York

Everything looked fine beforehand but something wasn't right

Now that the tears have subsided you have to have a right laugh at the last ten posts!! Top picture Grey - you had it on standby I'd imagine..:D

2:00 tomorrow - I give a decent chance to the horse at the bottom of the handicap, Very Good Day. I find it helpful to look at when a horse was first given a rating and see whether it looked lenient, fair or harsh sometimes. By anybody's accounts a rating of 105 for winning his maiden at Haydock two season ago looks very harsh: perhaps being a well bred type by Darley meant the handicapper thought he was progressive, either that or it was his previous run behind Rewilding.

His best effort (or an eyecatching one) since gaining this atrocious high rating was probably the six lengths defeat he sustained to Halicarnassus when staying on in a valuable handicap at Haydock last season. That indicates he will want a left handed track like York and the likely good ground will be fine. His last run when 3rd wasn't too bad either it has to be said. More importantly, he's slipped to a very winnable rating of 85, and whereas two seasons ago he would have been running off top weight here, he now carries bottom weight. If Mick Channon has gotten to the bottom of this fella he could win at a price.

Officially retired from aeroplane spotting.....havent felt as deflated since Peddlers was beaten in the CH two years ago....so until the next hype monster arrives -there is a space vacant and Imperial Monarch remains unbeaten.... It's up to you sir!

York tip again today...HARRIS TWEED 14:30

HARRIS TWEED should go out and make all with Liam Jones on board, as he did recently here when winning by five lengths.

...I like Imperial Monarch, but I'm not quite sure he is up to aeroplane status. Perhaps we should leave it alone for a while. It was good fun while it lasted though.;)

Has anyone rated the card at York today?

Jesus Christ that has to be the worst rating I've given to a Group 2 sprint in donkey's years which pays tremendous respect to Tiddliwinks who had to show an electric turn of foot to win from being held up whilst subsequently I think all the hold up horses were massively disadvantaged.

Just looking into it a bit further...there might be a case for him being underrated because he's made his way up the ladder being dominant from the front and kicking on using that turn of foot which we've seen in evidence today. The sort of race has been harder for him especially trying to dominate in top class sprints where you're almost out with the washing before the 2f pole although I notice today is the first time the Kevin Ryan team have really held him up and may have unearthed a totally different animal. (Upon further evidence he's been held up maybe 2 or 3 times before)

Can't get away from the fact that the time was VERY POOR but that doesn't dictate that the class of the opposition is poor but rather they've faced uncompromising conditions especially for sprinters with Kevin Ryans' Tiddliwinks doing remarkably well.

To think if he finds him self in a race where they go over the top out in front he could swoop them from the year? interesting but would like to see him do it on the clock first.

Interesting,

Tiddliwinks has gone and won the Group 3 Greenlands Stakes at The Curragh today, what do we make of that?
