Champion Chase 2020

Real Steel is a lovely horse but all his form is right handed. I'd have been interested in him for the King George but you've got a nice price to find out!
Yeah thats fair, his best form is right handed. But I'm convinced that's somewhat coincidental. If anything be jumps ever so slightly to his left. And in the JLT last year he was badly hampered early and never had a chance thereafter.

Don't think we can say yet that he can't win or run well at Cheltenham or left handed.

Also, I'm mainly financially invested in A Plus Tard 20/1 for the Ryanair, as is Euro, DJ and maybe a few others. The conversation was about best cover options to protect that bet and build a strong antepost position for the Ryanair. I put up Min 6/1 NRNB and Real Steel 20/1 as my cover bets.

20/1 Real Steel is a great price. Still don’t think he’ll beat Min or APT but 20/1 cover is no problem. Unfortunately I didn’t have similar thinking.

Can’t have Frodon at all for this. An ITV favourite. Take Frost off it wouldn’t even be a conversation. Won a dreadful renewal last year

Aside from the Stayers I think all the Championship races last year were below par and I'm against all the horses - Altior,Frodon,Al Boum Photo who won.

We didn't learn much today bar Footpad is finished. I'd be shocked if he isn't one of those horses that will never go deep again after bursting.

His future is confined to winning those softly contested Irish Grade 2 chases early in the season at Clonmel, Cork and Gowran.

Agree.

But the reason I'd go against ABP is the recent attrition record of the GC as opposed to something coming with endless potential

Might be the wrong year to take on a reigning Gold Cup winner. He has been given the Best Mate prep. Will take a good one to beat him.

Probably even more kid glove than bestie.

Willie isn't usually as easy going on his horses so I do wonder is he hard to train or else a bit delicate

Put up a big time rating at Tramore. Do not underestimate this beast. Having said that I expect the big matchup between Presenting Percy and Kemboy to provide the Gold Cup favourite I think Kemboy trounces them.

So pat Kelly is no longer viewed as a genius. Rightly so

But the PP dilemma

Is

1) The horse gone
2) just being trained for the GC exclusively
3) maybe just not as good as we thought post RSA
4) trainer bottomed him with a truly horrible campaigning last year

5) the RSA bottomed him, as it and the Gold Cup have done to many a horse

Looking to be the race of the festival now. Altior again impressive the way he picked up from the back of the last.
I'm favouring Defi but should be some race.

Was thinking the same - never been on the Wednesday before, but may have to go just to see this clash.

Personally think Defi Du Seuil will take all the beating and it's time for the new kid on the block to come to the fore.

I’m Defi’s number one fan, him having won me the Dark Horse comp as a 4yo so I shall have to be there and support him. Trouble is Altior isn’t far behind in my affections!

I’m so pleased Altior is back on track and the ridiculous experiment is over. He deserved to have his shot at immortality and by accident he will now get the chance.

I think it’s a tough one to call. If all three line up my heart will say Altior, but my head says Chacun Pour Soi. I still think that Hobbs may bottle it and Defi will go for the Ryanair.

The play in the Champion Chase is to back Altior in-running. Will be a double-figure price at some stage of the race, imo.
