Why retire him? If the treatment is appropriate and he can run again why not? I'm a real bleeding heart me, but I honestly don't think that retirement is yet a viable option, UNLESS tests show a serious issue that could cause real problems. After all it's rare that a horse has a heart attack (as in heart stopping, they don't have heart attacks like humans) though of course pulmonary or aortic ruptures are sadly seem more often. I'm not a vet but can't think why a heart beat issue would cause a rupture....actually just asked my consultant dr BIL. No it wouldnt. All an dodgy rhythm would do is to make the horse not preform well.
Just my view.
all's well that ends well.PA Stables @PA_Stables
Sprinter Sacre is expected to arrive back at Nicky Henderson's yard later today after his heart problem righted itself.
Nicky Henderson tells Racing UK “If we can’t get him back for the Queen Mother, it is pointless coming back."
Perfectly normal heart rate today, according to Celia Marr a short while ago.
So it must have been something else caused the event. Wonder what?
was he got at? Masking agents well ahead of the testers etc.
Can someone tell me a plausible reasoning for stopping/drugging Sprinter Sacre?
Exactly.
To get his handicap mark down or something? WTF
