A Great Weekend in Dublin

my flight

from London Stansted (STN) to Dublin (DUB)
Sun, 25Jan09 Flight FR 207 Depart STN at 09:35 and arrive DUB at 10:50

best way to go straight to Leopardstown?

Given the price of a taxi just the one way, I'd be tempted to hire a car, depending on what you are doing after racing

I had one for 3 days for c£65 last time I went over, but addmitedly that was 3/4 years ago now and the exchange rate was much better. There are several car-hire outlets at the airport.

So whats the plan of attack folks? What time do people think they will be in Navan? Is there a meet up point? Secret Handshake? Password?

suny, a Marquis such as you can afford a cab. Don't hire a car, its just hassle. The Aircoach is a little slower than a cab, but costs only €16 return course - airport. Make sure you ask the driver where he is going - you are looking for the SANDYFORD bus.

Geraoid and Grey

Can yiz PM your mobile numbers please.

Cryptic pick up codes;

Grey, garage at dead mickey opposite hotel 10.30 and Gearoid has a woodie at 10.50.

Tickets in the office under Grey's name. I'm picking up from the airport early but if there are delays with flights it could cause problems. but aiming to be there for 11 or 11.30. First race is 1pm. We are supposed to have part of a suite but I'd say it might be the owners and trainers bar as it's pretty big. Entrance and beef roll included. Just take your ticket and leave the rest. See you tomorrow.

Whats Greys name?! is it actually grey?? Like Red from the shawshank redemption...??

Mention Talking Horses at the gate. PM Cantoris and an capall your real names.

Senor Caballo, I´ll text you.

It all kicked off in the O&T bar after the bumper. We were obviously all flush betting on my tip, and then Gearoid bet Galileo €500 that Sergio Gracia would easily beat Roger Federer in a game of snakes and ladders..... have to go, more later.

Willie Mullins is such a name dropper although I could have sworn he said "Hello Colin". Easy mistake to make of course.

Just got back to Dublin town centre, will post a bit more when I get home tomorrow, but just to say a big thank to everyone for a most enjoyable weekend.

Some real lightweights in the drinking department, one stood out above all. The forum would be shocked...

Wanted to give them a second chance today, but yeah An Capall, Gearoid, Headstrong, Betsmate,Del Boy, Hezz, Suny Bay, Grey, Cantoris, Arkwright etc all a shower of insufferable bores....

I had every intention of going racing today at 8PM last night; by 8AM this morning that plan was clearly not in any way feasible...

How did it go anyway? I assume a good time was had by all!

Just home from Dublin, absolutely wrecked!!! Had a great time though in fairness, all credit to Grey and Cantoris, made it a brilliant weekend, thanks a million guys!

Brave Inca winning today really made it a weekend to remember, we had talked the race through so many times and gone through nearly every runner so thoroughly that i thought Inca was a good thing, nice when it comes together like that. Superb animal, one in a million really.

Navans racing fare was poor in fairness, but it was a good oppurtunity to put names to faces and have a bit of craic. Quite a touch landed in the bumper by a few, sent the price crashing from 4/6 to 4/9 in minutes...amazing scenes for 30 minutes after the last race with people still being paid out.

On to Dublin, and although myself and Hezz couldnt make the meal, we managed to join up with the rest in the nightclub....i think its fair to say it was an....eh.....jaw dropping experience.....some of the art work was breath taking... Betsmate was very impressed with the place, and Cantoris, well he just had a big smile on his face all night, must have really been looking forward to today!

I think i got a taxi home with 4 others, but none of them can confirm my presence....which is worrying......for me and them....cos im pretty sure i was there!!

Todays racing was superb, well done to Gal and Betsmate who flagged up the first winner, Betsmates in depth knowledge of the French form and the relevance of this horses proximity to Soumi was vital in finding the winner! Forpaddytheplaster nearly made hezz's week, and quite possibly anyone who was in Krystle or the surrounding area last night who was listening!Well dont to Gal who put up the winner of this too.Shrewd!

The main event was amazing, probably one of the best moments was when they were turning out of the back and the commentator announced that Brave Inca and Hardy Eustace were going head to head....how many times have we heard that. When he pricked his ears coming to the last i knew the race was won, and absolutely flew it. Amazing horse.

It was Hangovers all round really after that, and after last night, and after hangover unseated in front of the stand.....It almost measured up to the dissappointment of some Bootlegging gone wrong yesterday...

All that was left to do was to back the bumper winner, and of course this was not a problem given our resident bumper champ!! The only problem was getting the cash on, given that most of the bookmaking chaps were smarting from their fleecing at Navan following the bumper on Saturday....Several refused bets, more on the grounds that they hadnt the cash or assets to cover the combined liabilities...

All in all i thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, great putting names to faces. Brilliantly organised, all credit to Grey, absolute gent, Cantoris, top bloke, and An Capall, "Shrewd", all of whom were willing to drive and give lifts where neccessary. Good to meet the likes of Betsmate, even though he was drinking milk in Krystle...Galileo, thanks for the lift, and text us that July cup horse of O Briens, ive lost the name..Arkwright was snap happy as was Headstrong, im sure wel see evidence soon enough. Gearoid, well, he gave us a good 2nd place horse....paid 1.10 on the tote as well... as he said himself, "well you wouldnt get that rate in the bank"....

Also good to meet Sunnybay as well, good debate on the Aircoach as to what was Cheltenham material and whats not! May well have a few ante posts this week on the back of the conversation with him and Martin, at least i can point the finger of blame at someone else!!
