Trump vs Harris

This thread has become a microcosm for the creeping toxicity of modern political discourse. Relatively reasonable (most of us anyway) adults who can debate topics in a relatively mature manner most of the time become teeth snapping name callers and mud slingers when the name 'Trump' is invoked.

Bigly sad.

It beggars belief that when Kamala Harris was asked what would she have done differently from Biden her response was that nothing comes to mind.
It smacks of blind loyalty to Biden and it’s no wonder she lost IMO

Apologies if this has been mentioned previously but I can’t be bothered to wade through the pages of vitriol

I think that's the bottom line Viking, Harris is an empty vessel.

The hand wringing over there about the 'end of democracy' is amusing to me, the majority were unhappy with the policies etc of one administration, they voted accordingly and the guy who won the popular vote and the electoral college will be made president. If after 4 years the majority are unhappy with their performance they can vote in the dems again. Sounds very much like democracy to me, the fact there are those on the losing side this time don't like/have trouble accepting the result etc etc is irrelevant, nor do they get to harang people for not voting 'correctly'.

Can they harangue them for not spelling harangue correctly? 😋

How about suspending someone who refers to a woman as a slut, too?
Just to chime in here real quick. I don't read every post nor thread, but if it is called to my attention that there are folks in the forum who are violating the community rules (like telling someone to eff off) then I am obliged to take action in order to keep the forum semi balanced without aggressive verbal attacks.

If you are the recipient of verbal harassment, flaming, etc., or see other members being beaten up with language that doesn't meet the standards of a proper debate or discussion, or that a poster is violating our rules and guidelines then please report it. I can take a look and deal with it from there.

The guy who was scolded earlier was not banned or suspended - he just got 72 hrs of a time out for THIS thread only. He still has full access to his normal forum experience. I don't think that is too heavy handed.

So many of my centre-left peers never learn - you don't get working class people to vote your way by telling then they're stupid if they don't.

Hasn't worked with Brexit and most elections in my lifetime over here and doesn't work over there either.
Plus ca change - Jonathan Swift nailed it 300 years ago:

It is the folly of too many to mistake the echo of a London coffee-house for the voice of the kingdom.

Despite my dislike of Badenoch and Trump, I have to admit to a perverse pleasure following their elections this week in witnessing the fit of vapours emanating from the chattering classes

They just don't get it do they...will they ever?

Strange that because when Johnson was London Mayor he called Trump "Out of his mind" and 2 years later Trump was calling him a mini Trump and was his bestie. So that is nonsense. Lammy told the truth as did Johnson
The difference is Johnson was PM -realistically Trump had to deal with him-Lammy will be lucky to have a photograph taken with Trump.

Regarding acceptable conduct here, as stated I don't actually care what anyone says to me.

But if I did I'd struggle to differentiate between being told to "get to F" and being told I'm "talking bollocks" or "utter nonsense."

People who use such language are exhibiting an inability in that moment to be civilised and simply say: "I disagree," they may also confuse their own opinion with fact, but that's their problem, not mine.

There is an ignore button for those who have had a gutful of tiresome posters (like me?), but I haven't felt the need to deploy it personally myself - so far!

Trump is happy to have a vice president who once likened him to Hitler. As long as people give him the reverence he craves past comments don’t seem to bother him. It isn’t really in the best interest of this country to keep bringing up things that current politicians have ( quite rightly imo) said about Trump in the past. It’s just political point scoring that’s bad for us in the long term.

That is so true if people come to the states legally without hoping fences or overstaying their visas. The same goes for every border - to include the UK's. I am a proponent of taking in legitimate asylum seekers - processing them and making them feel that they are a useful part of society - giving them a chance to work, and in essence creating taxable citizens. Once you're a US citizen, you are taxed by the US no matter where you are on this planet. lol

Give it a miss ec21 and get your mind out of the sewers. We"be had a skinful..
The Russia hoax, impeachments,29,SA claims debunked calling him a dictator despite him already being President before, and referring to him as Hitler who was responsible for the deaths of 6 million Jews with no regard for his Son in Law, daughter and their kids who are Jewish..

It was his vice president who likened him to Hitler though…

Whatever one thinks of his politics or him personally, it's a remarkable victory for Donald Trump.

In terms of electoral college votes, it's, at worst, a comprehensive victory, and, at best, a landslide.

And he's won the popular vote with in excess of 50% of it - which in my view is the greatest mandate of all.

And it looks like he's helped the Republicans not only win the Senate but most probably Congress (the House Of Representatives) too.

If you believe in democracy, you won't dispute his right to enforce his policies.

The next four years may be many things, but boring will not be one of them.

You mean if he decides to nuke a country and blame someone else? that type of not boring? Yep really not boring is that. Trump discussed using a nuclear weapon on North Korea in 2017 and blaming it on someone else, book says

Here’s one to ponder.

We are anticipating Trump bringing in tariffs, in order to stem the flow of imports into the US. Rumours are now circulating that the UK would be exempt from such tariffs, because we are a close ally of the US. I wonder what price Trump would be looking for, in order that he spares us US tariffs.

Would Starmer have to sack his foreign secretary, who had previously said bad things about Trump?
