York Dante Meeting

Tom Segal

3.00 Spycatcher

This is a really interesting market for a race I cannot get involved in (if I bet Hurricane Ivor one more time he basically turns into my Mister Fisher of the flat.) Minzaal is a chronic price for what he's done (Champion Sprint is almost always wank form given it's position in the calendar - so Vadream is out as well) and Dragon Symbol with a non-trainer of sprinters is not a horse you want at short odds fto so that leaves you with not much.

******* hell - Minzaal is 5/2 and Hurricane Ivor is 25/1 - they are basically pretty much equal in merit.

I can't agree:

Rohaan’s Wokingham win, on my figures, is the best form on offer and it would appear RPRs agree. Buick looks a serious booking but if they could get a few pounds off the horse he’d have a real shout of doubling up at Ascot. Minzaal’s profile appeals more and I suspect he could be a G1 horse by the summer.

I've bet Devilawala 50/1 each way in the 2.25 York.

I'd already backed Aberama Gold at 16's, but I agree that's a very big price for a horse that looks as though he could benefit for a step back to 6f with the pace drawn around him. Sure to be staying on, so I've followed you in. Missed the 50's, but 33's 7 places with Skybet taken. I've also added Punchbowl Flyer at 25/1 7 places. Goes well fresh, he's back to a winning mark, he's just had the wind op, and Buick on top won't do any harm either.

Been checking out the opposition
I've found it damn near impossible to find one that could blow wind up Samburu\s backside even at the weights.

Samburu 5star ***** bet 5/4 is stealing money

Had a small interest on Hurricane Ivor who is just too big

And I've laid Minzaal and Samburu Star - both too short.

Been waiting for Nomadic Star 2:25 to come out again after his unlucky run last time, but he’s not much value in the huge field. Count D’Orsy in same race should be able to wangle his way into the top seven on the evidence of decent run to 2nd from a bad draw at Chester last time.

Deviliwala broke perfectly well and just couldn't go more than a furlong with them. Completely taken off his feet.

My god that was a terrible race. I still can't believe that the owner of Dragon Symbol saw fit to move him to Varian.

Never actually looked like losing but the 2nd ran a blinder.

However trust me don't assume the 2nd will automatically win next time:)

I dutched Royal Patronage 11/1 and White Wolf 22/1 in the Dante. Can see RP going off way shorter. White Wolf is a complete flyer, mad that it's running here.

Royal Patronage into 11/2. Pretty happy with this.

I'm not a jockey guy but isn't Atzeni retained by Emaraaty Ana's owner?

I'm following Slim in on Royal Patronage. Has the solid form and two of those ahead of him in the market could be pure hype horses. The other seems a mudlark.

I think the big move for Royal Patronage is down to Simon Rowlands but that 12/1 was very... what's the word I'm looking for? Rhymes with BROOOOD

Tom Segal and Paul Kealy have both tipped it

2.25 - Thunder Kiss 3/1 (2nd fav) - should be favourite in my book so has to be a touch of value at the price. I suspect the trip is the reason but when she dropped back to this trip before she replicated her previous best rating at shorter so I'm not at all worried about it.

The double with Ravenscraig Castle (5.20, 4/1 tops) pays 19/1 so just falls short of qualifying for the longshot thread but I reckon 2/1 and 5/2 are the correct prices, 9.5/1 the double, so there's good value there too. (But, of course, it means it's almost 1/10 it won't actually come up...)

When I suggested an EW bet on Bluegrass Royal Patronage was 11/1 and even 14/1 in a place

He's the best backed horse in the race but those expected to run are so I don't get this massive price change.
I did consider him for this but he was beaten far too easily in the guineas to be thinking he'd a Derby horse.

On the book El Bodegon should always have been fav for this but his best form has been on soft/heavy ground
he did run Ok on G/S so I wouldn't be put off him because of the ground.

I see the drift in Desert Crown as a big plus here and he now looks a decent bet at 7/2.

Despite the drift for this no one is rushing to lay him for the Derby
He was 10/1 6days ago and now he's best at 7/1.

There must be a chance he's as good as they think so I am having Desert Crown 2star** bet 7/2
along with my EW bet on Bluegrass
