AP McCoy

This whole McCoy thing is tiresome , he's got the personality of a potato and he's not even in the top 5 riders in terms of ability in the weighing room

people who expect sportsmen to be celebrities are themselves a product of the modern age imo..brought up on the celebrity mentality...how old are you Frogman?......i'll guess 14-22

they are sportsmen...they don't need sparkling personalities..its boll0x to suggest they need to be anything but good at what they do

i can't believe the misery on this board

McCoy's achievement ranks as one of the greatest in any sport from any era and possibly one of the greatest human achievements full stop.

He is also no stranger to unheralded charity work and I'm sure he would readily cite the plight of others less fortunate as his inspiration to test his talents to the limit in thanksgiving for those talents.

The man is a phenomenon.

Just think about the number of "yaks" (to quote Ted Walsh) that he has ridden and won on down the years Monday through Sunday week in week out.
He is no Carberry but Carberry is no McCoy and no one else is either.
J S Bolger once said A P would never make a jump jockey when A P had broken his leg at Coolcullen. Has JSB got high standards or what ?

Well said, what McCoy has achieved is astonishing.

He has been champion 18 times in an era when riding standards have never been higher. How many other jump jockeys do you know who have even ridden so many seasons?

McCoy's feat is on a par with Hilary's conquest of Everest, generally reckoned one of the greatest human achievements of all time.

The moon landings? The guys just sat there and fiddled with some controls, monitored and advised by a big team of guys on computers.

I slowly warmed to McCoy over the years and having subsequently met the bloke I'd have to say he's a nice guy. A nice guy who's determination and sheer strength of will is almost without equal. 18 times champion jockey is frankly insane.

keep at it DO..you've already netted a couple;)

AP lies awake at night in bed thinking about Gloria Victis, Valiramix and Darlan.

good point Grey

its a good job mind you that he didn't do it in the 1960's when it were pi$$ easy..jockeys then just doin it part time..eating fatty breakfasts..pi$$ed every night...in fact National Hunt racing then was so easy to win at its unreal...an accountant could be top trainer in his lunch hour..horses could carry 20 stone and win as most horses had just come out the farmers field

The RP have been running a poll on his best ever ride; the Wichita lineman ride won it. But I've been racking my brains to remember the name of a horse he won a 4m chase on one day, pretty sure it was in the McManus colours and it was the ultimate McCoy ride IMO. It's been annoying me, so much so I'm now doubting whether it happened, so if anyone can remember it let me know!!

I wouldn't be a massive fan but it's a tremendous acheivements. The likes of Walsh and Geraghty will have to keep winning Champion Hurdles and Gold Cups to compensate for the lack of quantity.

Anybody who has read his book will know from excerpts like the pursuit of his wife that the man is made of pure determination.

Completely agree with the earlier post in that he grew on me, to the point that my admiration for him is immeasurable.

A legend, great attribute to the sport and regardless of his achievement, if he were to have a blank Cheltenham for example he would be a nightmare - so what ?, Ryan Moore (talented as he is) is moody even when he wins.

The old saying about "Show me a happy loser..."

How many jump jockeys ride 700+ races per season? The jumps title is about as much of an achievement as best turned out in a seller at Southwell. It's a pure numbers game, only AP, Johnson and recently Maguire can win. Good jockeys like Ruby Walsh sauntered over when it suited for proper rides on proper horses. McCoy sold his soul to land gambles at Towcester for JP.

Ryan Moore is twenty times more talented than McCoy.

the reason most don't ride as much as he does is that you will get injured quicker...riding lots of NH horses is to be applauded just in itself..sheer physical side alone

how you can use that as a negative is a mystery to me
