Yes but Tessanoora got the bump then slid around all over the place, trying to regain her feet whilst unable to do so. Cloone River also looked to have slid over as well.

Bay Story's bid for glory in the Lavazza Long Black at Flemington ended in tragedy as he broke down during the race.

The five-year-old has missed out on the Emirates Melbourne Cup but tackled the 14-furlong contest instead.

Brian Ellison's charge was second with less than a furlong to go when he broke his near hind leg, sending jockey Mark Zahra crashing to the turf before Bling Bling ran into him.

Zahra was taken to hospital for precautionary X-rays on his leg and ankle while Bling Bling's rider Greg Childs was also stood down from his remaining mounts and will undergo checks on his neck.

Bay Story had been campaigned in Australia since October 2006, placing in three of his seven starts including a second in the BMW Perth Cup.

This is a really terrible story as poor Brian Ellison had already suffered in Aus from the accident to Carte Diamond at exercise before the 2005 Melbourne Cup; the vets subsequently refused to let the horse participate in 2006.

Bay Story, whom he originally took over mainly as company for Carte Diamond last year, was previously in training with Mark Johnston. He won his last race at Newbury in July 2005, and had raced for Gainsborough as a juvenile. His distressed owners had flown out to Australia to watch him run last week, in the hope he'd make the cut for the Cup. I accidentally found a photo of the immediate aftermath on a website last night when trying to discover what happened - it was most distressing. Bling Bling was knocked out by the collision and is shown out cold on the track - luckily she later got up, apparently unscathed. Poor Bay Story is shown crashing half-upright through the wooden railings, just like Carte Diamond. Maybe now they will try to find a solution to a safer track barrier over there

Both jockeys were taken to hospital, Zahra having been quite badly injured inc by splinters in his legs, and both had to give up their rides in the Cup..

Is Mark Zahra ok or any update on him?Rode for summer in Fanshawes with him when he was staying with Kerrin McEvoy, lovely guy and very talented jockey.

One of my favourite horses in training :(

ALEXANDER TANGO, winner of the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes at Belmont Park on September 8 for trainer Tommy Stack, has been killed in a freak accident while in quarantine in Kentucky.

Fozzy Stack, son of the filly's trainer, said Tuesday: "The accident happened during the night. The filly was out in a paddock at Woods Edge Farm, which is owned by Paul O'Callaghan, a nephew of Alexander Tango's owner, Noel O'Callaghan, when something frightened her and she jumped rails, fatally injuring herself."

Stack added: "It is a shame, as she was such a good filly, and we were all looking forward to racing her again next year."

Alexander Tango, a daughter of Danehill Dancer, won four of her 12 starts.

She won over 7f at the Curragh in 2006 before enjoying a successful three-year-old campaign, during which she landed the Group 3 Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas over 1m at Leopardstown, the Listed Kilboy Estates Stakes over 1m1f at the Curragh, and the aforementioned Grade 1 over 1m1f in the US.

On what proved tobe her final start, she finished seventh of nine in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes over 1m2f, also at Belmont, three weeks after her career-best success at the same track.

Dubai World Cup winner Almutawakel euthanized

Euthanized due to chronic arthritis.. He was only 12 :(

Grey Paint of David Pipe's yard I am sure is dead after a horrendous fall. :(

One of the worst I have seen, Martin. It didn't help as the camera stayed on the horse as it was a fall in the straight and the cameras were head on.

Also a mention to the two jockeys Tom Scudamore and David Boland both taking a fall at that fence. They are both now on their way to hospital. Fingers crossed they are both OK.

David Boland apparently was knocked unconscious and Tom Scudamore may have either a dislocated shoulder or a broken arm.

Sad to report that Lord Rosskit, 3rd in the novice chase at Hexham was so badly struck into that he had to be put down shortly after the race.

Didn't want to tempt fate by saying so at the time, but Battlecry is fine after pulling up on Saturday.
