Bloodstock News

BRILLIANT stayer Westerner sired his first winner on Sunday when Times Square won a 1m colts newcomers race by a short head at La Teste Buch.

Spoken to someone today who told me that 27yr old Slip Anchor is happily enjoying his retirement since retiring from stud duties in 2006

I saw him awhile back before Plantation Stud was sold and the idea was to leave him there since he knew his surroundings. Do you know if he did stay there?

Encouraging to see the yearling sales hold up well in France yesterday....Darley have been very busy at Saratoga and they continued it yesterday at the Arqana Sales.

Hi Galileo. John Ferguson bought all those yearlings for Godolphin because Sheikh Moh bought Saratoga sales and to increase the sales revenue he purchased all those yearlings to make it look like Saratoga was the place to be Crazy. All he got in return was some very dear yearlings and 5 per cent of the sales not that it matters to him

It is good that Selkirk has come back as he is invaluable because he has no Northern Dancer in his bloodlines he is going to be a major Broodmare sire to come.Archipenko is superbley bred maybe only Sea the Stars is bred better.I cant see him being a major success at stud some how and he is not the going to be priced cheaply either.

Yeah fair point (noticeable how quiet Coolmore were at it too) - but they were busy at France as well though. Goffs and Tattersalls should be interesting - Coolmore have cut back in the last couple of season on their yearling spending with the Arabs going into over drive. Coolmore will need to be careful though as they will need to continue to support those breeders who use their stallions at the sales - Darley are clearly supporting their own very strongly now.

A couple of clever bloodstock advisors said that Singspiel whose fees were drastically cut would get another big win. So, well done to him on winning the Yorkshire Oaks with Dar Re Mi.

Coolmore are supporting yearlings by there sires at sales but are only supporting Galileo,Danehill Dancer,Montjeu and the odd Giants Causeway. They will have to start purchasing yearlings by Hurricane Run,Oratorio,High Chapperal and The Rock. They must support Holy Roman Emperor this season as his yearlings aren't selling especially well.

LUSH LASHES, one of last season's top performers, has been retired and will be offered as a broodmare prospect at Tattersalls December Breeding stock sale in Newmarket.

Is there any chance of adding "mare" to the title of this thread?

Thanks to whoever changed the title!

.......and there's millions of them

Anyone have a rule of thumb when trying to calculate what they're actually looking for a stallion as opposed to what they advertise the fee to be ?

GONE WEST, one of the most influential stallions of recent times, was put down on Monday evening after suffering complications from colic surgery. He was 25.

32 yearlings are consigned to the sale from Storm Cat’s last full crop, which numbers 56. Should be plenty of interest in these.

Would expect Sheikh Mohammed and Coolmore to be going at it as usual.
