TV coverage

I have similar views to what others have said i.e. tv racing does nothing to aid viewers abilities with form analysis or betting approach. If they did I'd have to pinch myself.

I think Chapman has set his sights on trying to fill the spot left by McCririck, the bombastic approach can grate but at least he can be half way entertaining at times and it's a counter balance from what can be a bit too the jolly hockey sticks , fencing sitting and oft repeated superlatives to make them meaningless.

More lazy punditry from Dave Nevison on Racing TV earlier, discussing his tip who “I have backed”.....but horse had been declared a non runner 3 hours earlier

I rarely look at ITV. Never really

Twitter seems to think they are cheerleaders for Bryony Frost

Is this true

Not seen any today but I have been in work.
In the past it’s been nothing short of cringeworthy. Literally all crawling up her backside

For the RTV commentary to not give a single mention to the fact favourite ; West Approach fell at the 6th (or 7th ?) in one of the biggest races of the year was pretty embarrassing. Didn’t even pick up on it at any stage of the race.

I think Hoiles is seriously over-rated as a commentator and he's better then the rest of the ITV team.

Chamberlin has the makings of a good front man but, like the entire production in general, is too fawning of everything and everyone.

Walsh - so far - has brought refreshing sobriety and I liked that he opted out of making a selection for the Hennessy the other day. Hopefully he won't one day go native (is that PC these days?) and will continue to say what he thinks. But I find the ongoing spats with Chapman spoiled by the latter's truculent attitude.

I don't think I could ever tire of punching Chapman's coupon.

I miss Francesca Cumani at this time of year but nevertheless...it is what it is.

I always just count myself lucky that we have a terrestrial broadcaster willing to put the racing on on a channel like ITV.

Seriously? I'm guessing for her looks and not what comes out of her mouth? How she has been nominated in the HWPA awards is a sad indictment of the standard of broadcasters if she is nominated ahead of them.

I find her the most down to earth of the usual middle class brigade that tend to take up these media jobs.

I have offered my services to ITV Racing but Matt Chapman never got back to me on Linked In. :)

Having said all that, the Thursday of Cheltenham remains the best day's viewing ever.

What was the name of the racing broadcasting operation that started about 20 years ago? ARC?

Anyway I applied to work with them and got a positive reply pretty much along the lines of that my application was successful and they would be getting back to me shortly to discuss matters further. They never got back to me.

Their loss.

If only middle class people can get to university...it's not only because it's in their price range but because most of the professions will only take you in if you are from the right middle class background.

I think its scandalous. I really feel for working to lower class kids and what their life chances are in this nepotistic and unfair country and jobs market.

Anything connected with horse racing is completely incestuous in this country. It's not what you know, it's you who know. Cumani would NEVER have a proper TV job if her father wasn't Luca. Notieable that she uses her maiden name even though she is married. Oli Bell the same, if Ding Dong wasn't related.........
Many years ago when I worked in the industry, a stud manager I knew through a visit to see one of their stallions, asked me at my first big sale, how on earth did someone who worked there have a job as they didn't know one end of a horse from another? One of the first questions I was asked when I worked there by one of the more 'up their own backside' people there was 'who were my people? How many horses did we have? ' Well none as Papa worked in a biscuit factory most of his life when not serving in the army during WW2...immediately excluded by half of the office staff from anything. Without being a big head, only my knowledge of breeding which they did not have, and was acknowledged by senior management, made things bearable there. I loved the job but ultimately gave it up as couldn't stand the social exclusion.

I am glad you succeeded, GG.

I have had no luck in life.

Well, apart from the defence barrister I was allocated in 1999...very little luck.

Sometimes it feels like I need approval from some dodgy masonic lodge just to get a date to meet a decent woman. :)

The masonic lodge being all those female friendship groups they have these days.
