Cheltenham 2020 / 2021

You don’t start at a Grade 1 track unless you have Grade 1 aspirations.

Wpm will keep Janidil and Asterion apart , one to Limerick the other Leopardstown.

Unexcepted will be campaigned with handicaps in mind later in season, a good jumper but his race in Tipp fell apart like Slim says. Not a G1 horse

Mullins has at least 6 other novices who could be grade one performers between 2m and 2m5:

Blakbow, Elixir D'ainay, Energumene, Five O'Clock, Klassical Dream, The Big Getaway.

That's actually really tricky to work out. Imagine how long it will take Willie...

The Big Getaway - National Hunt chase a player?
Klassical Dream - Arkle or nothing
Energumene - National Hunt Chase but - could make a case for the 3 races
Elixir D'ainay - Arkle only?
Blackbow - Couldn't nail him down for a race
Five O'Clock - Marsh but would admit I'm guessing

The Big Getaway - NH Chase or RSA if he can win a G1 in advance
Klassical Dream - minimum trip but meh
Energumene - Definitely handles soft and i think a trip will suit
Elixir D'ainay - He ran pretty well against Albert Bartlett horses last year, ownes 2nd string if minuimum trip
Blackbow - tempermental bugger. He takes a lot out of himself. 2 miles choke out but a good horse for the powers if they skipped Chelt
Five O'Clock - I'd say this is the NH horse. need 3m minimum

Not sure how you conclude Five O'Clock is a boat. Made Assemble look slow who just tried do serve it up to Envoi Allen on Sunday. They are talking about the clock likes he's a Grade 1 animal. We shall see.

He has a preference for soft which is a good starting point and they said after he ran over 2m 4 at Limerick that he needed another mile

3m minimum

I thought he was very unlucky in the Martin Pipe, almost on the floor, all sorts of scrimmaging..then sluiced through the field at the death!

Should have a better idea soon enough. Five O'Clock is entered over 2m and 2m4f this weekend, and holds entries over 2m4f and 3m at Christmas.

I watched Five O'clock's races back from last season yesterday evening and I don't think you'd want to be going back in trip with him.

He got two and a half easily, and was finishing as though he could go round again. On what I watched, I would assume over fences he either joins Monkfish in the RSA, or if Willie and Ricci want to keep them apart he steps up in trip for the NH Chase.

This is Willie though, so he's just as likely to run at Royal Ascot!!!

Yes precisely Max. That's why I backed him for the NH Chase rather than any race. He surely goes that way.

Ricci has only ran Point Alexandre in the NHC. I could be completely wrong but I think this horse will be far too good to run in the lets beat a novice to death Grade 2.

The recent record of winners in the Gold Cup, would suggest your description of the NH Chase is possibly a tad on the harsh side, pal.

It’s also dropped to 3m6f this year. Could make a difference to who gets to take their chance.

I can't think of much Ricci could have ran in it over the years to be fair Gearoid.

I agree with you with Five O'clock, I like him a lot, and I suspect we'll see him in the Gold Cup next season, but I don't think that means he can't/shouldn't run in the NH Chase.

I think taking 33/1 for the NHC was smart and if he is declared over 3m 1f then maybe I'll hold my nose and take the 25s. Either way I'll have been lied too if he's not very very good over fences!

I don't think you have. I've picked up the same and it's likely to be from different sources. They always knew he had an engine, but apparently he's electric over his fences.

Any word on Elixir D'ainay or Klassical Dream? Both entered up at Xmas but yet to be seen this season.

The abandoned Peterborough Chase from last weekend will now be run at Cheltenham on Friday

Despite NJH mentioning this as a possible for Altior he will wait for Xmas. Says he would have considered it if the race had been moved to Taunton instead like in 2017
