Aintree

Great race.

Not the kind of race I'd want to have had for The New One as a novice but the Twister always goes a step too far.

Zarkander tough as you like.

Grandouet didn't even stay 2m1 in the end!

Probably a better Aintree Hurdle than the last few.

Great race, and don't forget Thousand Stars was closing on the front two at the line and looks in great shape to defend his hurdles crown in France.

Grandouet is not top class

End of

very strange conclusion. He came out the best horse in the race at the weights in the Bula to today's winner, so if anything he looks a better horse, just not a 2m4 horse. He clearly is top class.

When I mentioned that I liked grandouet after one of his first runs it was Colin Philips who quickly pointed out that he didn't like his style of running and he would flatter to deceive. He was right.

The new one is very tough and classy. Maybe if he hadn't had quite such a season he would have got up today but nothing lost in defeat. Fair play to the winner. Could he go world hurdle next year?

Nicholls already said this morning he will go that route so it's probably nailed on. Could he not jump a fence though?

True links. I'm not one to harp on about rides but there's a sense he could have been delivered a lot more cannily

I disagree.

A good horse no doubt

Top class.. no chance

But there are lines of form which say he would have been expected to finish 2nd in the Champion. If you don't think he is top class, then you would need to say Hurricane Fly is probably slightly short of that himself.

nicholls has said the plan is 3m at some point. wonder if they'll wait till big bucks retires though. which could be next season anyway tbh.

the new one is a fantastic prospect but you could say he has had a hard season now. hope it doesn't take it's toll down the line.

With both Hendo's runners going out like lights in the first, followed by Grandouet and Oscar Whisky, I'm wondering if there's a problem about to surface.

I'm going to the bank now to get more cash to back Cue Card w/o tomorrow

"How much would you like to withdraw Sir?"

"Everything"

How many lbs superior do you think Huricane is to Grandouet?

Do you think Grandouet is a better horse over 2 miles than Zarkandar?

If Grandouet is top class why are they even considering sending him chasing next season?

I hope it doesn't take it's toll. It is good to see trainers taking other horses on with their best. He'll be put away now I would have though until Haydock next winter and then we'll only see him at Cheltenham after that. Let's hope he improves as he looks a fantastic prospect.

Maybe 3/4.

Fingers crossed that I'm desperatly wrong in the Foxhunters, but it looked to me as though Battlefront had collapsed out the back. Fingers crossed he gets up OK.
