    Bread

Bought a Waitrose fresh bloomer on Sat on a rare visit. Tasted three days old straight away, but did make great toast this morning Most stores own bread is soggy rubbish, step forward Asda for outstandingly bad award; one exception is Sainsbury's, at least the store near me: their's is really...

    Japanese Tsunami

To me it reads like a sincere comment, rather than a joke. Either way, I'm surprised at your tolerance levels, to put it politely.

    Japanese Tsunami

I think that's the single most disgusting post I've ever read on any forum

    Cheltenham Festival: Preview Nights

You kinda get the feeling there is no love lost between McCain and Nicholls from some of the former's comments. Also interesting to hear SM drawing a distinction between old and new course form, not come across that before.

'Scuse me, while I kiss this guy

Oh, and another - Diana Ross's 'Chain Reaction' - I remain convinced that at one point she sings, 'Tell Eddie Waring there is no salvation' !!

'Scuse me, while I kiss this guy

Nice thread. There's a Tina Turner song called 'Steamy Windows', which is actually quite good; it starts with her rasping out 'Randy old bastard in the front seat', or so I thought. Disappointingly, turns out to be 'Radio blasting in the front seat'. Also the part in (the truly ghastly)...

    Unedifying sight ?

    Amen to that

    Unedifying sight ?

Definitely was in vogue early 70s, when it finished I'm not sure, but at a guess mid to late 70s. I remember ground specialists like Power Point and the aforementioned Mighty Marine at the southern tracks. No watering back then!

Road to the Gold Cup 2011

As someone said elsewhere, Denman's performance in The Hennessy was the best in a 3m+ chase all season. If the wind op has been anything like successful, he's a shoo in for a place and outstanding win value at c 8-1

    Unedifying sight ?

Very much so, record time, I think. Seem to remember summer jumping at D&E and Newton Abbot being described as hard, and Timeform describing the likes of Mighty Marine (probably my favourite horse ever) as 'liking to hear their hooves rattle'

    Unedifying sight ?

My thoughts exactly, very eloquently put. Kinkeel seemed unnerved by the responsibility of carrying my fiver yesterday.

    Round The Horn

At Towcester today, swear I heard Jim Old say this was the best horse he'd ever had - tannoy barely stretched to the area I was standing in. This from the trainer of a CH winner: makes you think. You'd go a long way to see an easier winner, with all due allowance for a pretty poor race. One...

    All Time Classic Albums

BBC4 has broadcast several great music documentaries lately, and this was another. Read your post whilst listening to a Traffic 2cd retrospective, prompted by the programme - Dear Mr Fantasy, John Barleycorn, Low Spark of High Heeled Boys etc., great stuff: lit up my evening. A truly great...

    The Ferbane Man

Is it reasonable for this one to turn out again, having finished second at Warwick yesterday? A three mile novice chase in bottomless ground 24 hours after ploughing through Heavy, Soft in places? Feels a bit cruel to me.

Emmerson, Lake & Palmer: the apotheosis of self indulgence. Sample album name Brain Salad Surgery; says it all really. Everyone says punk was an antidote to Pink Floyd; wrong, it was a reaction to the appalling ELP

Yes, me too, was there that day. He had a real purple patch around then: lovely animal. Name appealed, as it turned out to be so paradoxical (or should that be inapposite?) Talking of Wagner, I remember someone once said that 'His music is better than it sounds', which hit the nail quite squarely.

Why thank you, nice to be acknowledged! Will try to summon up the courage to post on horses before too long: feel a trifle overawed in the company of some seriously well informed members....
