Trouble is you end up covering the whole meeting with huge perms,I did one at tonights meeting 6000+ bets big outlay especially when you're playing numbers game but still probably the only thing worth doing there..

Rocket ronnie

Rocket Ronnie hadn't run for over 3 months so ran respectably was running on 2 furlongs out but stopped in finish,he wouldn't have been involved at finish but would've been only beaten maybe 3ls so decent run for new trainer Ed Mcmahon. He's now down to a mark of 70 lowest mark since august 2013 when winning back to back races and has been as high as 84,this was also aw debut so even more encouraging the sire Antonius pius plenty of winners on poly but more interesting just 11 runners on tapeta with 3 winners and an roi of 245%.A lot of his form has been on right handed tracks so will presumably be aimed at Kempton but with the wolves surface sire stats looking to have started well he should be ok there as well, thoroughly unexposed on the aw he has plenty of turf form even from last season that points to him being able to win races and off this mark can even take a drop in grade...

Spowarticus
Black dave

A poor race but for grade not to bad and decent time, almost 1/2 second quicker than the first div won by point north, spowarticus is only rated 54 so looks well handicapped still all about pace so still open to improvement he can even drop in grade so should win more races. The most interesting runner was b;lack dave very suspect like by egan when the gap appeared and not wanting to finish in the frame, was pretty laughable surprised he never got pulled in as never touched the horse it was similar last time out as well so obviously either waiting for drop in weights or back up to 7fs.Not one for taking short prices but he looks a surefire future winner, quite interesting graham lee got loads of stick in this race for switching the horse inside yet egan rode no finish whatsoever on this one goes totally unmentioned...

Fastest race this season in this grade and still working out!!!

Ruban

A 6yr old maiden with just 6 lifetime runs, the switch to fibresand showing a decent level of form sire dubawi so no reason not to keep him on the surface hacking up by 6ls,he could even drop back a furlong looking at the way he won this race. The time catches they eye slightly the track running on the slow side but ythis mile maiden was very similar standard time to the 7f race run by kung hei fat choy, the reasonable handicap on the card,it will be interesting to see oif the 6yr old repeats this form and progresses as had obviously had problems. It's difficult to give him a rating as he won so easily or even guess potential just looks an interesting runner to watch out for, think it would be harsh to get much of a rise for this win as there was little behind, currently off 74...

What do you think of his chance today Andy, has looked unlucky on last 2 runs and horse he beat Trimoulet here has hacked up last twice over further, that horse will go up another 5/6 lbs to 76, Starfield has risen a huge amount up the h'cap but interestingly ran virtually the same time as Ruban when the ground was officially st/slow carrying 7lb less. Ran 2 1/2 secs faster over C/D previously when beating Toto Skyllachy 5 lengths when carrying similar weight to Ruban.
Really don't know how on earth you clockwatchers evaluate between these performances. My opinion would be that Ruban getting a stone from Starfield would give him the edge. Any thoughts welcome from Giggs and EC1 especially as the renowned time experts here!

I am in the process of getting Southwell section friendly so i can only go on final time Stew

When Ruban won his speed figure on my cals was 79..the track was 9lb slow that day.

Worth bearing in mind that Trimoulet has shown improved form stepped up in trip..so he might have struggled for pace behind Ruban.

When Starfield ran the similar time to Ruban [4 jan] the track was riding 17lb slow. That gave Starfield a speed figure of 78. So on those two runs both horses are similar.

When Starfield beat Toto the track was 19 fast..quite different to the above..and i got a sf for starfield then of 85.

So Ruban should beat Starfield receiving a stone..as their best runs show just 6lb between them..Ruban has an 8lb edge

Thanks for replying EC1,

Worth bearing in mind that Trimoulet has shown improved form stepped up in trip..so he might have struggled for pace behind Ruban.
Yes i had figured that out thanks EC1.
Where do you get these figures such as track was 9lb slow, track was 17lb slow etc from, please?

What i'm asking is, is this your own opinion of the going based on overall times on the day or are these figures published somewhere?

no, they are my figures Stew..i rate very AW race for overall SF and do sectionals on all tracks bar Southwell/Chelmsford..Southwell data will be sorted soon for sectional analysis ..Chelmsford too eventually

Southwell is a totally different ntity at the moment as was seen at the last meeting and today the best formlines and times are meaningless now its all dependant on horses that go on the surface when its desperately slow,90% of the form horses asren't going on it if you remember stew I used to write about this on betfair a couple of yrars ago and bigrob will remember as he used to buy the distances as few horses act on it.Looks goldmine on those distances again today 30ls,what it does do though is take you away from the front end of the market and can stsrt looking at new horses especially those that like softer ground it may not last much last longer but as lonjg as the cold weathers around backing horses at short prices on speedfigures would be throwing money away.I don't know if they went over the track before the last but marcianos clocked up a monster time compared to the rest of the races on the last two cards....

Marciano

An incredible time on a desperately slow surface, the last two meetings have been the same the slowest the tracks been all season and only a very small % of horses going on it as long as the cold weathers around then the track won't get any quicker and there will be similar results with a larger pool of horses winning and maybe newer horses that go on softer ground.I wouldn't be using these times and carryuing them over to when the track rides standard but mick Appleby has yet again got huge improvement from Marciano on debut, had run a couple of times here before not showing anything like this form, was actually 7 pound out of the handicap today and won in m28.65 an incredibly fast time considering how slow the previoous 14 races had been on this surface. The distances behind showing that very few runners are acting on it 5ls back to the second and then 6,4 1/2,3 1/4,3 1/4,4 1/2,3 1/2 so anything that prefers the track when riding this slow looks at nmassive advantage Marciano as long as track is riding like this should take some beating even with the inevitable rise..

What do we think of Telegraph in the 5.30 Wolv today? Wasn't given a race last week...Kirby up today so do they mean business?

That's the problem long term backing the evans horses at 3/1 is a waste of time, shouldv'e won the other night and was only horse you could back today in the race but you're getting very little value I won't be adding anymore evans horses on only had black dave and this one and I won't be backling black dave at the prices it keeps going off...

Bonds gift

Nice run by the mare on only 6th ever run the time of this div .62 quicker than telegraphs win and having indian affair and oak bluffs over 3 1/2 and a further 1 1/4ls behind the form looks decent for grade as indian affair had just finished infront of telegraph on previous run so it al makes sense.Bonds gift was cantering throughout but just gave the winner to much start maybe 5-6ls into straight, ashame jock had not taken it easier at finish as was my eyecatcher after 3fs but the time confirms it was good for the grade and she looks handicapped to win at least one of these and still improvement to come. She also wore first time blinkers today, she may also go on other surfaces as well although the monsieur bonds do particularly well at wolves...

Streets of new york

This was debut run for brian Ellison for streets of new York 5 pound out of handicap but showing massive improvement on previous irish form, hadn't shown anything in Ireland since winning September 2011 so another shrewd looking purchase.I don't do nh form anymore but this was a class two handicap so was competing in decent grade, both winner and runner up from this race although winner 10 looked progressive. The third local hero has since been runner up to clever cookie, that winner has yet gone on again by 8ls,the 4th runswick royal has also won again off 139 winning same class 2 streets of new York directyly behind in 5th running off 114 now off 111.
Quite interesting that Ellison has run it twice on the aw at swell actual debut run on flat bar bumper runs runner up to mondlicht of johnstons that horse could be anything and today dropping back to 7fs.He was unsurprisingly left 10ls at stsrt yet made up ground to eventually only be beaten 1 1/2ls,i havn't watched other replays of the horse but tom eaves didn't go for the whip once in the straight. It wasn't a non trier as was given a decent ride just interesting if horse goes better without whip which might be something to look out for.
Todays maiden was .14 slower than loud winning the handicap off 69(could be well handicapped on surface)about 2 1/2ls quicker than streets of new York but streets of new York carrying 12 pound more over an inadequate trip.
Streets of new yorks handicap mark is worth looking at anything around 70 I would think is a fair mark looking at todays times and already Ellison is getting improvement out of the 7yr old and the hurdle form similarly from briefly looking at that run off current mark he has a well handicapped dual purpose horse. What will be interesting is streets of new yorks trip on the flat as these distances over a mile and 7fs has held his own but will surely improve for step up in distance, sire dalakhani.Equally those two bits of hurdle form were going right handed kelso and musselburugh which maybe significant,an interesting one to follow off lowly marks even as 7yr old!!

This maybe good form for the gtrade as the first 3 look like they could be improving on the surface, the times of the earlier 5f races were interesting the older 5f claimer was a lot slower so presumably no pace on as times would mean the younger horses have runs 2o pounds better than current ratings so have scrubbed that race, but the maiden with comeuppance in rated 70 was .38 slower than the 62 rated winner of the handicap and that winner carrying 8 pound more than come uppence.Comeuppence is not worth that rating but he could've improved for first time run on surface, will take the view that he's only a 65 horse that would take the winner of the handicap nearer to a rating of 75 and that may just work out as won nicely and the drop to 5fs looks ideal,he should win again and the times today will be very interesting.
The second like the winner was also coming from what has been the worst draws all season for 5fs they were drawn 8/9,whether the draw made any difference today would be highly unlikely in favour of the highs but as mentioned using the times of the maiden then even the second rated 62 ciould still be well in like winner only second ever run kon surface. The third vale of York is only rated 56,plenty of money for stable out of form and first time on surface, again the time of the maiden winner vale of York would've been close to that time carrying more weight so if this works out then is nicely handicapped also, would look even better if dropped a pound as well to 55 would look thrown in...

Four from four now after ifittakesfoever winning again, never backed it but beautiful piece of form showing how accurate the times were if you took comeuppence as the marker on the day as I I did was rated 70 you could've placed tonights winner on 84 and he's won off 74 tonight, the ? was the surface but has made no difference..

Stroll patrol
Primrose valley
To lesser degree looking out for marks in nurserys the 4th and 5th
Some show
Aqlette

A weak looking fillies maiden at first glance but a very interesting time and with two less fashionable trainers finishing first and second this form will probably get underestimated and they should be overpriced. The winner has an rpr of 74 and the runner up only 62,yert the time of this race was a second quicker than the the other 2yr old maiden won by 74 rated speedy move and also a second quicker than the older handicap which was run at decent clip. The winner of the older handicap could be anything and could be 2stone in but taking the runner up as the marker castorienta rated 69 the fillies current marks are looking very generous.Stroll patrol currently has an rpr of 74 no reason for it go up on this form and the runner up primrose valley was beaten 2 1/2ls easily she may go up 3 pounds for this run to around 65.They look very useful for nurserys off 74 and 65 on these times, plus under unfashionable trainers Mcbride and Vaughn. The form of primrose valley with 3/2/2 will be likely be dismissed yet tonight she has shown on the clock she is improving on turf over a fast 6fs.
There should be some nice value with these two in nurserys, what will alsio be interesting will be the marks of runners in behind as although beaten 6ls 3/4/5th they have still run near the time of the other maiden winner and hamdicap so they could be on really nice marks and with the Jarvis horse solstalla given an easy race on debut in 6th as well.An insignificant looking maiden that could throw up some real value!!

Turning into one of my fav horses 62 when I put her up now going to be nearer a 100!!:D

Secret art

Secret art was given strange ride today dropped out as soon as stalls opened it was obviously not going to be put in the race stayed on inside and not even ridden or touched at finish, the gelding had gone up 4 pound from previous aw run at Kempton when second to todays third tigers tale a decent race run in 1m36.28 there was a 9 pound turnaround in the weights today as well so was entitled to run equally as well if niot better than the third of tigers tale.Looking more closely at secret art he has no form going left handed aal hos form is right handed or at ascot so his overall profile looked unlikely track was going to suit,i expect him to be switched back to Kempton can see him avoiding lingfield in future races and eve off current mark he looks reasonably well handicapped to run well at decent prices in the bigger races at Kempton in the next two months...

Caledonia laird

Chelmsford track riding a lot quicker especially at tonights meeting, this was the l;ast race on the card winner hacking up off 51 the time was interesting only .46 slower than bint dandy but the winner of the last carrying 10 pound more than the 78 rated winner they looked to go a decent clip in that small field as well perhaps to quick or maybe they were just weak runners for the grade.Even if that race was weak for the grade would still look massive improvement from the 51 rated runner,on previous form its hard to explain improvement looked thoroughly exposed perhaps he will be regular at the track and track specialist the most interesting thing will be to see future times and if this form gets franked by the winner.Tonight was the first meeting where the form made sense especially the thtree preceeding races to the last, the winner of this race will probably go up at least 10 pound even though was a terrible race so hopefully will come back to this c/d and see if he can repeat it...

Rivellino

Running theme of the week, the draw huge advantage to be drawn high all the mile 7fs and 6f races won by the high draws winners of thiose races drawn 27,29,26,33 and 22.I've mentioned a few this week that have run well from central draws that finished well and had to stay in the middle, todays were similar rivellino in the 12 draw infact lowest draw to hit the first 4 in any of the standside handicaps thios week.A few ran well up the centre in this race the professor and boomerang bob,the professor eventually switched to finish slightly closer to styands side probably finishing slightly stronger than rivellino.
Rivellinos only run 7 times on turf so now has proved himself on surface after all his aw runs where he achieved his rating, now proven at ascot will undoubtedly be returned here and although on a mark of 104 he could win one of these big handicaps over this c/d especially without a disadvantageous draw.

Very nice different class to that bunch today, one of the fastest horses ever to run at lingfield looks like more to come as well..
