Aintree

stayers never get credit Grass do they?..a strange reverse world really..if a hurdler wins at 2 miles..no one is remotely interested in knowing if they stay 3 miles..if a chaser wins 30 races at 2 miles .he's not a good horse until he wins at 3m+

It's not really anything to do with him moving up to 3m, EC1. He was constantly talked-down when he was running over 2m and 20f - despite him having cast-iron G1 form at both trips.

HF's form was crabbed due to him "only ever beating Solwhit". Both horses have proven such sentiments to be wholly misplaced.

solwhit is a lot better at 3m imo...never rated him much at shorter tbh.

worse things were said about Celestial Halo;)

they were misplaced

Solwhit's form at 2-miles against Hurricane Fly (plus that he displayed whenever HF was off with a sick-note) very-much suggests otherwise, EC1 - it's out of the top-drawer. There's very-few horses I can recall who have ever displayed form as good as Solwhit, at trips from 2 miles to 3 miles. Very few indeed.

Point-taken partially taken re Celestial Halo. As I said after the World Hurdle, he is far from the dodge-pot I suggested he was a season-or-two back......but it's also true that he was 160 at his very best.

just looking at his run in the CH and the WH..he looks a lot better in the WH..and today..imo

obviously the oppo at 3m is a lot easier than he met at shorter..so probably not as much in it as the eye might suggest..his rating at both must be similar would have thought..maybe just higher at 3 miles?

no doubt a very consistent horse..just never caught my imagination..i like him more at 3 miles..just personal view really

He has to be 165+ at all three trips, imo - with as you say, perhaps not much in it, in terms of his rating at each.

Shame that injury might prevent Solwhit and Big Buck's ever meeting. It would be some race if they manage to face-off next season.

The difference in their respective styles would make for exciting watching, and both would be meeting a genuinely top-class hurdler for the first time, over a 3m trip. We'd learn a lot, I reckon.

Solwhit
very good run today (163+) in my figs
he was a 166 at his best in the past

what is surprsing for me is not the up in trip , it is that he is running so well after an injury on good ground , when he was healthy he was a soft ground horse.

Good horse but miles behind Big bucks, Limestone Lad, Baracouda or Iris Gift

he would have no chance against Mighty Man at Aintree either
