by Monday there are just 11 days of flat racing in the UK & Ireland to be considered for the championship. Should Zoffany make use of some of his chances tomorrow or over the weekend and go 5 - or better 6 - wins clear that should finally bury Canford Cliffs chances.

Countdown to the final raceday for the FSS championship 2015 on November 7th: 14 days of flat racing in the UK and Ireland including today (plus 4 2-y-o races at Leopardstown coming Sunday).

Current standing: Zoffany 33 - 29 Canford Cliffs

Enjoy!

Apologies for not getting around to posting on such a busy day for 2-y-os, a bit of a family crisis with a phone call at 5.25 from my sister saying that her partner was very poorly and had been diagnosed with a leak in his aorta and that nothing could be done for him. Arrived at the hospital and a different doctor had come on duty and said that the condition wasn't as serious as thought. Seems that it was just a pinhole and they carried out a procedure under local anaesthetic to seal the hole. They appear to have succeeded and hopefully after a couple of days he'll be home. Bloody clever these days aren't they?! Just wish the first doctor had been a little more circumspect, he caused a hell of a lot of stress.

Sorry for the ramble, the Chelmsford 5.25 has a couple running that may be of interest.

BANHAM (10/1), never able to get into the race after a slow start on debut at Newbury, is a half-brother to five winners, three of them with a RPR of 102+. Giant Treasure probably the best of them having form in Listed company in Hong Kong.
CLEAR EVIDENCE (20/1), last of 10 on debut but was hampered when trying to make headway 2f. out, is a half-brother to Peacock (RPR 113) second to Time Test in a 10f. Group 3 at Ascot in June.

Blimey bit worrying with that 1st diagnosis Colin, wow. Nice to see we are all in safe hands.
Alls well that ends well hopefully.

Good news in the end Colin. Glad to hear it.
I'm drawn to Clear Evidence too, even though he's the outsider of Stoute's 3. Yes he was properly carved up on his debut and it was just as he looked to be making a run for a placing at least.

Silver Wings tomorrow at WLV in a seller  - who'd a thunk it a few months back

Has 20lb in hand on the rest of the field - looking at its form tho dont even think its a banker at 6/4

Midday has a colt out today at Newbury by Galileo. Will be interested to see how he goes.

One winner yesterday for Canford Cliffs when Jassur (6/1) made all and drew well clear in the end to win by 7 lengths. I must admit it was a bit of an unexpected winner in my eyes as the form of 585 and the comments on the last result were not really encouraging for Jassur. What should have rang the alarm bell was that Jassur was napped twice at 10/1 in the morning, was backed down to 9/2 for the opening show and only drifted slightly backwards at the off to 6/1. I guess Jassur is no world-beater but obviously it was not the strongest of races and the 2 naps, the odds as they developed and the performance making all and winning by such a wide margin that there must have been some very good vibes for Jassur in training and therefore going into this race. It's a pity I missed this winner but it's good for the FSS championship fight continuing a bit longer. It's still all in favour of Zoffany with a 33-30 lead and so few days left, therefore it was important for Canford Cliffs to close the gap slghtly.

Today there are 12 2-y-o races in the UK & IRL - Doncaster (3), Dundalk (2), Newbury (5) and Woolverhampton (2) - today's top5-FSS runners are:

Doncaster
1.30 Zoffany Dolphin Vista 7/2
2.35 Canford Cliffs Blaze Of Hearts 25/1

Newbury
1.50 Canford Cliffs Hitman 33/1
2.25 Poet's Voice High Kestrel 9/1
3.00 Zoffany Silken Skies 3/1

Wolverhampton
6.20 Lilbourne Lad Custom 10/1
8.20 Zoffany Sark 50/1

Two of the 3 Zoffany's are 2nd favourite and close enough in the betting to hold a decent chance but the odds are a bit higher than yesterday so it's a matter of wait and see whether they can enhance Zoffany's total of 33 wins today or whether this may have to be delayed to the weekend. The two Canford Cliffs runners today are currently at odds of 25/1 and 33/1, so this should be good enough an indication there will be no Canford Cliffs winner today.

This afternoon I'll post the preview listing for the weekend.

Countdown to the final raceday for the FSS championship 2015 on November 7th: 13 days of flat racing in the UK and Ireland including today (plus 4 2-y-o races at Leopardstown coming Sunday).

Current standing: Zoffany 33 - 30 Canford Cliffs

Enjoy!

Briefly coming back to Galileo as Europe's Champion Sire by prizemoney in 2015.

There was an issue with some of the Irish prizemoney not being reflected in the overall table lately. I've contacted Wetherby's for this and gave them a few examples where prizemoney was not reflected in the table the next few days. It was a nice contact, they've investigated it professionally, sorted out the issue and informed back. Thumbs up, was a nice contact.

As per today's list Galileo holds a 357k lead in prizemoney over Dubawi and with the season rapidly coming to an end regarding European highlights Galileo is virtually home and dry for the championship.

My special thanks go to the rabbits who never quoted appropriate odds on this - offering 11/4 backed down to 6/4 before the Arc together with a small 5/1 insurance bet on a New Bay Arc win and offering 6/4 on Galileo once this risk has gone at a 220k deficit for Galileo but with a broad armada of horses (eg. Minding) and the hotpots at Champion's Day (eg. Found) still awaiting in the pipeline for Galileo.

Well done with the Galileo bet, how long can he keep it up seems an appropriate question.

Couple of interest today...... that's a 'Welsh couple' by the way.

Doncaster 2.35
KALKRAND (12/1), a Gosden newcomer, is a son of Dubawi and a half-brother to two black-type performers and a full-brother of Fox Hunt (RPR 118) the winner of competitive 12f. handicappers at Ascot and Epsom before winning Group 3s in Germany and Dubai.

Newbury 2.25
GOLDMEMBER (14/1) is a New Approach newcomer who is a half-brother to Ribbons (RPR 114) the winner of the Group 2 fillies race at the Curragh last month. David Simcock doesn't have a great record with debutants but New Approach's record of 10 from 85 isn't the worst.

Newbury 4.45
ALGOMETER (3/1) showed promise on debut at Goodwood when finishing strongly for fourth place. He is an Archipenko half-brother to three black-type animals including All At Sea (RPR 111), the winner of three Listed events in France.
KUMMIYA (9/1) a Dansili debutant who is a half-brother to Galactic Star (RPR 115) who finished third in Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket.

Wolverhampton 8.20
A surprising venue for the Gosden-trained million-dollar colt, Tathqeef (8/11)!!!

Here's the list of the top5-FSS runners for Saturday and Sunday (the odds are the forecast odds of the Sporting Life racecard by race and thus may not be as accurate as the odds posted in the morning of a raceday):

Saturday - a total of 13 2-y-o races in UK & IRL - Celmsford (2), Doncaster (3), Leopardstown (4) and Newbury (4) - runners of top5-FSS are:

Chelmsford

Doncaster
2.00 Canford Cliffs Thee And Me 66/1
3.45 Zoffany Foundation 10/11f

Leopardstown
2.20 Poet's Voice Gibson Park 33/1
4.05 Zoffany Zig Zag 5/1 & Bulgadin Lady 13/2

Newbury
1.20 Canford Cliffs Bay of St Malo 4/1
1.50 Poet's Voice Whitman 6/1
4.10 Poet's Voice Chastushka 11/4f

1.50 Lilbourne Lad Clon Rocket 10/3
2.50 Zoffany Remarkable Lady 16/1

Interesting weekend for the FSS championship and Zoffany's Derby favourite Foundation could play the star role in it if handling the expected softening ground ok and if a runner on the day.

Countdown to the final raceday for the FSS championship 2015 on November 7th: 12 days of flat racing in the UK and Ireland including this weekend (plus 4 2-y-o races at Leopardstown this Sunday).

Current standing (without any winners from Friday): Zoffany 33 - 30 Canford Cliffs

Enjoy!

Wolverhampton 8.20
A surprising venue for the Gosden-trained million-dollar colt, Tathqeef (8/11)!!!

Going there tonight for a few beers so noticed that - spoilt that race but what's perhaps as odd is it's Hanagan's only mount after Newbury, why isn't Frankie, Buick, Havlin, O'Neill on it as they'll be the jocks to use it going forward. All at Donny/Newbury as well.

Leopardstown 1.45
EVEN SONG (6/4), beaten two heads into third after being slowly away on debut at Dundalk last week, is a half-sister to Simple Verse (RPR 118) winner of the Group 1 Champion Fillies at Ascot last week.
PREFER (20/1), making her debut, is a full-sister to three black-type performers and half-sister to four others who have achieved that status, including Heartstead Maison (RPR 117), a winner in Group 3 and Listed company.

Leopardstown 2.20
THE MAJOR GENERAL (10/1), making his debut, is a full-brother of four black-type performers, including Gile Na Greine (113), second to Lily Langtree in the 2010 Coronation Stakes, and, Scintillula winner of the 2013 Group 3 Meld Stakes.
CLAUDIO MONTEVERDI (16/1) , a newcomer, is a full-brother of Lush Lashes (121) winner of the 2008 Group 1 Coronation Stakes.
ALPHONSUS (18/1), on debut, is a half-brother to Pallasator (115) the winner of this year's Group 2 Doncaster Cup.

Newbury 1.20
TUOLUMNE MEADOWS (9/1), promising debut when staying on for third at Kempton, is a half-sister to Circumvent (112) the winner of a 19-runner Heritage Handicap at Newmarket in 2010.
NATURAL BEAUTY (16/1, slowly away and well beaten on debut at Newmarket earlier this month, is a half-sister to two good black-type animals, the better of them Laaheb (118) winner of the 2010 Group 3 Cumberland Lodge Stakes.

Newbury 4.10
DAPHNE (12/1) is a newcomer who is a half-sister to Bold Sniper (110) a very decent 10-12f. handicapper who is now racing in Oz.

Two nice maidens at Leopardstown today.

12.50
SOMEHOW (6/1), making her debut, is a Fastnet Rock half-sister to Alex My Boy (RPR 115) who won a 14f. Haydock handicap for Mark Johnston before going to be trained in Germany and going on to win Group 2 and Group 3 staying events in France. He ran second over 8.5f. at Leicester on his only start as a 2-y-o. Fastnet Rock debutants are 4/49 since January 2013.
RING THE BELL (14/1), a daughter of Galileo, is making her debut, is a full-sister of two winners and a half-sister to Fire Lily (113) the winner of three Group 3s over 6f. in Ireland.

1.20
BRAVERY (7/2), making his debut, is a half-brother to four black-type winners, including Furner's Green (113) a winner on debut as a 2-y-o and good enough to win a Group 3, as a 3-y-o, at Leopardstown in 2012.
PIETRO TESTA (10/1), also making his debut, cost just the 2.6 million guineas as a yearling, he is a Galileo half-brother to Harbinger (135) the winner of the Group 1 King George in 2010. Harbinger didn't run as a 2-y-o.

Awtaad, winner of 1.20 a typically gorgeous Prendergast horse. Dark with size and scope and a lot to like about this son of Cape Cross.
The sire had a nice double when Moonlight Magic followed up in Eyrefield Listed race; the Weld runner up to him at Cork Embiran is no longer a "dark horse " for 2016.

By the by Pietro Testa ran with a tongue tie today; not what you like to see on debut with one costing 2.6M !

A surprisingly quiet time regarding FSS winners - since Friday the only FSS winner was Chastushka 10/3f winning by 2 lengths and thus giving Poet's Voice the 19th win for the season. Canford Cliffs did not have any real chances under order whilst the Zoffany's were a bit out of luck - especially Foundation. Seems to be a regular pattern nowadays of the Arc winning rider to encounter traffic problems. I have far too many in mind now.

Today there are 7 2-y-o races in the UK & IRL - Leicester (3) and redcar (4) - today's top5-FSS runners are:

Leicester
2.25 Dream Ahead Hillside Dream 5/2jf

Redcar
12.30 Zoffany Picture Painter 11/4
1.00 Lilbourne Lad Lilozza 25/1, Dream Ahead Wright Patterson 7/1

No Canford Cliffs' runners today whilst Zoffany has a runner at least close to being favourite. So it's another unused day by Canford Cliffs which leaves him a maximum of 10 days of flat racing from tomorrow until November 7th.

Countdown to the final raceday for the FSS championship 2015 on November 7th: 11 days of flat racing in the UK and Ireland including today.

Current standing: Zoffany 33 - 30 Canford Cliffs

Enjoy!

What do you make of her? Strikes me as one for The Oaks. Lot to like about the run.

Impressive enough, Frankel.

Certainly shouldn't have trouble with distance but a lot can happen between now and then..........haven't had an ante-post bet for over 50 years!

Rarely get involved at this stage myself. Especially when we may not have even seen the winner yet.
I won't ask who your last ante post bet was on then!

Impressive enough, Frankel.

Certainly shouldn't have trouble with distance but a lot can happen between now and then..........haven't had an ante-post bet for over 50 years!

Hope your memory did not serve you right and it was just under rather than just over 50 years ago.

In 1967 there was a nice little 100/1 winner of the National - Foinavon - and afterwards you said enough is enough and continued with the 2-y-o's on the flat.

The 12.30 at Redcar today provided no Zoffany winner either.

Already had a look at the racecards for tomorrow and Wednesday - no Canford Cliffs runners at all whilst Zoffany has 2 tomorrow at Lingfield (one of them a 7/4f), 1 for Wednesday at Nottingham and 2 runners in one of the Dundalk races which are not finally declared yet.

So the earliest for Canford Cliffs to have a runner will be on Thursday by when it's just 8 days left to make up the 3 wins deficit as per today.

Another blank day yesterday - no FSS win at all.

Today there are 6 2-y-o races in the UK & IRL - Catterick (1), Lingfield (3) and Wolverhampton (2) - today's top5-FSS runners are:

Lingfield
1.00 Zoffany Zophilly 40/1, Poet's Voice Arab Poet 8/11f

Wolverhampton
1.30 Zoffany Von Blucher 11/8f, Poet's Voice Dramatic Voice 80/1
2.40 Lilbourne Lad Bambino 20/1, Poet's Voice Electra Voice 15/2 & Polymnia 25/1

No Canford Cliffs' runners today so the race of interest for the FSS championship is the 1.30 at Lingfield where Zoffany has the 11/8f.

Countdown to the final raceday for the FSS championship 2015 on November 7th: 10 days of flat racing in the UK and Ireland including today.

Current standing: Zoffany 33 - 30 Canford Cliffs

Enjoy!
