2 Mile Chasers 20/21

I hope to god Rouge Vif doesn’t get pulled.

Not because I’ve backed him, but we’ll have to listen to Mick Fitz, Ruby, AP and Luke Harvey telling us what they’d be doing in the race with the designated horses they’ve ‘chosen to ride’.

Sad to see Altior miss out tomorrow, no doubt will be a love-in for Politologue and how he can do the 'biz' again at Cheltenham, come March, ignoring the fact he is one of the most below-par winners of a QMCC in years!

I have to conclude that Altior is not the horse he once was and he won't be winning in March.

Then why not run him tomorrow in a much easier race and where speed will be likely be less of a factor?

What i can't work out is why Put The Kettle On wasn't entered for this; soft ground was always a strong possibility, mares allowance with no penalties, easier than running against Chacun Pour Soi (and as it turns out probably Notebook too).

My 36 and 33 about Castlegrace Paddy has been clipped into 15.x with Altior still in the Betfair fu*cking market.

What the fu*ck is going on??

Edit: They’ve just pulled Altior. I assume I’ve been filleted as I backed in the day-of-race market rather than ante-post. Bas*tard.

Not exactly the horses fault his opposition didn't turn up on the day is it?

He's a solid as you like 165+ horse with a Melling and Tingle Creek to his name and four G2's over fences before his Festival victory is taken into account. You'd think he was a selling plater the way he's talked about at times!

Agreed Bonjers.

With the fragility of Altior and Chacun and the fact his odds will no doubt shorten if he justifies favouritism today I’m surprised Betfair have left him unchanged for March at 20/1. So I’ve topped up - yet again.

I think Grassy has answered this " Henderson is a bit of a coward"

One other thing that sticks in my mind is the claim Altior has always been the fastest horse in the yard (even though there has been a couple of CH winners) yet watching him gallop with Epadante he looked anything but. When and where he races next will be interesting.

PTKO just seems to run her heart out at Cheltenham and I will be surprised if the next time we see her isn't in March . For me the only horse she has to fear is Chacun Pour Soi and he is the Darren Atherton of horses.

Why's Politologue not long odds on today then? On ratings he's got lumps in hand.

Greanateen is going to end up going off fave here.

This was a horse that The Fat Man talked up like he does for the Grand Annual and it had 3 Irish horses ahead of it carrying similar weights. He's not very good at getting them handicapped for Cheltenham.

I missed all the drama last night, which has cost me a few nice roll-ups running through Altior. I’ve woken up to a proper ouch!

Hendo is a complete bottle job. The ground is okay, and there’s nothing in the race that could stretch Altair like Cyrname did last season. Unless there’s something we don’t know it’s just a really really poor decision.

Greaneteen just can’t be good enough for the Champion Chase unless the race completely falls apart. The same is true of Chosen Mate. The trouble is there’s a chance the race could fall apart just like last year. There’s an angle somewhere I’m sure.

This yoke scrambled home in the Haldon - how the fu*ck is it edging favouritism against the Champion Chaser?

Hasn’t beaten a horse if note its entire career. I will lay this for my stones if it continues to shorten.

Scrambling home off 151 in the Haldon Gold Cup (even the “mighty” Janika won it off 162) does not make a champion chaser and I just cannot understand Keals and others fascination with the horse.

He hoses up today and I may change my opinion but until then...

Only reason it’s so short is cause some decent judges wrongly like the horse. I’m half tempted to place lay it.

Looking at Chosen Mate I'm shrugging my shoulders as to what the plan is this year.

With Altior out and the ground unlikely to suit RV, Politologue should win. I think a lot of people are underestimating his CC win. Brewin’upastorm (see longshot thread) I reckon would have been at least second in the Arkle and he doesn’t have Tricky Dicky to deal with now. He got a nice jog round in rear behind Imperial Aura at Carlisle, presumably to bring him on for something like this. The other two wouldn't really be on my radar.

I bet Brewin’upastorm at Carlisle. Maybe it's because I bet it but I thought it was one hateful ******* of a run.

Same here. You can usually spot a pattern with Gordon, but what he’s doing with Chosen Mate is just strange. None of the hurdle runs make sense. Usually it would be to protect a mark, but he hasn’t got a mark to protect. He talked him up as a Champion Chase candidate, but he’s getting no more chasing experience in to him, or testing him against anything.

Does he think he can get his hurdles mark down and drop him in the County maybe? I don’t know, but he has something in mind.

That's got to be a possibility. The Storyteller type hanciapping.

Exactly that. He definitely has something in mind. In fact that has to be it. Get him onto a nice mark for the County, and if the Champion Chase properly cuts up he doesn’t lose the option. It might be worth looking at the any race option for him.
