TV coverage

He takes his Cue + has to answer to certain people. They're the culprits.
Mute button till the stalls open !
Maybe. Last time I went, I went off to chat to Jason as a few of you know, I know very well (I taught him to ride for three years in the Pony Club and encouraged him to become a jockey). Anyway I waved over to Jason in the booth to come over and Ed bounced over convinced it was him who was important enough - and actually asked me if I wanted a photo of him and me together. I said no, Jason was a long term friend. But he's really full of his own importance.

I can understand it seeming not right but analysing how a jockey sits on a horse and controls surely has a lot of common denominators across codes.

And it could be so much worse - it could be AP...

It's bad enough having Luke Harvey.

Ruby at least comes across as intelligent and articulate.

Wonder if they'll give Ryan a shot when he retires 😆

I think Ruby is very good analysing races but think it would be better to have a Flat jockey do it. I appreciate not every jockey wants to do media work but it pays pretty well so I am surprised one hasn't stepped forward. Someone like Adam Kirby who is a good talker.

Ok, so I did turn the TV on at post time today to watch the races only and, as they were running late, I did see Luke Harvey in the swimming pool with his top hat on.

It was muted, so no idea what he was saying, but it did make me smile.

I ever-so-slightly know Luke to say hello to and chat with from the Points and he follows me on X because I used to post results, and tbh I think he's the sort of bloke it's impossible not to like in person.

He's the most self-deprecating modest fella I ever met - and he's no mean trainer of a Pointer either.

My God.

That little interlude was funny.

I’ve never really been able to take Luke Harvey seriously ever since, many years ago he was featured in a Channel 4 documentary about the tough life of a NH jockey. I can’t remember (closely related to the name of one of the best horses he ever rode, Country Member - who Luke rode in the Grand National once. He was more or less favourite - fell at the first)! which other jockeys featured in it with him, but one snippet from the documentary stuck in my mind.

The jockeys were sharing a house and they did a long shot down the corridor as Luke emerged from his bed right next to the bedroom door and walked down the corridor towards the camera. In keeping with the presumed rockstar lifestyle of a jockey, I was half expecting a scantily clad young lady to emerge after him. Instead, a Jack Russell jumped down from the bed and ran down the hallway after him.

Well, I thought it was funny.

The Oisin Murphy case got a mention on the morning programme.

They kept a fairly straight bat on it but the big disappointment was that there was no mention of any concern regarding the recovery of the injured passenger.

They would be under instructions not to mention anything apart from the identity of the accused, the charges faced, and the date and venue of the next hearing.

Looks like another 4 years of ITV according to the RP

Story is behind a paywall so can't link it

Where else could it go though?, no chance the BBC will cover it again

If you enjoy watching ITV Racing, it's good news.

If you don't enjoy watching ITV Racing, but want racing on terrestrial TV, it's good news.

If you don't enjoy watching ITV Racing, and don't actually care about racing being on terrestrial TV, it's might still be good news as it might bring more owners (outright or in syndicates) and recreational punters into the game.

I don't even watch the specialist racing channels, let alone ITV Racing (couldn't even be bothered to turn the telly on today - it would have meant moving from being crashed out on the sofa to being crashed out in the La-Zee Boy (far too strenuous in this heat 😂) - but even I can see an indirect benefit for me somewhere down the line.

Remember, you don't have to watch it and even if you do, you don't have to listen to it.

There had never been so many different ways to watch a horse race - we're spoiled.

Think we need to be grateful that we get such comprehensive coverage on terrestrial tv. And it’s way more than in either BBC or C4 days. So I will put up with this presenters I’m not keen on just on that basis.

I agree in principle but there are so many things they could do so much better and with better personnel.

"So much better" for YOU, Maurice - you're atypical of their target audience.

I'm not big on being told I "should" or "need" to be "grateful" (or think anything) and I zone out whenever I hear or read (the RP are fond of lecturing the very people they're trying to get a fiver plus off for their paper) that sort of thing, but if racing was solely populated by people like us, Maurice, winning would be even harder than it already is.

I hardly ever have ITV Racing on - and it's muted when it is - and I don't actually care whether it's good for racing.

But I do care about whether things benefit me and it might just bring a bit more recreational money into the betting market.

I had to google that, Walsworth, and found the results disturbing - given you're a bloke! 😂

Sounds to me like you're missing his point, Ian...

Going back to the discussion about TV, as I see it the better and more meaningful the TV coverage the more it will bring in a wider audience and the wider the audience the more likelihood of varying opinion and interpretation of the information which will create edges of their own.

The racing papers and websites have been sharing stuff with readers/viewers/audiences more and more since the early 80s and it's made finding edges easier for those prepared to look for them.

The current tv coverage , beyond the actual races, does nothing for me tbh.
Just seems bland to me, at least it was more watchable when it was McCririck & Francome etc and smelled less of paint drying , imo.

Over the last few days I have been switching between the Test match and ITV racing.
Changing channels just before race time and hitting the mute button.
I can honestly say that if I closed my eyes I could still enjoy the cricket.
If I did the same for the racing coverage I would be slitting .y wrists.
