The 2025 Oaks

The time of the Coronation Cup suggested there is not much wrong with the ground, today, at least.

If they water heavily and it's an unseasonably easy surface on Oaks Day, the one with the profile I like (though friendless in the ante-post betting right now) is Minnie Hauk.

She won the Cheshire Oaks on what seemed dead ground to me, she's a proven stayer and never underestimate the capacity for any Frankel progeny to progress.
Once again, your favourite Uncle Smart Arse keeps the wolf from the door - just! 😂

 I did actually think DO's theory was possible that as he drew alongside but at least for me the right filly won (and I did back her off her Cheshire Oaks win plus she's a lovely big filly) . Fav didn't not stay, just struggled with the track.

However, Coolmore's Whirl is a short-priced favourite for tomorrow's race and is 33/1 so I've added that to my 'Oaksfolio' (sorry for the plagiarism, Ian).

At least I got a return of some sort, probably just about covered myself on the race. I've been struggling for returns this past week so it is at least welcome.

You set the bar for magnanimous grace in victory and honest humility in defeat every day of the week on here, Maurice, you're also very quick to congratulate others.

I'm glad you carved out a result to keep your head above water on this one.

Thanks, Ian. Having manners doesn't cost anything.

And (not really aftertiming cos I emailed my brothers my bets this morning) I got 5/1 Mirsky this morning so that has covered me for the day.

I was starting to think my recent good run had come to an end but, on reflection, I blame myself for straying into races I'd normally let go and some of them are costing me.

Need to get back in focus for Ascot.

Can't believe the price of the front two. Be interesting to see which one progresses more. Augurs well for the coolmore runners tomorrow. The 4th showed delacroix form is pretty good. If we knew he stays the 12f what price would he be.

Well done euro on the exacta even if it looks like a fair few did the same well outpaid by the fc but still a nice bet.

Only a neck in it and if Lordan had picked up the whip in the final 150yds Whirl would surely have won, felt sorry for her as looks a true warrior

If you look at the head on whirl became unbalanced in rhe last half furlong. I think that cost her more than another strike with the pro cush.

Interesting I haven't seen the head on but that aside literally only 3 half hearted smacks in the last 2 furlongs - not that I wish to see a horse battered to win but the effort was underwhelming all the same
