Grand National 2020

Surely behind closed doors?

From the RP

British racing will take place behind closed doors next week after the BHA said on Sunday evening that it was preparing for such an eventuality “later in the week”.

While no specific dates have been given by the regulator, the measures are expected to last “initially until the end of March” as conversations take place about how best to operate the sport in light of the coronavirus pandemic that is shutting down sport and countries across the globe.

Gutted. Same as when Istabraq was going for his fourth Champion Hurdle with the Foot and Mouth and by the following year, he wasn’t right. Tiger Roll misses out on that chance too.

Spent a fortune on tickets etc, hopefully be able to claim the money back. Was mine and Mrs first night away since having twins, to say I’m/we’re gutted is an understatement.

Got to feel for Tiger Roll as well, absolutely no chance next year.

Probably the right thing to do however though.

During World War 1 (and no Slim, I wasn't there) as the War Office had commissioned Aintree racecourse for their own uses the Grand National was run at Gatwick. It occurs to me that as there's bugger all going on there at the moment they could run it there again.

Very good

I only ever asked what side you were on...

Me too. The dam of my mare was due to run at Cheltenham that year as well, following season she had rubbish year and was retired.

The actual Grand National may be off but the Virtual Grand National, featuring 40 runners most likely to have made this year's race, will be broadcast on ITV at 5PM on Saturday 4th April.
ITV use the latest CGI technology and algorithms and were ready to go ahead as a forerunner to the big race but now we want to cheer the nation up and ask the computer if history could have been made.

The special Virtual Grand National broadcast will also pit Aintree legends Red Rum and Tiger Roll against each other, and 38 others, in a Race of Champions.

Hopefully you can bet on this.

I’d be all in on Hedgehunter should he line up in the legends. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves as an Aintree legend. Would have won 2 had it not been a shoddy ride in the 2004 Nash. Ruby then showed how to ride him in the 2005 Nash when he cruised home.

And yes, he’d have beat Clan Royal that year.

Hedgehunter would beat them all, in my opinion. Though for these CGI purposes they’d have Red Rum winning a neck to Tiger Roll.

The lack of racing is infuriating me. I should be going through Aintree runners right now, festival that’s always served me well.

Is this an early Aprils Fools Day gag?

Slim can I watch this with a betting company online if I have a bet placed on the event? Bet 365 for example?

Yes. 365, Betfair Sportsbook etc will stream it. If you have an android phone you could download Mobdro and watch the racing channels.
