Tingle Creek

To sum up

On his day Shiskin is the best horse in ther ace by some way.

Nicky no matter what he says won't have been pushing him to peak fitness after such a serious set back. As he often says himself you don't really know till you run them.

Paul Nicholls on the otherhand is 100% sure to have his 110% fit because the future hold very little for him when the big boys are in full swin
so this is his gold cup.

NO BET RACE

Was catching up with this thread and from the last page or so I was very worried that Edwardstone was a non runner, being completely dismissed and underrated imo.

I can't bring myself to back Shishkin but I can't bring myself to back against him.

I have taken the cowards way out and backed Greaneteen to be in the first 2 @ 1.68 and 1.67 which I think could be buying money bar a fall

took him at 11/8, the reasons he's gone out to this price are obvious and presents plenty of risk, but if he's anything near the horse than won at sandown and ascot last year he should win

Shishkin...looked dull in his coat and never really travelling like he has done in the past.

Well done, Edwardstone backers. I've been following the horse since his hurdling days but just thought today was a big task to be taking on but he has slaughtered a course specialist.

Ed Chamberlain just made an interesting point about whether Shishkin should step up in trip, and according to Nicky Henderson they will step him up in trip.

Fair play to those who said Shiskin would run a bit ring rusty today. That's how he has ran I reckon.

I just hope for his sake he will improve for the run.

Ive lost a fair bit, but stand by the fact i think 11/8 was a good bet despite losing, i take solace in that.

Unfortunately my work colleagues who i told to get on dont share my thoughts

Winner very good - well done BoS, and Edwardstone backers generally.

Shishkin ran pretty-much as I expected. His jumping was a little ropey, though he did warm-up to it, and I liked the way he stayed-on doggedly after making an arse of the Pond Fence. Connections are probably quite chuffed, I imagine.

Greanateen ran his race and seems to have no excuses.

Nick, surely you were hoping for more than that from Shishkin. They can try a different trip, and even ground, but we’re not going to see the old Shishkin back.

Meanwhile Edwardstone won impressively against a good yardstick.

Not really, Art, no. Like I said, he ran almost exactly to my expectations pre-race.

I also think connections are being a bit premature in upping Shishkin in trip. That only really makes sense if they did have him fully wound-up for today - in which case, then you are probably right - and we won't see him reach the same levels as previously.

It will be interesting to see where he appears next, because Ascot for the Energumene rematch is presumably no longer part of the plan, if they're going out in trip.

As I said above, I thought he looked dull in his coat....especially considering how Hendo’s usually look....Jonbon and Chantry House were gleaming. He never ran with much enthusiasm either. Yes he got back into the race approaching the Pond fence which he hit but he never looked the likely winner at any stage for me. They may well have been cautious with him but they have brought horses back from the dead before....Sprinter for example, and they at least looked the part. Shishkin for me today, didn’t.

Will his coat come back naturally, Jinny? How does that work?

I'd doubt Energumene will run in the Clarence House.Imo, they only ran him there to see if he could make all in the QMCC, hecouldn't and the rest is history.

Usually they go dull in their coats if they’re not feeling 100% or they are cold (hate it when they leave rugs off in the paddock - surely you need to keep muscles warm?). He’s clipped as you would expect but he doesn’t gleam with good health. In comparison Jonbon absolutely shone in his coat. You don’t need to brush them necessarily to get them to look good. It’s all down to the horse being in good condition, fit and on good feed.

I’d love to do Ken Pitterson’s job as I’d do a better job! I do paddock inspections for my tame bookie at the point to points and then get better prices for anything I want to back. He invariably rings me to say he will give me a lift to further afield so that I’m there.
