Aintree

Pires intrigues me in the 415 and I wonder if today is the day.I have always kept an eye on him on account of it being the most expensive horse ever to race for the Tony Martin stable. To my eye he looks to have improved over the last year while giving the impression he would prefer nice ground.
Don't expect to see him until late on.

Waley Cohen gave Cottage Oak no chance by rushing him up after that terrible start.

Those re-starts are a nightmare when they try to get them going from a standing start. Make them go back and walk in otherwise one or two are going to get left behind.

How many lbs superior do you think Huricane is to Grandouet?

Do you think Grandouet is a better horse over 2 miles than Zarkandar?

If Grandouet is top class why are they even considering sending him chasing next season?
,

It's no good being top class over hurdles if he can't last 2m at Cheltenham, 2m over fences shouldn't be a problem.

Didnt have a bet, and not sure if Ive ever had a bet on the horse, but jesus, L'Oiseau de Nuit is one of my favourites in training. Comes alive in those races where its balls out from flag fall at the festivals. In there pitching when its toughness almost brutal competition. Must be an joy to own.

Interesting race...I had intended to get dug into Captain Conan, but was put off by the stable form.

Actually went close to backing the winner of the Foxhunters, but decided on Boxer Georg instead.

Disappointed with the campaigning of First Lieutenant. I think he could have gone close in the Gold Cup.

Glad to see First Lieutenant get a big chase, he deserved one after his performances all season.

A good performance from The New One in the hurdle but I don't think he'll beat Our Conor over 2 miles next season though.

A solid performance from Captain Conan, I'd say Henderson was mighty glad to get the win after some very disappointing runs earlier in the day.

Well done to Oiseau de Nuit winning the Red Rum under a big weight at 11 years old.

brings me back to a point i made on here a few months ago. obviously injury put paid to any cheltenham run in the end but given the form with first lieutenant in the hennessy & lexus i still think it was bad they weren't going to pitch tidal bay into the gold cup.

Just back from the course. Observations:

The "in" colour this year is purple. I cannot believe the amount of suits I saw in this colour.

I'm glad this is the last year of John Smith's sponsorship. I'm far from a big drinker but the sponsors make, Fosters and Strongbow all make me gag. Hopefully they'll have some Guiness next year.

Props to the ladies walking round in slinky dresses. I had a blazer and a big jumper on and was still freeezing.

I'm going to knock the tenner bets that are supposedly to pay for expenses on the head from now on. I would have gone nowhere near the likes of Tourab, Fago and Rolling Star if I was sat at home so why bother just because you are at the track. Muggy.

Highlight of the day (besides the lady walking round selling tobacco in the tightest pants ever) was First Lieutenant finally getting his head in front. Love that horse.

The Frankie and Benny's near the Old Roan station do a mean Eggs Benedict. Highly recommended.

I missed Dave G's PM because of this stupid taptalk thing which means I can't access the forum on my mobile anymore. What is that all about????

Taking football out of the equation Liverpool is a fine city with a very friendly vibe.

Can't possibly judge Grandouet on that run he was beaten 15 lengths and he's at the very least as good as Zarkandar as we saw in the International when he wasn't fully fit and gave him 4lbs.

Horse was never travelling with his usual enthusiasm at any point and one possibility in Nicky's rush to get him fit for the Champion Hurdle he's gone over the top? We can but guess how good he really is but unless Barry Geraghty is the worse judge on earth he would have gone close in the champion Hurdle.

However being good enough to finish close in this year Champion Hurdle won't be good enough next season imo. Hurricane Fly is sure to be still around and a certain little horse called Our Conor could be one of the best we've seen in some time. Others like Far West and My Tent Or Yours will come through the ranks and the latter is the most likely to be the one trying to fly the flag for Seven Barrows. The New One ran a cracker today for a novice. He could be a contender next season but I have severe doubts if he'll prove to be good enough.

NH had 4 serious horses in MTOY, Grandouet, Darlan and Binocular at the start of the season Everyone of them was capable of winning a Trial but the weather and other factors turned it into a mess and had him tearing his hair out.

Looks a certainty Grandouet will go chasing now to make way for My Tent Or Yours who looks certain to pick up a couple of trials as his main rivals are unlikely to be crossing the Irish Sea before March.
