Arc 2016

Yesterday was a triumph for O'Brien but his behaviour towards a French TV interviewer afterwards was nothing short of ignorant. The chap clearly wanted to get O'Brien's post-race thoughts and went about it perfectly politely but all he (and we) got was the trainer looking down at his mobile phone, clearly reading and possibly also composing texts, totally distracted and not listening at all to the questions he was being asked, for all the world like some rude teenager. It was shown on the Racing Replay section on Racing UK last night and if he sees it again I hope he is suitably embarrassed. He needs to make his mind up after a race - he can be on his mobile or he can be available for interview but he can't be both.

Aidan O' Brien isn't ignorant -he is a essentially a quiet man who lives for his family and his profession.Whoever was on the phone was more important then the interviewer.

Not sure if I was the only one watching on the Sky Sports feed with Alex Hammond and Jason Weaver but the level of commentary was appalling - didnt even spot Found until she was clear! The tone during the whole race was enough to send you to sleep - and as for the L'Abbaye, only mentioned Masha and Washington DC in the last strides - wish I had watched it on my ATR ipad app now

Anyone who was watching and isnt a regular race goer would have been put off for life by the banality of the chatter - we only had it on waiting for the Ryder Cup! (We got rid of Sky completely last year - best thing ever did, and only order the sports stuff through NOWTV hence why we didnt have it on ATR proper)

He's a decent man by nature - I've said as much on here, more than once - but his behaviour on Sunday was at the very least discourteous. It's hardly an international/diplomatic incident in the great scheme of things but it didn't show him in a great light.

As for your final sentence, my son and daughter are no longer teenagers but I never let them get away with that line when they tried to get their mobiles out rather than engaging with the people in front of them at restaurants, family gatherings and so on. It's basic manners, as far as I'm concerned.

Some lads and lasses spend half their time playing their phones for facebook than taking my bets when I'm in the bookies these days!
Sign of the times, Gus.

Aiden is always straight onto the phone after a big win firstly to his mum and then usually john magnier next if he's not there plus probably derrick smith. Everybody in racing knows this and the American interviewer after st Nic won a few years ago joked about him multitasking. There is no one more polite in racing and considering the pressure he must be under that is saying something. The genuine joy from Paul smith and Michael tabor was great to watch.

Good man. I hate seeing people bring their phone out at social events.
