You never know, the examiners may have a sense of humour too? B)
"and the chap actually managed to confuse Donoghue vs Stevenson with Macleod vs Atkins. How we all laughed. Snort, snort, snort.   "

Keep the faith, Phil! Anyway, whatever the results are I'm sure it was a good exercise & you'll have learnt plenty.

Good to see you about again!

Thanks Shadow. It certainly was a great experience and whatever happens, I know for an absolute fact that I do not want to become a lawyer or have anything to do with law. I don't think trials are conducted in a way that gives priority to whether or not someone is actually guilty. I think most trials are just an exercise in who, either the defence or the prosecution, presents the most believable story.

There was a recent case involving someone who had been drink driving and trying to outrun chasing police cars. The car swerved onto a pavement and narrowly missed some people who were standing at a bus stop. These people were called as witnesses and the prosecution asked them if they were shaken by the experience, to which they all said "yes". In the prosecution's summing up, the witnesses were referred to as "girls" - "the girls were very frightened by this incident"...."the girls were shaken by this incident"....the judge was a woman....most of the jury were women....the "girls" were in their late 50's.

It was all just about playing mind tricks with the jury in the hope that most were weak minded.

The guy got jailed.

Did I mention I passed my first year exam? Well I did! So pfffft!

My 2nd year began last Saturday and this year I am doing Understanding Law, which is the first course recommended by the OU. I did the second course first like the idiot I am.

This one should be a breeze.

Anyway, thanks for watching. Tune in again soon.

Well done, Phil. I never had any doubts about you passing, nor do I about the next one. When will you be opening your free advice section on here?

Well done Phil - see, there was no need for the negativity!

EDIT - guess I'd better clarify, before anyone attacks me wrongly for abusing people again, that I meant the negativity Phil displayed over whether or not he'd pass the exam.

I'm very flattered and touched by so many people congratulating me.

Thank you all.

Many things confuse me, though. One thing is the short amount of time spent on various subjects. I spent about 3 months studying criminal law and as far as I can see for the courses I still have to do, criminal law will not be revisited. Does that mean I am fully trained up on criminal law? It doesn't feel like it. Is that it? Same goes for public law. Am I fully trained (academically) on public law? Surely not! I would say I know the basics of both but surely I am not expected to go into the big bad world with only a few months studying on each?

I think criminal law is the simplest of all areas in law, no coincidence that criminal lawyers are the poorest lawyers in the country.

Anyway, I have decided not to pursue a career as a lawyer. I am more interested in reforming the industry ( "industry") - first stop is abolishing juries and replacing them with judges who will find themselves accountable and liable for the decisions they make.

After that I intend to reform the rules on demeanour in the courtroom. If someone wants to chew gum while on trial, so what! Let me do so. Same goes for someone who wants to keep their hands in their pockets and sigh loudly at the boredom.

Rant over.

I was hoping you might become the champion of lie detectors Phil. Do away with these legal circuses and the overpaid ponces who frequent them.

Just submitted my final TMA for this year. Exam is in 4 weeks.

WILL I PASS?

1000 YES
1.01 NO

That 1000 might not last long after An Capall snapped up everything at the same price last year and ended up purchasing those Rwandan mining rights.
