Frost vs Dunne

I wasn't sure what it would be but I think its harsh. Seems like the 'prosecution' were hoping for it to be more lenient as well.

Almost certainly some element of deterrent in that sentence, on top of whatever the 'punishment' is for the individual concerned.

I guess that they had to come down on the hard side, which will earn them a lot less flak than appearing to be soft. Perhaps they will look to reduce it a bit on appeal, having made the point. Poor old Bryony will be blamed.

He'll be 44 when the suspension, as it stands, ends so it could be the end of his career as a jockey.

With a strike-rate amounting to around 8% over the last Gawd-knows how many years, his career has barely been noticeable anyway. I hope this is of some consolation to him.

I've never rated him as a jockey. Much more likely to be on a non-trier than a trier. Probably has carved himself out a decent living from schooling in public, in my opinion.

It won't bother me in the slightest if I never see his name next to a horse again.

No doubt he'll end up with some other job in the game anyway, as so many of them do. Somehow, though, I can't see it as a pundit on ITV...

I’m surprised the police are not investigating, given the serious nature of the threats. It does seem a harsh sentence but only in comparison with Gordon Elliott’s six-month ban for doing something equally(?) as bad. Gay Kellaway has said some good things ie, the culture of the weighing room is not there to be protected. I wonder if more female jockeys will come forward now, with their own stories of how they have been bullied and/ or threatened.

I actually interviewed Bryony after she won a Point to Point at Cothelstone. Prior to this I was always a bit suspicious of the Frost team as she seemed to be on ex-NH horses of her father’s which used to pop round at the back not doing much. I convinced myself that they were plotting! But it was just a case of a father giving his young and at the time inexperienced daughter, some safe conveyances to teach her the ropes. And when the wins came, you could just see the genuine thrill it gave them. She’s an interviewers dream because the words just flow, a combination of grateful thanks to the owners, trainer and most of all the horse. It is this that sets her apart. Because people appreciate that she is quick to remind those listening that she owes her good fortune to an animal who has willingly transported her around a course of obstacles and then battled hard for her. Non racing people get that. And that really is a positive in this day and age when we are up against the bunny hugger brigade who think we should let all animals run free and procreate as they wish instead of cruelly forcing them to race.

Those in the weighing room who are at odds with this decision need to take a long hard look at themselves. I suspect they will be closely watched in the future.

100%

In their own way, her post-race interviews are just as compulsive listening as Gosden's or Mullins's.

To judge from the reception Bryony has been getting on racecourses up and down the country it’s clear where the racing public stand in this sad and sorry tale. I do hope that those in the Weighing Room come to understand and place the blame for it all precisely where it belongs - on the shoulders of Robbie Dunne. That’s not too much to ask is it?

Not harsh at all. He was found guilty of four of the seven counts wasn’t he? That’s 4.5 months for each one. You’d get a darn site more than that for exposing yourself in public and intimidating someone if it was brought as a police charge. A chunk of it he wouldn’t be riding anyway - and he can still work, just not ride in races.

Hopefully this will mean that racecourses get their **** sorted so that the ladies don’t have to go in the mens changing rooms - and maybe, just maybe the attitude of men involved with racing will be dragged out of the dark ages. As Kirsty said - most of you won’t ever know how intimidating it can be as a woman these days - let alone back even when I started in racing ( 1990) which hadn’t come on any from when she did in the 80s.

There’s a massive difference between banter and not - ignorance isn’t an excuse. And I’m not for one minute expecting the guys to all go “ladies first” in races, nor would anyone else - it’s a tough sport and that won’t change. But nobody should be too intimidated to go to work - nobody.

I'm not so sure Len. A subsection of female jockeys have issued a statement which, if I interpret it correctly, says that BF is talking shoite and in no way campaigning on their behalf.

I think PJA will spilt into the official lady jockeys (stickies) and the provisional lady jockeys.

I think it’s difficult. As they rightly say in that write up - you can’t say you’ve heard something if you haven’t. Anyone who has contributed to the investigation has to live with their conscience - how much they’ve told the truth ( and their reasons for doing so) is down to them.

And as I said earlier, bullies tend to be sly and covert when they attack their target. Just because none of them witnessed it, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. And the fence steward was a pretty damming witness.

I was bullied in one yard and no-one believed me because he was a cocky, bantering lad who used to entertain the others (sound familiar?) But he was really unpleasant to me (I was assistant trainer therefore his superior which really did not sit well with him) and refused to do any work when it was my weekend to run the yard. He constantly undermined me and stirred up trouble. Eventually I was away a week and he was put on the little 2yo filly I usually rode. He beat seven bells of sh*t out of her....why? Because she was my ride. Not because she was difficult. But because she was my ride. She was so traumatised by that beating, you could never carry a stick on her and when she eventually made the track, she bolted and never ran again.

(I’ve got lots of these stories btw. It comes from being a female standing up for herself in a male dominated environment!)

And that press statement by the PJA is really badly written! Appalling English in places and so I presume it’s just a mish mash of comments made by various lady riders? Is anyone able to copy and paste those articles on the RP that are premium? The Lucy Wadham one? And I think there was another? Didn’t see what Gay Kelleway said but I wouldn’t be hanging on her last word......

No - but you also can’t say you heard things going on if you didn’t.

I’m curious what Peter Scudamore said - I’m not friends with him on Facebook so I didn’t see it. But that’s pure nosiness on my part!

Yes I know but I’m not sure why they needed to comment. I have just read the piece by Tom Kerr, the RP editor, which sums it all up pretty well. I’m sure Bryony is in for a tough time for a while but if Nicholls stands by her which it looks like he has, then she’ll pull through it. When you think of all the publicity that was given in the aftermath of Caroline Flacks suicide last year.....the #BeKind? Movement? You would think that people should all be a bit nicer to each other.

No I’m not friends with PS but I think he’s pretty easy to friend so just do it!......and then let us know what he said!

I get the impression that it’s the girls who were quoted as not being bothered by anything they’d had seen/heard - but they hadn’t heard anything between the two of them ( or something like that) who knows though. I wasn’t surprised to see a couple of the names bandied about - and I wasn’t surprised to see them backing the boys either.

Inevitably he will appeal - will be interesting to see how that goes. A lot of my friends have already come out saying how ridiculous the 18 months is yada yada - it’s very sad how many people just don’t get it and refuse to try.

If Robbie Dunne is allowed to carry on riding until his appeal is heard it will be interesting to see who uses him.
Venitia maybe.
