The Road to the 2012 2000 Guineas

Camelot may win this on the bridle.

I reckon they won't be able to resist running Camelot in this, all being well. With doubts surrounding many of the fancied ones it's difficult to see where the opposition is coming from until they start to reappear.

They'd only be quoting a handful at this stage if that were always the case. Power for example may not be ready in time after a setback... they're still quoting him. AOB has said that Camelot is not certain, but they're still quoting him.

Ladbrokes is taking a view that HW is unlikely to line up despite the yard's commitment to get him there if possible.

That's not the same thing as the trainer saying he's unlikely to run.

I think the French horses are worth looking at - Abtaal and French Fifteen both posted very nice wins last autumn. Dragon Pulse was more than holding his own with Power and Parish Hall before moving to Makfi's trainer, who's also got the once-raced maiden winner Hermival in there.

Abtaal, French Fifteen and Hermival are all entered in the Prix Djebel next Thursday (April 5th).

Gareth, i've already backed Abtaal. I personally think Harbour watch has the best UK form but with him unlikely to turn up and Hamdan having no obvious UK runners I think he could turn up and his defeat of FF looks strong given his subsequent exploits. Abtaal looks the more obvious miler of the two.

Think the videos of the Abtaal's win and French Fifteen's win are worth looking at. For me French Fifteen was a completely different proposition for being dropped out in a bigger field. He settled much better and picked up impressively. The time before, Abtaal got a very soft lead. I certainly wouldn't be sure Abtaal would confirm the form given a different set of circumstances and took some 33's on French Fifteen with Coral earlier today.

Are they on YouTube DJ? Or are you registered with equidia?

Haven't seen the races but not a fan of the British form so would consider backing both at the prices.

http://www.equidiavideos.fr is the site you want Aragorn - it's a subscription site but there's plenty of decent packages (30 Euro's for unlimited vids for 3 months is a good one and the 20 Euro's for 150 vids I think it is).

If you Youtube "Criterium De Saint Cloud 2011" and "Criterium International 2011" you'll get French Fifteen's two wins up.

I would advise signing up to the £30 for 3 months, I've just as recently as Monday signed up to Equivid and it's a fantastic investment.

Google Chrome also has an application that helps translate everything on the page if you're struggling.

Cheers chaps. Signed up and just paid for ten for now. I'm not planning on tackling French racing on a regular basis!

DJ, Bonfire is an eye catching runner in the criterium International, Derby chances?

I'd still be sweeter on Abtaal at this stage despite him clearly getting an easy lead against FF. Well bred, should stay a true run mile, can really quicken and on pedigree quicker ground should be ok. FF looks to lack real acceleration to me.

No point having the price if he doesn't run - from what AOB said the other day it sounds like he's odds-against to even make the race.

Commercial reasons following news of Montjeu's death must make the Guineas very likely now? They have a number of his stouutly-bred Derby-winning sons on tap to breeders, has to be worth the gamble if they can continue the sire line through a Guineas winner.

Have you seen the size of Camelot?

Would be surprised if he would finish in the first 6 in this years 2000 Guineas.

Needs 10 furlongs minimum.

Aye, but have you seen him run?

He settled too well off a slow pace to be considered on a 2000 Guineas program in the Racing Post Trophy and they even had the choice to go a fast pace but choose not too.

Most horses with lots of natural speed pull hard early on in slow races when held up, they rarely find them attractive to run in unless they are let out in front.

Said that on the other thread - I reckon he'll definitely turn up now.

FF settled a lot better in the Criterium and Abtaal did get first run on the field in the Bryon. The latter is the more likely because he did slam them that day but FF is twice the price on Betfair.

It really is a fascinating renewal with Camelot unbackable because of the pedigree and the doubts re him running added to Most Improved and Top Offer having nothing to warrant backing them at single figures.

He's like Godolphin Aragorn - would struggle to name a decent 2yo of his that has done anything at 3. He overdoes it at home with them and they hardly ever show it on the track.

On the flipside with him so short it means Abtaal and co are so much bigger :)
