Departures 2010

Sorry to hear about Bungle, UG and Shadow. Such a sad and terrible end. Sounds as though it's cast a shadow over the whole yard, horses and humans. Condolences.

Sad news about Tiger Cry too, he won me a tidy bit when he won the Grand Annual a couple of years ago.

I hope the gallant SUPER LORD in the hunters at Donny today (fell 3 out, disputing lead) is okay? The ambulance and knacker van were both seen going to him in the background (hedging their bets, I assume), but the RP just states the obvious - 'fell heavily'. He was alive when last seen, but semi-lying on the ground with his head up. Hope just winded, and fed up.

Oh, huge sorry about ANML, didn't know that had happened. Buggeration about it all. Some decent horses lost this season.

Cant see anything on the paul nicholls site. But he now has no entries for cheltenham.

he did break down badly at newbury and was only eased, not pulled up, which will not have helped. one member from the paul nicholls team made a comment on our facebook album. they did fear worst on the day, but tried for some time to save him. real shame, so young, and so much promise.

What happened to him? Last ran early this month and I can find no reference to injury, let alone worse?

It was in the calendar registrations. A very interesting document for those close to racing. Gives a list of dead horses and geldings as well as new syndicates formed and transfer of ownership. For example the ownership in Rite of Passage has changed to 65% Ronan Lambe, 35% John Climax, 10% Dermot Weld. Also, Coolmore took up half the last one as one company leases all the horses to Magnier/Tabor/Smith and each horse transfer needs to be registered.

What's the name of that company?

But we still don't know why he died since his run on 7th February. Presumably something bad at home. His last outing was well behind DUNGUIB, but he wasn't a slouch himself.

How do you access this, or is it exclusive to owners?

Interesting Cantoris, looking through that it's a shame to see that the old boy, Light On The Broom, died recently. 14 yo..last raced in October.

Yeah - think he was in California Gareth

"Black Bear Island, who won the Group 2 Dante Stakes in England in 2009 and was second in the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park last August, was euthanized on Thursday after suffering an ankle injury during a workout.

Trainer Julio Canani said the injury was too severe for the 4-year-old colt to be saved. Owned by a partnership led by former Hollywood Park chairman R.D. Hubbard, Black Bear Island was being prepared for a turf campaign this year. He had not started since finishing eighth in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby last November.

In Europe, Black Bear Island was trained by Aidan O'Brien. Aside from the win in the Dante Stakes, Black Bear Island was 10th in the English Derby and third in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot."

Poor fella. Probably would have found a place at stud somewhere in the world if he'd made it to retirement.
