What are you watching

I was just going to mention the Robert Carlyle one, too. I can’t remember the storyline ( so long ago) but know I was totally gripped by it.

Just watched a cartoon on BBC iplayer about Wojtek, the bear who was a corporal in the Polish army and ended up living in Edinburgh Zoo. I first became aware of him when I saw a book about him at the Chain Bridge Honey Farm near Berwick ( I managed to buy a copy of the book recently). There are several statues of him all over the world including Duns and Edinburgh. There is also a podcast about him on The Rest is History but it’s currently subscriber only. A bit like Seabiscuit in that, if someone wrote a fictional story about him it would be deemed totally implausible.

I'm a serious fan of the Rest is History Podcast, Moe. Coincidentally Wojtek is the subject of this weeks release. Not sure if you are a podder, but you may find it here, below. It's a brilliant story very well told. I laughed and Mrs AC wept!

Not available yet unless you’re a subscriber. I tried to listen to one about Harald Hadrader (sp) the other day ( currently watching the last couple of series of Vikings) but that, annoyingly is still subscriber only. I wonder if it’s some sort of anniversary, given that they’ve done the podcast about him and the BBC have shown the cartoon? I used to listen to TRIH all the time but I’ve just discovered History Extra ( there are 2,000 to listen to!) which I prefer, and Dan Snows history podcast ( I’ve just listened to the excellent one about Shackleton). If Wojtek remains subscriber only I’ll have to subscribe.
Oh, hang on, it’s now available! Just off shopping but can’t wait to get home so I can listen to it!

Just listened to it. We go to the Chain Bridge Honey Farm all the time ( it’s one of my favourite places in the world; they have a lovely cafe in an old bus that sells great cakes and scones; also have a museum full of old farm machinery and vehicles and an old train carriage which, coming from a railway family fascinates me) I had no idea that Wojtek swam in the Tweed under the bridge or that he ate honey from the farm! I must admit to shedding a few tears listening to it.
