Aintree

In my hole he did.

He quickly went clear, and put no more daylight between himself and Overturn from not-even halfway up the run-in (and he was in receipt of 4lbs too).

I'll put a marker on that race for you. Brampour.

There you are. Pick the bones out of that one. :D

I'm not disputing the fact that Grandouet isn't capable of high-class form on his day. But not only is he a dubious stayer, he gets turned-over every time he meets good horses. He's the biggest prime-time mincer since Larry Grayson was running The Generation Game (note to trackside: Barkchibald excepted ;) :D)

I'd take him on in this company, over this trip, any day of the week.

I dont understand your brampour point?he came third in that race aye?

Brampour is a total mutt, fonz, though I was mainly using that fact to yank Euro's chain a bit, and nothing more.

Just on that race, and Overturn. Has there ever been a horse involved in more confusing/contradictory/WTF hurdles formlines than this yoke?

Euro....you on the Rays bandwagon yet?

I remember liking Grandouet when he first appeared on the scene and colin philips quickly stated he didnt like the way he travelled. Fair play to him and in a battle with the New One, who i simply cannot take on, can see just one winner.

I see,i wouldnt argue with the mutt point thas for sure.Given the fact that zarkander has finished ahead of grandouet 3 times now, would you back him to finish ahead of him onb thurs, and would grandouet have finished ahead in the champ?i would be on hendos charge on both occasions.

Zarkander will just be getting up to full-tilt when Grandouet is reaching for the handy-andies.

If Grandouet can't beat Zarkander at 2m, he has no chance of beating him at this trip, which will suit him (Zark) much better than even a stiff 2m, imo. As for the Champion Hurdle, I'd again want to be on Zark for similar stamina reasons.

Take Overturn out of the 2011 Bula (run over two years ago) and Grandouet has beat nothing of note his entire hurdling career. A couple of well-handicapped Greatwood winners, and that's about it.

He is all mouth and no trousers, and will get chinned at Aintree - same as what happens every other time he meets top-class animals.

if grandouet was ever gonna get the better of zark i think it'd be on a track such as aintree. and i think he would have had his number in the juvenile race a few moons ago before he was unluckily brought down when going very well 2 or 3 out.

the extra 4 furlongs raises the question mark. if it was a 2m race i'd be all over grandouet under these conditions. as it is it's a bit of a quandry.

Consider this.

Walters could quite easily have wanted McCoy up on Oscar Whisky, and McCoy could quite easily have jumped at the chance. He has ridden regularly for the owner over the years when he's been available (and sometimes when he really hasn't been) - the Geraghty/Grandouet partnership isn't necessarily a down to jockey choice....or at least, not necessarily Geraghty's.

Brampour was a late 150s animal last year. He won the Greatwood off 149 and ran ok in the Betfair off an excessive mark of 161. He was over raced last season and is feeling the effects this.

I accept the point re Grandouet victims but he's lightly raced and hasn't had a whole lot of opportunities against the best. He has also beaten Rock on Ruby. I think his freshness heading into this race is absolutely key. Zarkandar fell in this last season after two quick runs and Countrywide Flame has been on the go for ages and is due a poor run.

Has had his chances

If he'd finished behind Zarkandar in the Champion I would agree with this but he deserves another as he was travelling so well when he departed. I don't understand the rampant negativity about a 9/2 shot in a race with a novice trading as favourite and others who have had hard seasons.

Grandouet certainly has the looks.

And he certainly appears to have put in a few superficially-good performances.

But when the chips are down, he gets fanny-fright.

The equine Rock Hudson.

No stamina concerns Euro? Could you make a solid case how a step up in trip will suit a doubtful stayer over something like Zarkandar?

His run in the Bula over only three furlongs shorter on a far stiffer track. I don't see where it's set in stone that Grandouet is a doubtful stayer and Zarkandar is guaranteed to excel over a trip. The latter might just be the hurdles version of First Lieutenant.

I'm pro Grandouet for this. He would've served Hurricane Fly his arse in the CH and is good value to make amends here. 9-2 is a solid price and I'll be aiming to win what I would've won at Cheltenham.

I cant believe he would have beat the fly in the champ i actually backed him at 10.00 with a view to laying him at 2.8 thinking he would conk out either coming up to or after jumping the last.having said that id still fancy him to finish ahead of zarkandar on spring ground.

Time for your medication methinks, Benny.

Chop, chop. :D

Jesus Grass you have almost a homophobic obsession against the beautiful male Grandouet! OW has run like an absolute drain the last time out and not a huge pile better previously. Like a lot of Oscars maybe his wind has gone against him as he gotten older. TNO has had too much racing for me and has maybe 8lb to find. TS would need a Lazarus style comeback to feature after his mainly shite runs this year. Zarkandar ran a blinder in CH and was not beaten that far but was trained to the minute and this is an afterthought. Grandouet fresh, classy spring horse...9/2 has been taken rather heavily.

I have had a few, but is this your way of comparing Grandouet and I?
