Ante-Post Punting Plans/Propositions Thread.

Does anybody know if anyone of influence has put up Orazio for the Bunbury Cup?

He's shortened with a few firms today for the race, and even though it'll take some winning, with him entered in the International handicap and Stewards Cup, at least the market support today boosts my confidence that he will run at Newmarket.

A drop of rain nearer the time might help get the very best out of him too, although it was firm enough at Ascot and he flew home on that. I know his trainer feels he was taken off his feet early on in the Wokingham because of how firm it was though.

This looks one of my better ante post wagers, I'm hoping so anyway.

Taken a bit of a flyer on Lake Forest for the Lennox. He ran a very good race in the Jubilee considering it was his debut run of the year and I found it interesting that he's not in the July Cup. Stakes are low because the Maurice de Gheest is the Sunday after the Glorious meeting and that could be the plan but Tony Bloom part owns the horse and Goodwood is his local isn't it? He was very strong at the line at Ascot, and his pedigree suggests 6 is his very minimum trip.

I will need a second car next year as we will have a 5th driver and I will be last in line...my job is to buy not drive the ladies keep telling me...so I have lumped on at 11/1 Constitution Hill and Bedtime Story to pay a good chunk of ot

Brother called me to say he had 200 quid on Constitution Hill at 9/4 with PP.

They laid him and immediately cut the price to 2/1......fook me it's 8 months away had he asked for 2 grand it would be evens.

I've backed Elite Status at 4s in the Hackwood Stakes, not sure Regional should be fav. Lake Forest I'm on ap for the Lennox so not too happy to see him here, not sure he'll have the speed for a flat 6f. I may cover with him if he's declared, likely in a double with Big Evs for Goodwood who I'm building a position on via doubles with Opera Singer (Nassau) and one or two golfers this weekend. He'll Baattash like trade much shorter IR on the day.

Also like True Legend in the 2m handicap. He was on my tracker last year and earlier on this, took him off after his second at Goodwood over 1m6 but his very eye catching run in the Plate sort of proves he's still well handicapped. I don't get the front of the market in this race, Naqeeb is only there because he's a Haggas inmate.

Epic Poet is backable at 20/1 for the Ebor. That's simply too big, he was eye catching in the Magnet Cup as well as at the Royal meeting both from terribly unpromising positions and you'd have to hope he'd get a big more luck over the longer trip.

Just noticed this and I agree. I got 4s on Thursday but shat out of the heavy win bet because my figures are a bit out of kilter with others'. Instead I wimped into a more modest each-way Hippocratic punt.

I looked again this morning with a fresh head and decided my figure for his win this season is sound enough and if he goes and wins as I hope (ie easily) he'll be slashed for the Haydock Sprint Cup so I've backed him at that at 14/1.

The bottom line is that if he runs a big race today, ie placed but looking good, he might be cut for Haydock anyway so that would be my baseline hopes. The win today would be a bonus on both fronts.

Job done today, Euro, and into 6s for Haydock.

Yeah that was nice. 6s is fair, I think the 3yo sprinters are decent...Vandeek would have won the July Cup imo if he'd been in the same part of the track as Mill Stream.

He was very impressive, 20s has gone though now.

I've taken a possie on the Arc, can't have the fave on pedigree grounds (Lope de Vega as far as I can tell has never sired much at 12f). White Birch is too big as is Delius.

I'm also chancing Saint Roi in the Galway Plate at 14s. He ran well at Punchy behind the well handicapped Pinkerton and this will be his first go at a trip. Problem is JP has the first and second favs but Saint Roi hasn't really the type of unexposed profile where he won't be off.

Any views on the big handicap at Ascot on Saturday coming, guys?

Some early confirmations through soon, with final declarations on Thursday of course.

I think United Approach is an interesting colt. He's been too keen in recent races. He could prove to be a lot better, if he settles in a big field off a strong pace. That's my thinking.

I did my absolute bollox on Orazio ante post for the Bunbury Cup. I hope they keep taking him out of these handicaps. I know if I back something else Orazio will come back to haunt me.

I'm on Billyjoh at 10s. Look at his profile and then compare it with York specialist Tolstoy. Both completely exposed at 6f and then massively improved when stepped up to 7.

I'm also mulling over Bluestocking for the KG. I think the fav is very beatable but I have a suspicion that the filly is maybe better over 10.

I don't think the 5-days will be published until mid-late afternoon today so would not want to be going in right now just in case. I'd have to admit to being quite taken with Aalto's win in the Bunbury and he'll be 4lbs well in under a 3lbs penalty. I'll probably get big enough odds about Bless Him on the day and I imagine Carrytheone will be over-bet, especially if Moore get the gig.

Orazio still in with Willie Buick booked to ride.

How can I plan to back anything else? I'll be waiting til Thursday though. Lost three figures on the Bunbury Cup.

I'm not worried about BH's age. He ran a very promising race first time up and things haven't gone his way in his two subsequent races (Ascot and Newmarket big races). I think if they thought he was in decline they'd be picking up decent Class 3 pots off big weights. My concern is that Frank tends to get the ride and he's just as likely to make a complete arse of it as get it right. He's a percentage jockey who banks of them going too fast up front. If they do he can look genius; if they don't he can end up looking like a fanny.
