just read about jim - what a shame ! for obvious reasons we followed him ever since.

Been mentioned elsewhere, and certainly more than a terrible shame:

Willyanwoody + Granit Jack both died in action in Cheltenham

Awful loss of two young talents

Horrendously sad and sudden end for Granit Jack who was jumping superbly well and full of running and yet the next second lay dead at my feet. Tough to cope with.

By the sounds of things Iktitaf is really fighting for his life. Racing career is definitely finished so lets hope he at least survives for a retirement.

As for Cork All Star its a positive sign that he aint drifting on betfair etc or that is usually open trainer has not announced anything so maybe it is just a rumour.

James Willoughby wrote a great piece in the RP today regarding the compromises we make supporting racing and how we have to accept the death of these horses. A super read and a great piece.

Thanks for sharing the wonderful photo, UG. If only we had been celebrating GJ's win instead of his demise. That's racing unfortunately.

Rindoon has been lost following a fall at Punchestown... cry

Absolutely gutted and the weekend has been completely spoiled from a racing point of view, at least for me...

Red Devil Robert has died in a freak accident as home (totally unrelated to the injuries that kept him out of action).

Loads of rumours that Cork All Star is out for the season.
Has anyone else heard anything about this? [/b][/quote]
Forget it, the horse worked fine earlier in the week at Punchestown.

Detroit City became the second high-profile fatality within a week when the Philip Hobbs-trained grey tragically suffered a bad fall at Ascot.

Owned by Terry Warner, the five-year-old was bidding to redeem a tarnished reputation after disappointing in the Champion Hurdle and at Aintree at the end of last season.

Detroit City had previously won eight straight races, including the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle and Boylesports International, as well as the Cesarewitch on the Flat.

Partnered by Richard Johnson, he made a slight error at the first flight of hurdles before taking a crashing fall at the second.

Detroit City's untimely end meant racegoers endured another bad loss for the second consecutive weekend after Granit Jack died in the Paddy Power Gold Cup seven days ago.

Why does Rodney Masters on the RP site claim that he "died instantly" when he blatantly didn't?
