9.15 Kempton - Whaleweigh Station

I know that trainer John Jenkins is very hopeful of giving Gina Mangan her first win over here.

Warthog changed hands for massive money earlier this year. Came from same yard as Finnians Oscar & Poli au Roi with a very big reputation. He should readily take the Chepstow Bumper tomorrow evening at 15/8 for a pre Cheltenham boost.

running in the last today at chepstow, looks quite competitive on paper

I was tempted to stick this up, on The Will win thread, but better not.

Musselburgh Friday 4:55...Bollin Julie.

A nice win two starts ago, couldn't be any better handicapped, a leading chance, (if not potential favourite).

I'm glad to see it declared today. Got a good feeling about this.

4.10 I'm a Game Changer has a rapidly improving profile and can continue progression here under Dickie after hosing up last time from the well regarded Dino Velvet

Earlier Coastal Tiep (2.00) should land this with PFN keen to recover some ground in the trainer's race. I think he can beat the NJH horse off level weights and should beat the Hobbs one getting 6lb

Just a couple at Dundalk tonight that could be overpriced.

Well its not fancied on the good ground, which is a concern but not a total finisher of its chance. I think this could prove the market wrong today. Its a decent each way price now. So i'm undeterred.

I realise this is aftertiming central, not something I usually go in for...BUT...I posted the info stuff earlier and meant to follow up with the form stuff but the builders let me down so I had to rush out.

THIS would have made my reputation on here...now it just makes me an aftertimer! ;)

Anyway, Private Malone not getting his head in front cost me 25k.

Available at 22/1.
Shifting Star may be twelve years old, and vulnerable to younger legs, but he is well handicapped on his form here as recently as last September and looks worth a small e/w consideration at a big price. He has yet to win over this C/D in eleven previous visits but a repeat of nearly any one of those performances would see him get competitive against this field. Last time out wasn't one of them but he went off too hard that day and, reunited with his usual jockey, he could be seen in a better light. A draw in stall ten is a drawback but there isn't a lot of early pace in this race and he may not have to do too much to get a good prominent position soon after the start. Before his last run his last start over this C/D came when he finished just over three lengths fourth of ten runners in a better race from a 12 pound higher mark than he runs from today. If he can repeat that run he would hold a serious chance in this affair.

2.30 - Newbury - Private Malone. 1 pt e/w. Available at 10/1.
This is a competitive race for the grade and slight preference at the relevant prices is for topweight, Private Malone. He showed ability when winning his first three races over hurdles and he transferred that ability when going close on his Chasing debut on his reappearance this season. That's as good as its got because he has been well beaten in three races since and was pulled up last time out. However he faced difficult tasks in two novice races and ran better than his final finishing position/distance beaten suggests over this C/D on his penultimate start. He has to be forgiven his latest effort but three miles in soft ground on a stiff track (Sandown) may have stretched his stamina. He is a horse who has had problems with ulcers so wide fluctuations in form are probably to be expected. He sports headgear (cheekpieces) for the first time today and that could help him as could the drop in trip to 22 furlongs. The yard have a 0 from 40 record at this track in recent seasons so he will have to break that duck if he is to prevail but, if he returns to that Chase debut form, he would have every chance of doing so.

3.05 - Newbury:
Malapie. 2 pts win. Available at 9/2.
Beer Goggles. 1.5 pts win. Available at 9/1.

4.55 - Musselburgh - The Wise One. 1 pt e/w. Available at 10/1.

Bangor 3:25 Cresswell Breeze is my strongest tracker horse. Worthy of a mark of 130, top weight, and a price of 3/1, imo.

Newbury 2.25 - Icing On The Cake looks well weighted - He didn't go up a lot for winning three runs ago, when beating one of Dan Skeltons, (Knockgraffon). He looks to have been pitched perfectly in the right race here, off a low weight, by his trainer Oliver Sherwood, imho.

Kelso 2:40 - Big River has a big chance. Heavy ground form an obvious advantage. This will do for me.

I've done an across the cards each way Yankee on four of Nigel Hawkes runners today. He's been flying of late, and it looks like he's specifically targeted today with his better young horses plus a couple of nicely handicapped ones.

I also have a couple of Dartnell/Woolacott horses in an ew double.

This weekend is often targeted by this kind of trainer, presumably on the basis that many of the bigger yards are focused on the Festivals at the moment, and a couple of races apart usually are ticking over sending horses out that are well down the pecking order.

Edit.

I should actually post them!

1.50 - Newbury - Tinker Time. 0.75 pts e/w. Available at 22/1.
Shotavodka looks sure to run well at a track he likes and Vieux Lille is arguably the horse open to most improvement over fences. Killala Quay is still well weighted on his past form but, at a big price, it could be worth chancing Tinker Time. He is probably weighted to his best on a mark of 130 and he was disappointing at Taunton last time out. However his two previous efforts this season were up there with the best he has ever produced and he hasn't gone beyond three miles many times. One of those times saw him run out a convincing winner at Ludlow sixteen months ago and the second has since improved twenty pounds. His career best came over an extended 23 furlongs here and, although the yard is a lot smaller nowadays, they still place this type of horse well.

2.25 - Newbury:
Icing On The Cake. 1 pt e/w. Available at 11/1.
No Buts. 1 pt e/w. Available at 12/1.
This is a competitive Handicap Chase with plenty of the field coming into the race in form. Slight preference is for the two horses at the bottom of the weights, Icing On The Cake and No Buts. Icing On The Cake showed ability in a Novice Hurdle race on his reappearance at Fontwell in October but connections wasted no time over the smaller obstacles and he was straight into handicap company over fences for his next outing here in December. He won that four runner race narrowly but he hasn't been as good on his last two starts. He unseated his rider at the third at Ludlow last month and didn't find as much as looked likely nine days later at Sandown. He will need to do significantly better if he is to be involved in this much better race but, as a former Irish Point winner, he will be suited by today's step up in trip and he has the potential for improvement after just six starts under rules. No Buts is not an easy horse to predict but his career best effort came the only time he ran over this C/D back in 2014. He hadn't got his head back in front since until winning narrowly at Warwick last time out. He had hinted that a form revival wasn't far away at the same track on his penultimate start and a two pound rise still leaves him well weighted on his old form. The yard are 2 from 8 with their Chasers here in recent seasons and send just the one to the track this afternoon.

2.40 - Kelso - Eminent Poet. 1.5 pts win. Available at 7/1.
Heavy ground and an almost 26 furlongs trip will make this a severe test of stamina. It's just as well that most of these are dour stayers and, although he has yet to produce the level of form of some of these, slight preference is for Eminent Poet. His best form has come on soft/heavy ground and, under such conditions, he has a progressive profile. He is still unexposed as a stayer and the extra yardage here could illicit the improvement he needs to defy a five pound rise in the weights for winning last time out. The yard haven't sent many here in recent seasons but they send two on the long journey from their Welsh base this afternoon.

3.35 - Newbury - Castsfiore. 1 pt e/w. Available at 14/1.

With the Dubai World Cup meeting taking place today it may be worth supporting a few at decent prices:

11.45 - Meydan - Stormadal. 0.5 pts e/w. Available at 40/1.

12.50 - Meydan - Quest For More. 1 pt e/w. Available at 12/1.

3.30 - Meydan - Vivlos. 0.75 pts e/w. Available at 25/1.
