Not just you. We get it love, you worked for Australian TV. Now give it a rest, eh?

What Tanlic describes is good jockeyship. That's not automatically the same as being a good horseman, which is a phrase used in all spheres of equestrianism not just racing. It tends to mean someone who grew up around horses, who understands how they behave, who can handle tricky horses others...

    Godolphin

I'm concerned* about what will happen to Juddmonte when Khalid Abdullah passes on. None of his children are interested in racing and he's already cut back his broodmare band and sold off three of his nursery studs. *It doesn't keep me awake at nights but, you know, when the subject comes up.

Only if they fulfil the qualification requirement regarding chase wins.

As opposed to...? When all's said and done it's predominantly a meeting of trials, not a season target or major festival in its own right.

    The Racing Rant Thread

Bookmakers who immediately shorten up any runner who is reluctant to load/line up or who the jockey has dismounted at the start for an as-yet-unspecified reason or who spreads a plate at the start, in anticipation of a W/D and a bigger Rule 4 deduction.

Johnny Murtagh has been an interesting temporary addition the last couple of days; not afraid to give his opinions and much better at getting across insights into the life of a jockey than the likes of Mick Fitz.

    2-y-os 2017

I also read every day, really appreciate the work you put into this Colin. I'm not a punter but my main interest in Flat racing is the breeding side so I thoroughly enjoy this thread - I just rarely have anything meaningful to add.

And he also lost Vautour and, in essence, Faugheen and Annie.

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Menorah the highlight of the day for me. He, his win today and his connections sum up everything I love about NH racing.

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Amberleigh House has died aged 25 after colic complications. I saw him a few times in his retirement at the National Stud, he was a great draw there and seemed to love the attention. He certainly loved Polos!

Fair play to Chapman, he doesn't shy away from asking meaningful questions. Raising the rumours about Sam T-D's future at Ditcheat with Paul Nicholls makes a change from the usual anodyne "how does that feel?" post-race blether.

    Craven Meeting

I generally agree with you but a note of caution to bear in mind with regards to the Craven time - there was a hell of a tailwind on the Rowley Mile yesterday.

Didn't have a bet but as a sentimentalist, I am delighted to see Frankel have a genuine Classic contender from his first crop. The length of time he took to pull up bodes well for him staying further too.

    Craven Meeting

He was flashing his tail a bit in the closing stages too. Both signs of a horse that wasn't happy with something - be that the fast ground or the track undulations (or both).

I like Autocratic in the Earl of Sefton. Needs to find a bit on ratings but there's no one better at bringing a 3yo handicapper up to Group level at 4yo+ than Stoutey, and the stable is in fine form with some rare AW winners.

Fingers crossed all progresses smoothly and you get a little cracker next year.

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Lovely interview on ITV4 which mentioned former Lincoln winner Smokey Oakey is now working as a Riding for the Disabled horse.

No, that was Wakea and he got up okay - think he was just winded.
