It's not a matter for opinion - it's black and white - can you back this up with facts?

Just what I've noted over the last few years, foreign raiders (esp UK and Irish) tend to get putrid draws in their Guineas. Keeping the cash/prestige at home.

Since 2000, there have been 13 French Guineas, and 5 were won from non-French trainers.

Hence, I'm still unsure where your point comes from unless you have a typically British attitude towards the French.

Looking at the Poulains and the Pouliches for the last 4 season, 25 British and Irish runners, 9 are drawn in the inner stalls, 8 in the middle stalls and 8 in the outer stalls. In 2010 there was a British runner in stall 1 in both races ( Lady of the Desert and Dick Turpin). I don't think that you're right on this one trefflich.

...shame.:( But at least we can say the French don't wash with a fair degree of confidence.;)

No, typical observer of British attitude towards the French - what does my nationality have to do with it?
:lol::lol:

Following Dabirsim's defeat in the French 2,000 Guineas, Christophe Soumillon has ended his association with the colt, who was unbeaten last year. The jockey told paris-turf.com that "we can not find the right chemistry together." ( Racing Post)

As good an acknowledgement as we'll get that he fecked up.

A really interesting day's racing at Longchamp. I think Golden Lilac and maybe 1/2 others will give Cirrus a race on this ground and trip, and the Prix St Alary usually throws up one of the best French fillies.

Good call Hamm, I followed you in on golden lilac. English markets were lopsided so the prices were generous. The mare won well considering how free she was.

This was a proper grp.1 race not like that Ballydoyle benefit they staged at the Curragh. How that race retains its grp.1 status is beyond me

As long as good horses keep winning it and keep its race rating up, it'll stay a Group 1. Its only a Ballydoyle benefit because so many don't have the balls to take them on - e.g. Godolphin would rather have Monterosso run with a penalty in a Group 3 than take a shot at a Group 1 (and he beat So You Think easily lto!).

There's no doubt in my mind that the Tattersals Gold Cup should be downgraded to a Group 3.

There simply hasn't been enough support over the years to warrant the title of a Group 1 whereby you're carrying the reputation that the race is producing the toughest competition during that time of the year which to be quite frank doesn't appear to be happening.

The Tattersals Gold Cup isn't too far from Dubai during the calender year and could quite easily be a target for placed performers if they deemed the race in Ireland worthy of its status but there again we meet a stumbling block because it isn't.

A Group 1 should carry heritage in name, quality in the racehorse, promote winning performances as recognizable achievements and entice demand from across the globe which this race simply doesn't meet any of the criteria.

The sooner this race is downgraded the better.

That list of winners is better than for quite a few other Group 1 races, even if they didn't beat anything in winning it.
