A Great Weekend in Dublin

The first race is at 13.20, Luke. If you were able to take the first train out of Waterford on the Sunday morning and then got a taxi from Heuston up to the Luas at Stephen's Green you would make it, I reckon.

Is Distant View a Winning Ways member? In attendance?

I will certainly be at Leopardstown on Sunday and will be bout on Saturday night for drinks. Not certain re Navan yet as it depends on what the betting opportunities are like at Cheltenham etc.

Copied form post 93, of ocurse things may have changed

I found a single for €60 with breakfast at the Clifton Court, Eden Quay, just along the same bank of the river as the Winding Stair. Their official booking site shows no vacancies but they assured me yesterday they did have more rooms esp twins -
Cantoris kindly found me the direct tel number which is 0035 31 874 3535
You will speak to Tahir, and there is also an email cliftonhotel@gmail.com

I do like to be central - and you can't get much more central than that!
- and they even have live Irish music at weekends in the bar
(I know - but I am a tourist) http://www.cliftoncourthotel.com/

Cantoris also suggested a good b&b but I;ve dleeted that pm, quite close to the nightclub, maybe he can help

Weather is a worry. Gowran Park are very worried about Thursday. Rain/Snow is meant to ease up by the weekend but then frost becomes a worry.

Got a room booked with Bewleys in Leop for the €50. Couldnt do it on their website but got it done over the phone no problem. Thanks for the help everyone. Looking forward to the weekend.

Sorry to be a party pooper, but I'd be amazed if one or both of these meetings survived. It is absolutely tanking down here at Leop.

I'd be surprised if Leopardstown went due to waterlogging. The forecasts seem to be predicting only light rain or the odd shower on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. With Leopardstown's good drainage, a couple of dryish days should be enough.

Granted the same forecasts have today as dry and cloudy.

I was talking to the manager in Navan today and he wasn't worried about racing being on Sat.If they are going to race anywhere, its Navan!!

I was chatting to Colm earlier and it was raining heavily in wexford and he thought Gowran would prob be a gonner tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

THE Turf Club has announced that there will be a 7.30 am precautionary inspection at Gowran Park ahead of the scheduled fixture on Thursday, 22nd January due to the threat of further rain overnight. The course is currently raceable with the ground described as heavy.

For those arriving into Dublin on Sat morning, I will see you at 9.30am in the bar to the left once you come out of arrivals. My mobile is 00353 86 8 5 4 3 7 0 5.

See you then

my flight

from London Stansted (STN) to Dublin (DUB)
Sun, 25Jan09 Flight FR 207 Depart STN at 09:35 and arrive DUB at 10:50

best way to go straight to Leopardstown?

Two options:

(1) Aircoach from the airport to Bewleys Hotel in Leopardstown. Get off at the Sandyford Luas stop (last one before the hotel) and hop on the courtesy racecourse bus (check with the racecourse that they are still doing it). Aircoach takes from 50 mins to 80 mins to get from airport to Sandyford, depending on traffic and number of passengers getting off the bus before you. Cost is €7 one way or €12 return. Aircoach is big blue bus and goes from outside the front door of arrivals on left hand side of road. You won't miss them.

(2) Taxi - through the city will set you back €45-50 but takes about 40 mins if traffic is light which it should be on a Sunday. Or he can take the main ring road around the city. It's longer (€60) but faster. I do it in 25 mins at 6am when heading for the airport and 35 mins in the evening in heavier traffic but its moving. Would be a safer option if your flight was delayed. Asked the driver if the M50 is clear of traffic or accidents first.

Chase races at Navan on Saturday have been abandoned and as a result one of the five remaining races will be divided to make a six race card.
