TV coverage

It’s a big part of ladies day don’t forget, so I guess it makes a bit of sense given that they are the businesses who benefit massively this week?

Horses running round in circles are a side show

AP was right about a couple of things, I accept, but the evidence is there that he doesn't seem to fire at Cheltenham.

Whether he'll get another chance to disprove the theory is another matter. I imagine AP will be strongly suggesting to connections that they find a 'winnable' race there in the first half of next season and try out his tactics [of going flat out the whole way from the front over 2m].

Did I miss the most exciting part of the show?
You did! The fragrant Ms Quek (who to be fair is far better than I was expecting) has a major crush on Hendo who she has now met and he's offered to train the horse that she bred for free. Hendo was positively drooling over her.

Sam Quek is a super fan (celeb crush). Hendo came over to say hello. He was quite excited. Thought he was going to pull some moves.

I saw her say he was her celeb crush earlier ( I watched some of the James Martin program first thing) - I’m not surprised that’s the outcome 😆 the only bit I’ve seen her doing that made me cringe was when she was with Luke - other than that I don’t mind her at all.

At last...

Mick Fitz promptly corrects Ollie's grammar gaffe and fair play to the latter who took it in good humour.

I would have no doubt that OB would have known he'd made the mistake and just tripped under the pressure of being live on TV.

I can't imagine the fat arse taking being corrected in such good humour. He'd have plumbed the depths of his sunken ego to try and retort with a personal jibe.

I've got to say something about Johnny Ward who usually covers the less glamorous Irish tracks for RTV.I think he is an astute observer of Irish Racing with the ability to get owners and trainers to talk freely.Today before the First race at Killarney he said nobody on course who had seen Young Churchill could back him because of how badly he was sweating up. He was 11/8favourite at the time and ultimately finished 5th.
I know that's one observation but I have been paying attention to him for the last 18 months and he is well worth listening to.

Quite refreshing to hear a bit of positivity about a racing pundit on this thread. 🤣

More positivity:

Although they have little or no impact on my own strategies, or betting, l think there are loads of well informed pundits/presenters on TV these days (though obviously they don’t/can’t reveal all they know). When I first started taking an interest in racing as a young boy in the mid 60’s, the overall quality of analysis, both on TV and in the press was a million years behind what is available now - and it stayed that way for a long time.

I have a high regard for Lydia Hislop, the Dixon Brothers, Gary O’Brien, Kevin Blake, Ruby Walsh, Seb Sanders and a few more. Nick Luck is excellent and I think we are lucky he is involved in Racing as he could be a top Journalist in any field. His interviewing style, his adaptability and his relaxed nature drawing information from his guests that not many others could. I always think he would have been a great political interviewer, had he gone down that route.

I agree with Mr W’s opening paragraph. We are indeed a million miles on from Jimmy Lindsey’s ‘looks a pitcher’ expertise. I like Nick Luck too.

Oh well, if you change your mind, I’m happy to hear your alternative views. I won’t take it personally.
My opinion is maybe tainted because I used to work with one or two of the people on your list.

I'm not saying I don't think they had any ability, but they certainly couldn't tell me personally anything I don't already know, especially in the what is, or isn't, a value bet department.

There's a lot more knowledge in the betting industry, which I moved onto, and more still among certain punters I've met along the way, and the better they were the lower the profile they kept.

But the racing media isn't targetted at a cantankerous 62yo former member of the profession and may do a great job for most of its audience.

That's why I mute it - my deployment of the mute button is a win-win for both them and me. 😂👍

I like Nick Luck. I have fond memories of sitting on the floor at one of our racing club meeting ( held in a rather run down working men’s club) with both of us eulogising about Zenyatta in the Breeders Cup ( he’d just got back from America). Then again I have fond memories of all of the racing folk who used to make the effort to come to our previews. What always shone through was their total love of racing.

Nick Luck features on Race For The Crown, the new Netflix series.

I noticed a new member signed up to this forum recently. His name...Nick Luck. He could be reading in now.

It probably is as he's a member of Pointing Pointers and generously donated to Gullible's Hunter Chase sponsorship this year. One of the good guys of racing.

Mr Whatoxo - FWIW I think your list of pundits is spot on although I would add Jason Weaver to the mix.

And then I heard she had agreed to marry Spiderman and my heart shattered.
