2000 Guineas

a speed figure of 118 is about on par for an average Guineas winner...so just on the clock nothing special...but they did dawdle a little early on....so would not expect a big clocking

i'm not sure I would want to judge too many horses on todays race Charlie

..some just didn't turn up...steadyish early pace...then sprint?...catch a few out?

I'd sooner judge Ravens Pass on Craven, Ibn Khaldoun on RP Trophy thats for sure EC

indeed

the ground was surely against RP though...I got it at just into G/S which is a little to do with the wind admittedly ..but the ground was on the wrong side of Good for RP for sure.

The same should equally be applied to the winner then? Ravens Pass might be a length or two better than that with a clearer run but either he is not as good as he first looked or more likely to me he is just is not getting home for the mile.

My GA is only just inside good and with a load of steadily run races , we need to allow for those EC i think

So if you do, it looks to me like jocks decription of good fast ground , official going description of good was probably spot on

Just noticed that Criag Theake in his 'trends' column in the RP only put up two horses today -
Henrythenavigator, and Off the Record for the 4,00 - won at 25/1 :what:
Very well done to him, and food for thought for those who don't reckon trends mean anything

agree Charlie

Galileo..The winner was well suited to Good ground beforehand from what I can see so would have just about perfect conditions...ground was nowhere near slow today...which he wouldn't want agreed

RP definately needs top of ground...but I also would not be convinced a mile is his trip..no real opinion on his run today..maybe he could have run a bit better but whether it was ground or trip..combination of both...we won't know until more races

Fantastic race, two very good colts pulling nicely clear. And Ballydoyle have no good three year olds eh? Your theory about Plan was clearly wrong Headstrong, clearly they felt he had the right to turn up - and as Sheikh said he showed plenty of promise for a horse that will be best at 10 furlongs.

Fine, it was a good run - but it doesn't change my point that if you think you can *win the race with something else*, why not run Plan in something a little less competitive and give him a chance of winning again rather than having a hard Group 1? Horses win more when they build up confidence! - and hard races leave their mark esp at that stage of a career. I grant he may have been showing much more on the gallops than we'd seen so far

I agree [with Sheikh was it?] that if Manning had kicked on much sooner and forced a stronger pace then he probably wouldn't have been caught. I found it quite heart-breaking really - and I didn't even back him!

Pretty well agree with that -0.67. On the slower side of Good, likely to be on the quicker side of good tomorrow if the rain stays away

It's noticeably clouded over up here and they are expecting rain tonight in the area, acc the local forecast

I think NA got the best "trip" of all the horses in the race...and still got caught...if he had gone any harder he may have come back more at the end...so I can't see that the jockey could have done more...no they didn't go hard early but they didn't go a silly crawl either...I thought he gave the NA every chanceof running the finish out of these tbh...it was a wind up ride from about 3 out which to me was perfect for NA...the horse just got caught by a true miler with a great turn of foot on the day.

think the wind may have slowed them a bit Warbler do you think?

my view would be Good ground..but on the slower half of it

if no rain..it can dry very quick there...Good...faster half tomorrow...if it rains then good to soft or worse tomorrow

I think Henrythenavigator was the best horse on the day but also a lucky winner,
he came through horses with an impossible better ride by Murtagh and got pass the runner up in the right moment because the other was fighting back at him in the last yards.

New Approach run a very good race but looks more a 10-12f horse.

Just looking at the replay, Fortune was not that unlucky...he had to go around one horse wider than Henry did.

I agree with Suny Murtagh had an amazing amount of luck and got to the front at the right time.Thats not to take away from the performance of the winner-I wonder if he will end up running in the Breeders Cup Mile.

I wouldnt put anyone off backing Henrythenavigator for the guineas. I think he will prove to be Ballydoyles No. 1 in time, and think that he is a good back to lay come the day...without trying to rhyme...

Worth a few bob at 42s.
Im not trying to be smug....

Ok i am.. :shy:

I have been meaning to back him for a while. Think a score each way might be the order of the day.
Of course I didn't.

I don't think it was a great Guineas. But I think the front two will go on to win a good few Group 1s betwen them.

Whoever made the point about Henry's breeding; it is absolutely beautiful. He is out of Sequoyah, who produced a filly who placed in the Irish Guineas and Oaks a few years back.

What are the chances of Henry -

a) staying 10f
b) being tried on dirt
c) acting on dirt?
