Trump vs Harris

I work with a few Eastern Europeans and meet a few more regularly through sport. They would have the view that the Donnbass has been disputed territory for hundreds of years.Admittedly Ukrainians have a different viewpoint.

Now imagine if Russia put a base(s) on the USA's doorstep in South America even if the country had willingly invited them to do so....oh yeah we've seen that one before , USA would have a mental.

I'm not saying I agree with Putin but it's not black and white

Indeed and I read at one point that part of the reason that de-escalated was because the yanks quietly removed missiles they had in europe pointing at russia, how true that one is I dunno though.

Not overly surprised we are where are if what the video says is true, I've heard all that previously though, if the yanks had promised no eastern expansion of nato and then reneged on it and then instigated a regime change in Ukraine to one that suits them and then move towards nato/usa being in Ukaine. Not that the yanks would ever do anything like that of course.

So sad if Ukraine lose all that territory after so many lives have been lost trying to keep it.
So sad that so many lives have been lost at all.

I'm no fan of Putin, but I don't like Zelenskyy one bit either.

And I'd say the Ukrainian soldiers who have died have done so so that Zelenskyy can cling to power.

A peaceful solution is needed, but the trouble is a peaceful solution involves seeing BOTH sides's point of view and it's literally impossible to argue Russia's point of view (feeling increasingly threatened for years by NATO military exercises on their borders) without being derided as a Putin appeaser or a Russian Shill.

Trump and Farage might be wrong about a lot, but they might not be wrong about everything.

My ex girlfriend and her family are from Latvia.

When are asked about the Russians, they just replied 'bastards'.

Not a word that should be understated in the current climate.

There's nothing egalitarian about invading another country.

We need a world where people sort things out with diplomacy, and military action a very last resort.

The fact Zelensky was advising his citizens to remain calm before the actual invasion because he didn't even believe the U. S intelligence reports that Russia was about to invade says it all really.

A needless war about the perception of geo political power, rather than a necessary war. Let's hope Donny can sort it out.

Mind you, the U. S and U. K did this with Iraq, which was another disaster, so it's all happend before, and clearly will all happen again.

Whenever I see him in his little actionman outfit when the rest are in suits I think about this and wonder if he's really in charge.

Correct - the US removed Jupiter missiles from turkey as the quid pro quo.

“As Australia’s ambassador in the United States, the former prime minister Kevin Rudd will be well aware of the need for diplomacy at all times.

But his future in Washington appears under threat after videos emerged of the former leader calling Donald Trump a “village idiot”.

The video came to light on Tuesday, days after Rudd deleted posts on X in which he labelled Trump a “traitor to the West” and the “most destructive president in history”.
…not just Lammy then…

Trump is replacing current neocon warmongers with more belligerent neocon warmongers with deep ties to Israel. Trump's America First, antiwar platf1731451831138.pngorm is dead on arrival. The tiny hatclub have taken over..

I could be wrong, but I think that generally speaking Donald Trump is instinctively an old-fashioned isolationist USA President, wanting to keep out of foreign conflict and happy to impose protectionist policies, tariffs etc.

I'd say Israel is the exception because Israel isn't considered foreign, it's considered to be that extra USA State.

I think this will shape his foreign policy and, while he will want nothing to do with Ukraine, he will want everything to do with Israel.
