Triumph Hurdle 2012

Minsk entered on Saturday at Fairyhouse

He's been buried in the market since I last checked - 10/1 to 6/1 generally 7/1 in one spot. If he were capable of winning that race at the weekend he would deserve to be the price he is but not before he goes and does it. I still believe though!! :D

Re Minsk

"I'd expect a good run from him. He has schooled well and looks a natural," Hughes told At The Races.

"He's able to fiddle a hurdle well and is good and quick when he meets one wrong. He's not stupid. I think he's going to be fit enough to do himself justice.

"He'd nearly have to win to justify that price. He looked a very good horse in the Cesarewitch and he looked quite good in the ladies' race he won on quicker ground at the Curragh.

"For me I think he wants soft ground and I honestly think he'll go on heavy ground.

"I'd be hoping when he gets to Cheltenham there'd be a good cut in the ground."

Ground comments must be a worry for his supporters I would have thought . . .

He sluiced up on good to firm in a decent handicap on the Curragh and Oxx was quoted as saying he thought the ground too soft for him when he won the Ces on soft. He is ground undependent.... don't mind Hughes.

If he laps the field tomorrow I would not cut him from 6/1. The second fav is a JP non-jigger for God's sake.

They haven´t run for a while as we had them cut. They are two very good horses but I gave them time to get over it and I want to get them qualified for the Triumph Hurdle. That would have been their first proper bits of work since they joined me and they´re having a good blow.-Evan Williams, trainer.

This is Evan Williams talking about Kayalar and Zarzal; the former runs in the Adonis today. I was wondering though what the conditions are he refers to for running in the triumph? Does the horse just have to have run under NH rules?

Oohh Noooo! Brutal from Minsk - should have won still but difficult to see him go to Cheltenham now . Dessie Hughes and frogs to hop springs to mind!!

You are like del boy clinging to previous glories. You got your money when Sammy James was booked. You needed to leave it that...

Were they trying to be clever and win cheekily. You still have a chance that he will be balloted out OTB.
He might have a future over hurdles but not at this years festival.

Surely in danger of being balloted out of the race though Granger?

Triumph Hurdle must give priority to winners over hurdles?

No worries Granger - someone on Twitter's pointed out to me that the Triumph safety limit is 30 so probably get a run whatever as unlikely they'll get that many declarations.

Dildar, Minsk and Sadlers Risk bubbles burst in about 10 minutes. Come on Paul, give Hinterland a run in this, ferk the Fred Winter.

Well, having now seen all the main candidates I've decided to dip my toes in and relieve Ladbrokes of a bit of their 10/1 about Pearl Swan. His performance LTO after only a short break looks about as good as we've seen so far, he stayed well up the hill and Nicholls reckons he can have him better for the festival (hinting that his previous runs had been about getting a decent mark for the Fred Winter). Not a confident choice but the 10/1 looks too big to me.

Minsk based on my flat figures is much better than the form suggested.

Wouldn't be surprised if the horse was heavy today as it would provide the Irish with a lovely drift in the market to take advantage off.
