What are you backing Today? Part 2

The layers have come out in force to lay my pair, so I've done mine each way. 7s a piece.

Beats the hell out of me why Knight of Allen is odds on in the 2.05 at Donnie he has 3 miles written all over him.

Wreckless Eric was very green on his debut but ran a cracker and he looks the speedier of the two and should take this.

9/4 into 13/8 it would seem someone is in agreement...............

Don't know if it's been mentioned on here or anywhere else but in the Betfair Hurdle my main bet is on Tellherthename 10/1, taken this afternoon. I suspect this one will halve in price by the race.

If memory serves, Nicholls had a couple of entries which he took out at the 5-day stage. Cobden has been booked for the selection, which I take as a positive. Off 135 here, the horse holds entries in both the Supreme and Ballymore and the trainer seems very keen on taking in the former. I presume that means he rates the horse at least 145. Several recent winners have got in here off modest marks and taken in one of the two big novice hurdles at the festival and I think Zarkandar even took in the Champion Hurdle.

Have had a go at the outer of the party Bugise Seagull at 12/1 in the Sidney Banks (Huntingdon 14:50).

The price seems rather dismissive of a horse that is 2-from-2 at around this trip under Rules, won't mind the ground, gets weight from two of the three others, and is well within hailing-distance on official ratings.

I’ve had a go at Aurigny Mill in the Betfair. This horse has been highly progressive and the way he won at Kempton sauntering well clear from two out makes me think there’s plenty more to come.

My punting record has been awful over the last few months so he’ll probably be tailed off

That’s the one I’m looking closest at, vike.

Nice to see Vic Dartnell with another good horse in his care.

I took 10s because the 12s showing at Ladbrokes/Coral weren't available with the market being suspended. I'd presumed when it came back on the price would have been cut. When I checked again a moment ago the 12s were back up and 5 places being offered so I've gone in again, each-way this time, to the same money then went into the other bookies and cashed out the earlier bet for the full stake back. I even got the 12s boosted to 13/1 :)

I was tempted with him and probably should have (possibly will) considering its now NRNB stage but I didn’t on the basis I expect him to be withdrawn due to the forecast heavy ground.

Pauling following his last win:-

“We are back on track. We turned a lot of stones to try and find out what happened at Aintree. We found a few little bits and bobs, but nothing that put us out for that long as you could see. I was just keen to get his season back on track before we dwelt on it for too long. The ground there was soft enough, and it is not the good to soft that they have advertised, but TELLHERTHENAME has handled it very well. He is an unbelievably class horse. That now gives him his fourth run so he has got the option of the Betfair Hurdle, but the ground would have to be spot on for that otherwise we will go straight to the Supreme with him. I think he is a class horse with gears galore and I sometimes think they are best fresh. They go such a gallop in that race (Supreme) and if you are anything but absolutely ready for the day then you might get flat footed - Ben Pauling, trainer.

Tellher is out of tomorrow's race, as that quote signaled was likely.

Got to say, couldn't see a (typical) Malinas outspeeding classy runners in a big 2 mile race on good ground. He likely will struggle in a Supreme, though maybe strength will count for a bit and help get into the top 6. Hope BP ends up going for the Ballymore (best 66-1 BF Sportsbook)

Yeah, I've got the quote in my form pullouts and was hoping it would be withdrawn if the ground went against it, that way getting my money back. If 135 is its true level then it should be 150/1 for the Supreme but it's only around the 20-25s mark. That's pathetic but it might be a reflection of ante-post interest from people in the know. I reckon it will be at least 50/1 on the day so happy to leave alone for now as it won't run before the festival now.

Reckon Protektorat has a better chance than the prices suggest of upsetting Shishkin tomorrow.

I sincerely hope you are wrong but the money says you could be right...I've been backing Shishkin for plenty and averaging 1.82 on the machine but he hasn't budged an inch.

I just hope my confidence in Nico getting the job done without any mishaps this time isn't misplaced

Couldn't have Shishkin over 3m, on the same ground considered unsuitable at Newcastle.
Even Hendo's giving the impression it's only a prep.

He has drifted badly but being a glutton for punishment and believing none of these will live with him over the stiff fences in the long punishing straight I backed him again...Nicky is just being Nicky he always covers his back when dealing with one of his that can be a bit dodgy..pay no attention to him

I've dutched Allegorie de Vassy and Maskada in the Opera Hat as the oddsmakers have Riviere D'etel at 11/4 and she should be double figures on a track like Naas. Both in doubles with Ballyburn (Supreme).
