Flat horses to note for the season

Trainers frustrate me sometimes as well.
I have a horse in my alerts called Starnberg and it has won its last 2 for me.
Won off 77 (10,000) went up to 85 and won (6000) and went up 12lb and runs in the Brittania off 97.
Either Hannon knows hes got a good one or hes mucked his hcap mark up.
Time will tell.
His 7lb claimer can only claim 5 now so in effect hes gone up 14lb.

I know him. I was tempted to track him after York but thought he won too well.

Lastly I don't usually go below class 4 when I review the previous week's action but I made an exception for the last at Newmarket on Thursday as that race was won by Quinault who went on to take the Jumby/Harry Three hcap two days later and was obviously ungodly well handicapped for this. Sure enough he won well (isolated far side, powering home). The main pack however was led home by Ertebat who finished (strongly after not being best away from the stalls) 2L clear of the 3rd. I hope the handicapper isn't too harsh on this formline given what Quinault did two days later.

Ertebat's form at Newmarket is now rampant after Quinault won again yesterday. Now, he has been seen out since but was very disappointing at Kempton over 7. I was a bit miffed but the excuse given was he didn't enjoy the kickback after being slowly away and trailing the field. I wasn't sure about this as he's run ok on the AW before but he was prominent in one race at Chelmsford and mid field but on the outside at Wolves so it does sort of check out. I wonder also are horses who wear blinkers maybe more likely to be bothered by kickback. Dunno.

Runs Thirsk Tuesday and the price will be interesting because yes Quinault connection but also poor run at Kempton.

CUBAN THUNDER - (Ascot, 15:05
Coventry Stakes (Group 2)

timeform
150,000 gns Profitable colt who put his experience to good use when beating a field of mostly newcomers at York last month. Will find this a lot more demanding and Stott prefers Bucanero Fuerte.

DRAMATISED - (Ascot, 15:40)
King's Stand Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series)

timeform
Decisive winner of the Queen Mary at last year's Royal meeting and improved again to see off older opposition in the Group 2 Temple at Haydock (5f, good to firm) on her reappearance 24 days ago. Will need a bigger performance again to come out on top here but no shock were she to find it.

ERTEBAT - (Thirsk, 15:30)
Download The Vickers.Bet App Handicap

timeform
Winner at Pontefract in May. 10/1, seventh of 10 in handicap at Kempton (7f) 13 days ago. Likely to be back on his game.

FLAG OF ST GEORGE - (Ascot, 15:05)
Coventry Stakes (Group 2)

timeform
U S Navy Flag colt who confirmed debut promise to win Newmarket novice last month. However, that was just an ordinary event for the track and looks up against it.

KING OF CONQUEST - (Ascot, 17:35)
Wolferton Stakes (Listed)

timeform
Lightly-raced 4-y-o who has taken his form up a level this season, landing big-field 9f handicaps in Bahrain and at Newmarket (from Saga) before battling well to edge out Francesco Clemente in listed contest at Goodwood over this trip 3 weeks ago. Seems set to go well again in bid for 5-timer.

Ertebat 7/1 at 365 when the prices came out late yesterday afternoon, into 7/2 now. He's up against a raft of exposed shithouses.

A lot more rain arrived than was forecast. Speechless Ertebat wasn't pulled, absolutely speechless. His run style, he had no chance on that ground.

And tomorrow:

ST VINCENTS GARDEN - (Ascot, 17:35)
Queen's Vase (Group 2)

timeform
Off the mark at the third attempt in maiden at Fairyhouse recently and, while this is much tougher, he shapes as if he will be well suited by the longer trip.

Bertinelli, which won the Lonon Gold Cup, goes in the King George V tomorrow (7/1) and looks certain to stay, based on his entries, but has a scabrous draw, and may well accept it,with an eye to the future.

St Vincent’s Garden finished 6th/12 today

St Vincents Garden, a close-up last of six in the Navan Listed race, had since won his maiden and again shaped like a stayer on this rise in grade, finishing well from an unpromising position. There should be plenty more to come from him.RP

Tomorrow:

OPEN TO QUESTION - (Leopardstown, 19:50)
Vintage Voyager Maiden

timeform
Promising sort. 20/1, fourth of 12 in maiden at the Curragh (10f, good) on debut 26 days ago, needing stronger gallop. Up in trip and should progress.

AL ASIFAH - (Ascot, 15:40)
Ribblesdale Stakes (Fillies' Group 2)

timeform
Frankel filly who ran out an easy winner on debut in a Haydock maiden (10f) in May and took the rise in class in her stride with an impressive success in listed company at Goodwood (9.9f) 11 days ago, hard held. Rates a most exciting prospect and big player upped to Group 2 level.

BERTINELLI - (Ascot, 15:05)
King George V Stakes (Heritage Handicap)

timeform
AW maiden winner last November and has taken his form up another notch back on turf this year, recording a smart effort to win London Gold Cup at Newbury (1¼m, good to firm) last month. Group-class performance needed under clear top weight but no surprise were he up to the task. Will stay 1½m.

BOLD ACT - (Ascot, 17:35)
Hampton Court Stakes (Group 3)

timeform
Improved again to make it 4 in a row in a valuable conditions race at Chelmsford in April. Not in the same form in Newmarket listed race next time, but resumed his progress (had been gelded) upped further in trip when only narrowly denied in London Gold Cup at Newbury. Merits consideration.

CANBERRA LEGEND - (Ascot, 17:35)
Hampton Court Stakes (Group 3)

timeform
Justified market confidence with comfortable debut win at Newcastle in February. Took the jump up in class in his stride when following up in Feilden Stakes at Newmarket in April, but disappointing on much firmer ground in Dante at York last time. Any rain would help his chances.

DANCING MAGIC - (Ascot, 17:35)
Hampton Court Stakes (Group 3)

timeform
Remains a maiden but has been highly tried, showing improved form on reappearance when 3-lengths third of 7 in Craven Stakes at Newmarket. However, not in the same form when well held in the Dante last time and hood/tongue strap now reached for. Looks to be up against it.

EXOPLANET - (Ascot, 17:35)
Hampton Court Stakes (Group 3)

timeform
Looked good prospect when scoring at Newbury on debut before finding the Autumn Stakes at Newmarket too much 3 weeks later, However, has got back on the up this season, third in the London Gold Cup also at Newbury last month. Can continue his progress to return to winning ways.

LAND LEGEND - (Ascot, 15:05)
King George V Stakes (Heritage Handicap)

timeform
Off the mark in good style upped to 1¼m for his handicap debut at Newcastle in March. Went up 11 lb for that and improved a good chunk again when second in 1½m handicap at York's Dante meeting 5 weeks ago. Likely more to come and one of 2 solid contenders for his owner/trainer.

MONTASSIB - (Ascot, 18:10)
Buckingham Palace Stakes (Handicap)

timeform
Low-mileage 5-y-o who was progressive last year (fifth in this race from 5 lb lower) and better than ever when justifying strong support at Newmarket a month ago. Up 4 lb but he's in expert hands and his limit may not have been reached.

MR MISTOFFELEES - (Ascot, 15:05)
King George V Stakes (Heritage Handicap)

timeform
Siyouni colt who progressed nicely last year, culminating with 1m Kempton novice win in December. Has advanced his form in defeat this term, finishing a good 2½ lengths seventh of 14 to Bertinelli in London Gold Cup at Newbury (1¼m, good to firm) last time.

THEORYOFEVERYTHING - (Ascot, 17:00)
Britannia Stakes (Heritage Handicap) (Str)

timeform
Bred in the purple and created a taking impression when making a winning debut in a Doncaster novice (7f, heavy) in April. Yet to build on that but well regarded and not one to give up on after a short break.

ISLAND STAR - (Newmarket, 19:05)
Visit Racingtv.com Handicap

timeform
Much improved for his current yard this season, landing 1m Kempton maiden and strong-finishing third in 1m handicap at Sandown 29 days ago. Has more to offer and rates a big player.

KERDOS - (Ascot, 18:10)
Palace Of Holyrood House Stakes (Handicap)

timeform
Landed a Haydock maiden and Windsor minor event last autumn and made pleasing return when close second in handicap at Lingfield. Back on track albeit unsuited by the drop in trip when third at Chester (5.1f, heavy) last time so probably best to look elsewhere.

MAMMAS GIRL - (Ascot, 16:20)
Coronation Stakes (Fillies' Group 1) (British Champions Series) (Rnd)

timeform
Raced solely at Newmarket, winning her first 2 starts, showing an excellent turn of foot and finishing strongly in the Nell Gwyn on her return. Well held in the 1000 Guineas though and needs to leave that firmly behind.

NOBLE STYLE - (Ascot, 15:05)
Commonwealth Cup (Group 1) (British Champions Series)

timeform
Unbeaten in 3 outings as a juvenile, including the Gimcrack, and not disgraced in the 2000 Guineas on return, failing to fully see it out having pulled hard. Failed to land the odds back sprinting at Newbury but this stiff 6f looks ideal for him and cheekpieces may sharpen him up a touch.

REMARQUEE - (Ascot, 16:20)
Coronation Stakes (Fillies' Group 1) (British Champions Series) (Rnd)

timeform
Won her first 2 starts, edging ahead late in the Fred Darling on her return. Still looked green when well held in the 1000 Guineas next time and can do better at this trip as she gets to grips with her job.

SHAHBAZ - (Redcar, 15:30)
Woodsmith Construction Straight Mile Handicap

timeform
Ran well after 6 months off when third at Newmarket in April. No extra only late on when sixth of 7 in handicap at Ascot (10f, soft, 3/1) 41 days ago. Can give his running again back down in trip.

Managed to get a little 7/2 about Island Star last night but price has gone now. I have him in doubles with Artistic Star and Continuous in the King Teddy. Not sure about the mile for Shahbaz but he's a bet at around 5s or 6s.

Moracana did not have an easy passage but was still a fast finishing 5th. Next time!

Me too. But I was so busy watching it I failed to spot one of my other two had won...and I had got my stake wrong and put on treble the amount.....

You can take Island Star off this as well. Three losses and you're out. Varian is some kind of wanker. The one I oppose wins and the one I'm with runs shite.

ISLAND STAR 3rd/7 - https://www.sportinglife.com/racing/results/2023-06-23/newmarket/744204/visit-racingtvcom-handicap

Island Star was backed into favouritism over the slightly longer trip but he didn't see it out as well as the principals on this occasion.RP

KERDOS 2nd (11/1) - https://www.sportinglife.com/racing/replays/results/palace-of-holyroodhouse-handicap

Kerdos travelled smoothly to the lead, getting a good tow into contention, but drifted to his left and was collared in the latter stages. He's still lightly raced and this was only his second run over the minimum trip.RP

MAMMAS GIRL 6th/6 - https://www.sportinglife.com/racing/replays/results/coronation-stakes

REMARQUEE 2nd (25/1) - https://www.sportinglife.com/racing/replays/results/coronation-stakes

Remarquee, well beaten in the 1,000 Guineas, having earlier won the Fred Darling on reappearance, showed her true worth this time, looking a shade unfortunate as she was squeezed up just as she was getting a little tapped for toe. She rallied well for second and could come into her own in the autumn, back on slower ground and possibly upped to 1m2f, but the Falmouth may be next.RP

ANCIENT WISDOM - (Newmarket, 13:32)
Join Racing TV Now British EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race)

timeform
Foaled April 12. €2,000,000 yearling, Dubawi colt. Brother to useful 2-y-o 8.6f winner Intricacy. Highly promising sort. Won 7-runner minor event (6/5) at Haydock (7f, good to firm) on debut 15 days ago, impressively. Sets a solid standard and open to lots of improvement.

COVEY - (Ascot, 15:05)
Jersey Stakes (Group 3)

timeform
Son of Frankel who is improving in leaps and bounds, building on pair of maiden/novice wins with a commanding victory (well backed) on handicap debut at Haydock (1m) 4 weeks ago, shaken up around 2f out and in command after. Looks a serious player up in class with prospect of more to come.

FREE WIND - (Ascot, 16:20)
Hardwicke Stakes (Group 2)

timeform
Very talented mare who made it 6 wins in her last 7 starts when seeing off Wednesday's Duke of Cambridge winner Rogue Millennium in the Group 2 Middleton on her 1¼m York reappearance. Return to further will suit and she could take a bit of stopping with further progress on the cards.

HAVE SECRET - (Ascot, 17:35)
Golden Gates Stakes (Handicap)

timeform
Improved with each start last year, winning nurseries over 7f at Haydock (good to firm) and 1¼m at Nottingham (heavy). Cracking reappearance run when fourth of 14 to Bertinelli in very strong London Gold Cup at Newbury last month. Enters calculations.

KHANJAR - (Ascot, 17:00)
Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap)

timeform
Dual 6f scorer in 2022 who got back on the up when second in handicap at Hamilton (6f) 16 days ago, especially as he wasn't ideally placed after a tardy start. Bold showing is on the cards if first-time cheekpieces eke out some improvement.

LIKE A TIGER - (Ascot, 17:35)
Golden Gates Stakes (Handicap)

timeform
AW novice winner in November and followed up in a 1¼m Newmarket handicap on his reappearance in April. Listed company proved a step too far a fortnight later but he retains potential with his sights lowered. starstarstar

LION OF WAR - (Ascot, 17:35)
Golden Gates Stakes (Handicap)

timeform
Firmly back on the up with a 1¼-length defeat of the reopposing Coco Jack at Musselburgh (9f, good to firm) 3 weeks ago. Will be at least as effective back at 1¼m and Johnston handicappers can just keep on improving when they get in the groove.

ORAZIO - (Ascot, 17:00)
Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap)

timeform
Low-mileage 4-y-o who comes here firmly on the up, scoring impressively at Newmarket in April and then over C&D following month. Still looks ahead of his mark despite being hiked up another 9 lb. Big shout.

MAKAROVA - (Ayr, 15:34)
Unite The Union Thanking Our Members EBF Land O'Burns Fillies' Stakes (Fillies' And Mares' Listed)
